I don’t know what everybody else is seeing. This whole game is a huge disappointment. The graphics are a little better. 8:26 "You can adjust the residential taxes by education level" TAX THE STUPID!!!!
@franimus662
@franimus662 Год назад
This has to be some sort of simplification of taxing by income level, because in game income levels are closely tied to education (which itself has many outliers). Like if a highly educated person is working a job for an uneducated person, in game they still get hit with the higher tax rate even though they aren't making much money, so they are basically getting screwed over. Or you could imagine the higher tax rate simulates them getting screwed over by student loans, depending which country you live in....
@SuperCountrycityboy

I would be curious about a construction industry that your city can use to build things. It would function by initially importing materials but then eventually sourcing them from your city's different industries. One potential buff would be reduced costs for new buildings.
@nahuelma97
@nahuelma97 Год назад
I see potential in it, but at the same time, you're not gonna be constantly building new stuff. Or at least that's not my experience. Like, the benefit of lower building costs is only for the player, as the citizens don't have any income or expenses, as far as I understand. I think that alone makes it not worthwhile, to develop at least
@jamesr6268
@jamesr6268 Год назад
Check out workers and resources for that level of complexity. If you play in realistic mode everything has to be imported from the border until you can produce it yourself including foreign workers to build the buildings.
@Eric_In_SF
@Eric_In_SF Год назад
I could see them doing that since it’s such a minor detail that they like to focus on instead of huge things like citizens and organizations owning property and Real Estate. How the hell do you overlook the single number one most driving factor in any city? Real Estate is everything especially when you’re playing a game it’s all about developing land. Not to mention a stupid square, lots and unrealistic maps This game is dumb. They did nothing to revolutionize, and they basically just made an updated version one an integrated out, the communities, most popular add-ons to steal that money from those developers who were getting Patreon money.

@franimus662 Год назад
I think cement is a general city / citizen need, sort of modeling the construction industry.
@Acejhm1
@Acejhm1 Год назад
@Eric_In_SF Pretty much everything about this game is revolutionary. Property and real estate wouldn't factor into a city building game anyways. I really, really want SC2 to be able to implement additional municipal payments. In my country, there are both federal social benefits, as well as regional and municipal ones, and there are also municipal co-financing programs for federal subsidy programs. I really want to see programs in CS2 that can be configured by the city additionally. For example, to make a separate sity-campus with all the appropriate infrastructure, but to introduce a "Mandatory Student Allowance" within this city, which would increase the standard of living for students (which I am, and which is interpreted as one of my personal desires of a social Democrat). It would also be cool to see policies through which unemployment benefits could be additionally paid by the city (municipal surcharge). This is also practiced in my country, but only in the largest cities. If such policies can see the light, then I will be just delighted that you, the developers, will delve SO MUCH into social policies, which, as for me, were just a conditionality in CS1. If you directly create an opportunity to create and regulate municipal social programs (free medicine, education, educational grants and/or vouchers, etc. programs of district taxation reduction for certain types of enterprises or goods, programs of municipal subsidization of production, and maybe even the creation of free economic zones). If you implement this even with the help of DLC, then there will be no price for your game! Such a deepening in economics could make it literally a masterpiece!!! (at least for me), and, to some extent, your game could come off as a really good guide for a novice mayor xD In general, I'm delighted with what was presented in this diary and I'm madly looking forward to the future. I have already pre-ordered and am desperately trying to scrape money for a new PC, purely for the sake of this game. Thank you very much for starting to work on CS2 so deeply, because, honestly, I am delighted with how much in the future you can delve into various processes of municipal economic regulation (especially since I am an economist by education, and this game will be better for me than Victoria 3) Thank you for your work! Good luck to you!

8:26 Adjusting residential tax by education level over income level is weird. I can only assume the game simulation follows and then simplifies the concept that higher education equals higher paying job.
@mephInc
@mephInc Год назад
Which is a large assumption and somewhat untrue depending on location. I make significantly more than most college "educated" in my area as there's not a whole lot of jobs that fit. A job in the trades saves huge on college and generally pays quite well along with being far more stable than tech jobs.
@joeblow5214
@joeblow5214 Год назад
@@mephInc 2 years in a trade school I can make over 100k a year where a shlub who went to college for 4 years has a mountain of debt and is competing with not only with college grads from here, but with cheaper H1B grads from SEA and MENA. The college grads unless they secure a job out of the gate and most don't will be stuck competing with low end jobs and the colleges are lying about post-grad job placement rates. The trade jobs are nice too because they do exist outside expensive urban areas where a lot of the high paying tech jobs are currently tethered to them out side specific professions.

Overall great! "Complex but not complicated" seems to be the vision - and that's best. Underlying economy systems can be highly complex, without micromanagement, if well designed! Only point I am disappointed in: It seems the "real population density" mods were not fully incorporated. Big office buildings with only 100-odd workers inside? That's still not enough, unless there are multiple companies per building. It will still force players to create unrealistically large office/inner city districts to service even tiny residential areas, leading to unintuitive city design.

Feels a bit backward that the best outcome for a company is to only deliver products to the city and not exporting. Very few cities in the world can sustain a big business by themselves. Shouldn't the option to have a large business thrive thanks to the available workforce and education, while almost all of the production is bound for the world, be an interesting part of the gameplay?
@mephInc
@mephInc Год назад
I was thinking the same thing. Exporting goods is what makes a county flourish. If you don't export, you remain at a net zero. Add in importing and you're losing gdp.
@timo99nl

@@mephInc it's "bad" in the sense that it will provide you with less income compared to serving the local market. Of course it's still good. I think in this game you will be able to create cities with more workers than jobs and vice versa cause cims are able to travel to neighbouring cities for work. I think they just explained it wrong.

@Narangarath
@Narangarath Год назад
I mean... Now that there is homelessness, if demolishing their house means they don't have anywhere to move into (no vacant housing or too expensive) and they can't afford to move out of the city, I would expect them to become homeless just like IRL. The devs have been at least hinting at (not sure if it's been said explicitly) some kind of welfare system that, if provided, I suspect will be strongly in play in those cases. What I'm really curious about is whether or not winter temperatures will result in dead homeless people littering my parks. Since, you know, we aren't getting the tropics to play in.

I believe it's going to be a great game but there's still no point ordering it before it releases, it's not like it's going to be out of stock and the whole argument against pre ordering is that it gives companies the expectation that they can release unfinished buggy games if they have already hit the sales targets

Looks good! It's missing CS1 DLC stuff of course, that was to be expected, but it's better than base CS1. One thing I'd really like changed though is how outside connections look. In CS1 we just see roads/train tracks/ships lanes extending into the distance away from the player view and it makes them look natural and organic. In this showcase, those cars just disappeared into outside connections and makes the game feel super arcadey and gamey.
