@@badnewsbruner Because historically Microsoft has invested heavily in making sure DirectX has solid hardware support, on top of providing much better developer resources than what was available for other graphics APIs. Vulkan is still quite new. Also currently the only console with 1st class support for Vulkan is the Nintendo Switch. Xbox is DirectX and PS4 has its own proprietary API.

@@raz9701 Rewatch from 1:29. DX12u will give huge improvements in draw call efficiency. At the moment the CPU uses huge amounts of its power to send draw calls to a GPU. This CPU side work will be much more efficient in DX12u. It's exactly, what ArmA needs.

@@GordonWeedman Nvidea ray tracing uses tensor cores so of course its mainly for 20 series, most of these features are likely to make heavy use of tensor cores too, and weve seen how well pascal cards ray trace with work arounds (not very)
I remember hearing something like that when Direct X 12 was supposed to come out. Everyone was saying how it will make a huge differene and games will use your GPU way more effectively and when it came out, there was zero difference except it usually brought problems lol.
Well, most games are still built on dx11 because of older gpus, so devs dont want to cut off that playerbase. Most games would probably run better if they would ONLY support dx12
It would be awesome if you could use an eye tracker to make variable detail even more efficient. This way the GPU wouldn't have to guess the detail level each section needs to be since it can use real time data for that. Perhaps we could even look at the mechanics behind sight (like specialization of the eye cones) to increase efficiency even further :-)
The same thing happened with dx12. Promises of 40% improvements in framerate were made but the reality was never like that, in fact performance ended up worse in some cases. It's also up to developers to use those features and optimize their code. Unfortunately, very few devs actually optimize. This is cool in practice but expect nothing out of it.

Raytracing has been widely supported on every CPU and GPU of the past decade. The distinction here is that REAL TIME raytracing is only widely supported on 20 series cards. (Ignoring partial support for 10 series)
Yes. RayTracing is off the table but the other features you will get. However, pretty much all these features already exist in Nvidia specific code paths. dx12u just standardizes them officially.

i think hardware wise we peaked in these late 6 years, we only see an improvement when the optimization is will done otherwise throwing high frequency and cuda cores all over the place will not give us so much visuals like it used to be in the 00s, also the prices are going insanely high which make no sense for the main public. software tweaking is the way to go until another technological breakthrough will be available (more likely stadia gaming)
theres still plenty of hardware improvements to gained. Most importantly, increasing fab yields on large dies. This would make them cheaper to produce and bring better GPU/CPU performance to the mid range. really high frequency memory suffers with low yields too. Speaking of memory, better memory controllers that support 5000mhz+ speeds would increase ipc and make ultra 1080p/1440p gaming possible on an apu. Theres still plenty of areas to improve on with current hardware.

I have a feeling both are going to have a hard time meeting demand this go round even if the price point is worse then it was this past gen just because of supply issues which will mean mining era prices 😑

This is a Microsoft feature they're building into DirectX itself. It's not a hardware-specific feature. So it'll be on both the low-end NV GPUs as well as high-end, not to mention AMD and even Intel. It's all up to the software programmers to take advantage of those features though.
Variable Rate Shading is only good for VR, because you turn your head to look at stuff. But if it's on a Monitor, you are free to look at everything at the same time, not just at the crosshair's location(middle of the screen).
They should release the stored or the render of detail or better yet the entire graphics drawing once it passes off outside the peripheral of your screen.
@@RodOverwatch ray tracing works on gtx 10 series and also runs like poop, but the old lighting methods work as intended nvidia is just pushing new gimmics to make noob pc gamers to go and buy RTX 20 and soon 30 series, since the gpu incremental benefits are minimal to non existants for 1080p they are now focusing on something unnecesary instead of achieving 140fps 4k on a single card or something like that
Yep, preview dev Drivers are out. Though you need Win10 v.2004 which has not been rolled out to every machine yet, so you might need to get insider builds. Though I suppose big dev companies, especially those backed by publishers, have easier/safer access to it.
Most game companies don't make their own engine. The game engine must implement direct X12 Ultimate features in the engine that then can be implemented from game developers.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I assume Mesh Shading is suppose to be a more automatic procces. Where in the past Devs had to individual make low poly versions of each object and program at what point which version of said objects kicks in. Now the processor itself creates individual "low" poly versions of objects on the fly by interpreting the original shape of the base object. So now devs only have to feel a scene with one version of an object instead of having to create 2,3 or even 8 versions of said object?
It's called "we gotta buy into the algorithm so our video doesn't get buried in garbage". There are people whose literal job is figuring out the best title structure to put in YT videos to both appease the Algorythm God's as well as catch viewer attention.

@@UrbanaticLemonade Seriously, inform yourself about the features that are incorporated with DX12Ultimate before posting. Every DX12 Ultimate feature needs hardware support to run , Turing is a significantly newer architecture than Pascal and has the hardware features to run them properly. RDNA1 unfortunately doesn't have the hardware required for the DX12U featureset, but AMD already announced DX12 Ultimate support for their next cards based on RDNA2.

I don't wanna be "that guy" but the graphic at 2:33 - 2:44 shows objects closer to you with LOD 8 and 9 while the object further away at 2:33 was shown as LOD6. This isn't correct. Objects closer to you have LOD0 and LOD1 and so on. The further the object is, the higher the LOD number is, not the other way around as shown in this graphic. I'm not complaining though, just wanted to point this out! Thank you for the time and effort you put into making these videos :)
Eye tracking would make any new grafic card obsolete. Only a small part your actually looking at of the scene will be needed to be rendered in high quality the rest can be rendered in 480x 320 pixels with no ray tracing, tantalizing or whatever.. .The performance would be enough for 8k VR already. Why it isnt on the market? What do you think?

what microsoft amd and nvidia should propably do for DX 12 ULTIMATE is make it posible to have an entire secondary gpu do only ray tracing if its configued in sli or crosfire freeing up your main gpu
Sampler Feedback also allows for much more efficient texture streaming, loading only what's really needed into VRAM, increasing effective VRAM drastically. So even 6-8 GB cards will be enough for next generation games.

Ok let me get this correctly about coprocessors : CPU’s can be subdivided into “Speed” & “Efficiency” versions but essentially the “Brain” :: GPU is graphics whereby a second type of cores can be used for Lighting effects :: 3rd would be Audio though simple enough for CPU or GPU to process :: 4th would be Physics (where?) :: 5th would naturally be Security (Finger, Face, Key, encrypt, decrypt) :: 6th would be AI Algorithm coprocessor chipset. My question is this: “What happened to the Physics coprocessor?” Air, water, space, ice, dirt, concrete, asphalt, sand all act/look/reflect differently as driving, flying, boating, rocketry games will attest to.
