ITS so easy to use IT seperating frequencies and shaping Sounds that they get a specific Atmosphäre and Image You can Pan IT I didnt scratched the overground of IT because im Not a Pro or master But ITS straight Logic 😂😂😂 Just the notch is Not This good so you cant Control the bell AS well AS with for example with tdr Nova what i saw But i think i Just didnt found Out how ITS done with the Kirchhoff 😂😂
Man thx a Lot You explained All the Things i want to know about paning EQ This Video is my reference to make me notice what i can do with Just one Plugin Im using This EQ on all my Instruments and Sounds
It seems like they combined the quality of DMG Equilibrium with the MS capabilities of TDR SlickEQ Mastering Edition with the interface and ease of use of Pro-Q 3, with the analog curves available in Equilibrium and MAAT thEQblue and other mastering EQ plugins and then some, and added an even better dynamic section than that of Pro-Q 3 or TDR Nova GE, and then came up with a mixed phase algorithm just because. Hats off to the guys at Three-Body Technology because this product really stands out in the current market and the price is not crazy compared to other top of the line EQs.
The only thing that confuses me is that the company they mainly make virtual Chinese instruments and some saturation and basic EQs. Then they suddenly create the best digital EQ in the world? No doubt they've done some great work, but how did this small virtual instrument company in China leap over FabFilter, DMG, Weiss and others so far? Maybe they just lucked out by hiring a genius audio software engineer. Or were FF and others taking too long to develop updated versions e.g. Pro-Q 4, which I bet is gonna have most of Kirchhoff EQ features!
I´m afradi Kirchoff has been quite of an ultra hyped product. After a few months, I have come back to ProQ3, especially for the workflow. None of the supposedly advanced techniques are helpful for me on a daily basis, and those "vintage modeled curves"... ok they are a joke. You can recreate them with any standard curve in a second, and they don´t make a diffference. There´s no modelling, I mean, recreation of the original hardware or circuitery, and the "curves" only are the slopes in boost/attenuation, in terms of db/octave, nothing special which will give your mixes any kind of character or flavor. For me, it´s a hyped product, 99% the same concept (even in color scheme!!) to Pro Q3, and I regret having spent my money in it.
I still prefer the Fabfilter Pro-Q3 because it's still more comfortable for me. Yes, it has fewer functions, but the workflow is maximally optimized and simplified - years of development, after all. Kirchhoff EQ is more functional, no doubt, but less convenient to use. In addition, although there are many curves that emulate analog equalizers, they are just curves, without saturation. Plus, these curves are not yet very convenient to include. Now, if there was analog saturation to analog curves - then it would be top!
Ok. Where to start. I have it. It good on paper and blah blah. When it comes to usability it not anywhere near FF. It very awkward to use, with so many menus and settings and click to make to get somewhere. Why don’t they set it up for most usability and hide all other shit under the hood. Anyway. Tried to use it, used for a month a so and after 10000 times I said “fuck this let me use proQ” never opened again. Audios!
There are enough "emulations". Not everything has to sound "analog". To be honest 99% of mix engineers would not even be able to tell the difference. At least with plugins made within the last 10 yrs
That mixed phased algorithm moves very similar to the surfer eq but with phase this just put everybody on major notice I might not need certain compressors anymore as I try to fix issues with eq alone that dynamic section is ridiculous hats off to three body and to you as well for always sharing the right information and not misleading people never seen one bad vid from you at all learned a lot as well thanks
If it had the features of Split EQ where you can EQ separately the transient and the tail, it would be the king of the king of EQs. Hopefully Fabfilter will get new ideas from this one and from Split EQ when they will release Pro Q4
@@everybodyhasoul5438 Heard any rumours about when Pro Q 4 might come out? I would like to upgrade from the Isotope dynamic EQ and I'm tempted by this but may be better holding off until pro Q 4
It's what I use always, I downloaded the Kirchhoff-EQ and it doesn't feel that powerful compared to MAutoDynamicEq, the Dynamic eq is better on the Melda EQ hands down and if you need more you can create your own experiment using multi parameters and Lfo 🤘🏻
Thanks, David, for the great run down. For the Vintage emulations, do you think the filter shapes/characteristics alone are enough to capture the feeling of the original hardware, considering that this plugin probably isn't also emulating the "coloring" (e.g. any saturation, etc.) of the original hardware circuits? Or am I overthinking this?
@@mixbustv Thanks for the great video. Quick question. Do you know whether they will add the specific colors of the vintage hardware models as well at some point?
Now a couple months later I sprang for this Kirchhoff and the Split EQ (on sale of course) , this should have me and whomever else pretty covered for fixing problems and getting nerdy surgical ,very cool gear and it's lite weight and easy to install ! kidding.
great video as always ... let's share a thought full of compassion for that rapper who listen to his track mixed with better and better tools each months ahahah
Mind blowing ! Till now I had to use two seperate equalizers to be able to use Dynamic EQ functions properly as well as normal Mid Side Processing and everything... Thanks for the very well done and precise walkthrough video
I was offended by the title until i watched the whole video. they should give you some sponsorship after this GREAT video. BTW! I make like a couple of comments on youtube each year, and this one got the comment of the year! 😂😂😂
Thank you so much for this video. I own also other EQ´s, and they have there use. But after seeing this video I decided to go for it. And yesterday evening I already had this wow moment, how much easier this eq can make your life. I consider myself very much a noob, still have a lot to learn, thank you for sharing your professional, to the point, as it is, knowledge! I am now working on my first serious project, and this is so much what we need as home producers. I am in it for the love of making music, and it´s so difficult often in the forest of internet to hear a clear voice....
Turning all our favourite desk eq’s to Dynamik is a well thought out move, would be interesting to see if the eq “values” actually match the original eq’s which in my experience e and g the number being shown on the board had nothing to do with what was actually happening, especially with the hi pass
Expect an update soon on Q3 lol Attack and release on dynamics on Q3 was very much missed but this thing has dropped more than one mic on the floor... Fab filter has to get scribbling on the drawing board again for sure!
Awesome video!! The only function missing now is the “split eq” and a harmonics section. Pro q clearly paved the way for the look of this plugin. Let’s see what comes of Pro Q 4? Cheers!
Just bought it and tried it for the first time. It’s incredible! Replaced all my EQs that aren’t analog based. Thank you for the review. I’ve been waiting for the price drop that finally happened.
Saw another video the other day about Kirchoff EQ from another opinion i trust (Heron Island Studio) and he raved about it too. Welp, these 2 recommendations are enough for me, i gotta get this. Thanks for the vid
Damn!!.......talk about leave no stone unturned!!. Even an amateur like me can see that, with the huge amount of features, it's still all laid out in a very wise and sensible way. Just like with the SplitEQ, this is going to be such a big advancement for professional mastering engineers.....or anyone else that wants the ultimate digital EQ ;:-)
This EQ really deserves attention, will try it. About the surprising analog gear emulation, does it emulate analog hardware color or just the EQ curves?
I'm wondering how the Nyquist-matched transform algorithm uses information about the Nyquist frequency to "cramp" the signal in a more analog-like fashion. I just emailed them the question. Really impressive seeming EQ. Can't wait to hear it. Thanks!
Crave EQ did the mixed phase thing first where higher frequencies are linear phase and lows are minimum phase. It's called "Transparent" mode in Crave EQ. Kirchoff DID NOT do it first.
Acon Digital Equalize, freely adjustable mixed phase since 2015, although represented as latency control, not as frequencies. Freely adjustable slopes as well, up to 120 dB/oct. It's an evolution with all of these as time goes by. Dynamic section on this one sure is advanced.
the Therms "quantisation noise" and "Oversampling" are a bit new to me fro digital equalizers.. quantisation noise, i never heard about that for EQs, and Oversampling, well that should be for analoge emulation..
After using Kirchhoff for 2 months, I found myself going back to ProQ3. Maybe I'm one of few who had this issue, but the Kirchhoff couldn't keep up with my work load of 35-50 tracks, each with plugins. It began to run slowly and render my projects difficult to work on. I literally thought my PC was dying, but realised later it was just the Kirchhoff that was the issue. Going back to ProQ3, I missed it so much and projects began to run smoothly once again. I would like to iterate that I have friends who enjoy the Kirchhoff and switched to it, but it's just my personal experience and I didn't enjoy it.
@@mixbustv my PC is on 64gb ram and i9 with all the storage in the world. Still acted very weird and kept glitching my projects. ProQ3 is phenomenal and still gets the job done. Stay humble g.
@@mixbustv don’t own that one I know good engineers love it , I have the waves F6 pretty cool ,Eventide split EQ looks very interesting, but I’ll likely choose this kirchoff EQ eventually just got the spl EQ it never ends !
No Moog or Oberheim filter??? Tssss.... :D Thx for this review. I see they have an "OwnTHD" fx .... For us poor ones who work purely digital, any idea of its usefulness? I didn't know at all this ThreeBodyTech maker. Their Chinese flutes are very appealing too ^^ Thx.
I looked at the Three Body Tech/Kirchhoff site, as well as a KVR discussion page, which indicate that this plug-in still isn’t Apple Silicon native. I’m avoiding Rosetta 2 on my recording set-up, so until the Kirchhoff EQ runs naive, it’s a hard pass for me.
Being able to use a Neve-style curve for the high's, an SSL-style curve for the mid's, and a seemingly ISA-style curve for the low's? Seems pretty bad-ass to me!
hello, in frequency2 (cubase stock plugins) you can declare more than one side chain source, and each dynamic band can use a different side chain source (it s really cool feature for example with a single instance you can duck the lowend with the bass, duck the mid with the vocal...) , can kirchoff do that? right now i m using pro q3+frequency+split eq + some analogue eq emulation (with non linearities)...i wish i could use only one plugin to replace them all.
Dave you're late to the party. LoL I cursed out White Noise (not Wytse at White Sea Studio) to do a video on Kirchhoff EQ. I've been getting in your butt to do this like two Rock's (one Rock wouldn't be strong enough to pin you down to get inside of yours hahahaa) Oh c'mon that was good. Uh Oh Richard.....*slap* If you don't respond with a heart, then I know you hate this comment. This is the cause and effect relationship we have here, buddy. Hahaha LoL
Very curious about this one. I’ve always liked linear phase EQs in very specific scenarios (such as a top end boost on something not transient heavy, like vocals) but actively dislike them most other places. I’ve always wondered if the quantization noise and transient smearing is part of what I’m hearing that I like about them in those upper frequencies. I’ve also thought that an EQ that allows different algorithms for different moves would be helpful (as opposed to 2 different instances). Curious!
I tried it and DAAMNNNN is it smooth. I’ve never had an EQ that runs this smoothly and easy. Yea my past EQs are the stock one and even the F6-Dynamic but this is just tops for me. I decided to go on the upgrade since my other EQs aren’t like wow or anything but the Pro Q is mad expensive so I decided to go with this one.
And what about if you boost?! The most eqs like fabfilter are very weak Boost 4 db with maag eq my house is bouncing boost 4 db on fabfilter nothing realy happened to the sound.....
This is idd the best eq. I think if you had this eq when starting out, I don't think you will ever need other eq because you have everything combined in one and yet still in the same prize with Pro Q
I picked this up a few weeks ago and really like it. The great thing is the demo has no time limit and only restriction is loading and saving presets. Only con I’ve seen is it doesn’t seem to have the ability to add analog character, it’s just a clean digital EQ. Which isn’t a big problem to me. Another great EQ similar to this but not as advanced is the HoRNeT Total EQ which you can pick up for like $14 on sale often. Total EQ does have a per band saturation feature. One con is while it has dynamic EQ per band it’s fixed. But a good simple option that is very affordable.
Wow, I’m really impressed by the new dynamic processing of the Kirchhoff EQ! I think FabFilter Pro Q3 is/was the best digital EQ but I think I must give this new Kirchhoff plug-in a chance. Thanks for letting us know and sharing your thoughts about it.
I don’t have pro q3 and was thinking about purchasing this eq or q3. I am newer to mixing/mastering but I saw that the modeled analog equals are “no non-linear”. I tried demo and I couldn’t hear a problem but maybe my hearing hasn’t developed to hear that (heard that when things are linear it can cause a ringing but when it’s not tone can be drastically different since you are adding/taking away from signal). Does this matter? Did I fall for a “new guy” mistake being concerned with something that isn’t a big deal? Any help or clarification from someone is appreciated :)
Its ok, you're a bit confused because the terms are confusing. "Non-linearities" referes to all the idiosincrasies that real analog hardware imparts to the sound, that includes saturation (which is never static, it changes constantly depending on settings, level, interaction between bands, components and whole lot of other things), phase shift and more. So when you see that these "analog models" don't have non-linearities it means they only modeled the curves of those eqs. It's not a bad thing, you have a transparent eq with proven to work curves from famous eq's. The pre-ringing is instead a byproduct of a TYPE of digital eq which are called "linear phase eq's". This has absolutely nothing to do with the previos scenario. Linear phase eq's are used to specific tasks where other type of eq's would fail or these would just be better. But these eq can cause "pre-ringing" and smear transients and so on. So the right too for the right job, there's not one size fits all.
What features u think missing i see some say split eq what else? I tried the demo feel very smooth and snappy. But some plugins got more oversampling than 2. Is 2enough?
Like the mind blowing plugin! It is a mind blowing introduction video as well! Good job. Does the analogue emulation only emulates the curve? or also the circuitry? the saturation?
Dave, 2 questions. 1. Does this EQ allow to switch to Linear Phase mode for dynamic EQing on either mid/side? For example you want to add dynamic boost on sides but with Linear Phase mode 2. Many times you mentioned that using Linear Phase EQ for HPF and low end filters is not good idea. Indeed using regular EQ for HPF while mastering in most cases sounds better. What about these new Linear Phase modes for HPF? Thank you
To the first question, no you can't do that, it would be pretty tricky to achieve that because you'd have different latency, probably you'd have to delay the minimum phase signal as well but also, I don't see much use for that. Second question: this is gonna minimize most of the problems regular LP have, especially with mixed phase since you can even select the xover freq. Time (and use) will tell.
o m g As long as the top end sounds nice like the SSL x EQ. I think it does when it talks about the anti cramping thing. Isnt this also a multi band compressor?
