I recently bought the NSEQ-2 and it's amazing - can really bring out subtleties without upsetting the balance. I also got the bx_digital V3 for mastering. So far very impressed, though there is SO MUCH to it! With both, I was looking for something to colour the mixes in a really interesting way. Highly recommend trying both out from Plugin Alliance I was looking for a Curve Bender kind of experience. I got what I wanted For channel strip EQ I want some colour again, and to limit my options. Cut it or crank it. API 550 / Scheps 73 etc The Kirchhoff looks ideal for anything needing more attention.
In case you are wondering why the spectrograph was show noise on the master buss when nothing was playing,. It's because a plugin(s) is leaking noise. That's how sensitive their spectrograph is. I identified 6 plugins that I own that are leaking noise, half were console emulators & one was a de-esser. I saw the same thing when I downloaded the demo & tried it. So I bought it right away. Also for it's main features too.
I like using the blue eq or the “maag” and crank up that 20-30k air band on this. Also the customization of the looks of the plugin so it won’t look like ff Q3 is fun. Lol plus mixed phase mode!
this looks pretty good actually, its basically fab filters one but more more, i tend to use EQ's based on feel, as in what suits the song mood wise, within averages or approximations, buses help, use a limter or compressor pre or post whatevers to deal with the blind sculpture random stuff that happens, always go back to my ears, the visual information distracts me, but that could just be a me thing, the audience doesn't see that, only hear it...how does a piano, vocal, drumkit, bass sound and feel in real life, that reference point, but this looks like a great swiss army knife, a fine brush, i will look into this, be great with mixbus 32c I use for the hey listen to this button, Thanks W. coolios
@@Producelikeapro will do! just noticed the amount of curves you have and if the dynamic controls are what i hope they are (relaxed responses) then yeah, basically a really good time to be had i feel. will report results.
I got this plug in after watching your review and I have to say I've been VERY impressed with it. It sounds great, is very easy to use and I can use multiple instances of it
I have been really hesitant so far spending money on EQs except the ones coming with my Waves packages. Usually I use Logic OOB EQs, classic console channel plugins (mostly SSL 4000) and the TDR Nova as dynamic EQ. ProQ has always been tempting, but I have never did that step. Now the Kirchhoff looks like the thing I have always been looking for. And of course I want to win it.
@@Producelikeapro Just wanted to mention, the DAW, Studio One actually added Dynamic EQ to their stock EQ plugin they call Pro EQ lol. And they also added a dedicated DeEsser plugin oddly enough, lol. This Kirchoff EQ is leading the pack I think. Only thing left is for it to react to ones thoughts and apply automatically, lol. The McDSP AE400 (AE600 is 6 band) is a really good dynamic EQ's, and the first one I ever used. Used it for deessing and and lowend control on the Buss the first time I used it. Shared its function all over the place years ago... Some FB members may remember thinking I was silly for even mentioning it, but became a thing years later lol.
Pro Q does all this minus the emulations. But If I want an E channel EQ Ill use an SSL channel strip. Then do the corrective and dynamics with Pro Q. If you have Pro Q this is a waste of $
Great review and examples. I'm still a little ambivalent about dynamic EQing..... sometimes it feels like a very nervous person constantly fiddling around.
Definitely inspired by DMG Equilibrium and Pro Q 3 rolled into one plugin with some new features! I’ll definitely check it out, but I have all my favorite EQ’s already - both plug-ins and hardware. So let’s see.
@Matt, the noise that you see is often from a plugin configured to create analog noise. The FFT from the Kirchoff is so sensitive that it displays everything in detail. The kirchoff is my main EQ and I have it for about 6 months, and still I find new things in this "beast". Personally I don't use the 117bit mode, I don't need that bit depth all the way till -300db, it makes no sense, it only eats CPU power. But on some materials, I use the look ahead function. Like high processed 808 drums. I use the Kirchoff because it is in my Plugin alliance suite. It came at the right time, because I was planning to buy the Fabfilter Q3.
to answer your quetion: allways loved the W-F6 & MH-Channelstrip, PSP got some great EQs with Neon and MasterQ! I am quite into Plugin Allience for a while. Besides Focusrit/Neve emulations from them, Tomo and Knif are f... bargain
Kirchoff actually helped define some of the most fundamental laws of electric current. Like the output of a node is the sum of the input of the nodes... the man is a legend. Not quite sure what the eq has to to with his name tho
It depends, on review videos with interfaces unless the unit has a compressor built in I won't compress. However, on a recording where I'm not demoing what a unit can do I will use compression on the way in.
Funny how in isolation, the snare sounded pretty dark. It sounds great in the mix, but context is everything. Seems like some instruments more than others really just sound right in certain context. Electric guitar can be tricky like that too.
I'm currently using the ToneBoosters EQ4 which offers similar features. I auditioned it alongside ProQ3 and preferred EQ4. Amazingly it only costs $29!! It will be interesting to hear how EQ4 compares to the Kirchhoff Eq!?
"In line?" (-Matt) I feel like going so heavy with dynamic processing creates distracting pumping. I'd rather automate if need be. That said, this plugin is fantastic. so glad it's part of Plugin Alliance's mix and master bundle
Hey Warren long time. Again, amazing mix and wish I seen this when you were doing the giveaway. definitely the plug-in I’m looking for. I think the summer sale is like $149. I saw your friends video on the Fabfilter Pro Q3. I think this has a lot to offer. ❤️

Skeuomorphism is totally farted at nowadays but I think when used creatively it is still useful. I love how this interface combines the FabFilter style layout with the model specific control pop up. Selecting an SSL model and then seeing the controls change to the classic console knob colors is badass. Plus it's useful if using many instances of this plugin...you can click through identify what model you're using by the knobs.
I got this through the Plugin Alliance subscription and cannot understand how in this video he has 57 instances of this plugin. I got one instance to try it on a single channel and immediately my CPU spiked to the point I had to grab the ProQ3 instead but for those with newer and more powerful computers, I believe this is the dog's bollocks!
Thanks Warren! FUN FACT: Filtering audio frequencies dates back at least to acoustic telegraphy and multiplexing in general. Audio electronic equipment evolved to incorporate filtering elements as consoles in radio stations began to be used for recording as much as broadcast. Early filters included basic bass and treble controls featuring fixed frequency centers, and fixed levels of cut or boost. These filters worked over broad frequency ranges. Variable equalization in audio reproduction was first used by John Volkman working at RCA in the 1920s. That system was used to equalize a motion picture theater sound playback system. How come the equalizer didn’t see the compressor coming? Because it had a quick attack! Have A Great Day Everyone!
I got it as part of my mega-deal, as an early adopter I have a great rebate on the normal deal, roughly €1 per plugin per year, including this EQ, happy as a pig in schnizel……..
I came here to get another opinion on the Kirchhoff-eq. Now I‘ve bought the eq + heard a fantastic track, can’t wait to mix! Thanks for the great video and the multitracks of course!
Lovely! It’s so nice to hear beautiful source tracks in a video like this. Often the tracks chose are either hideous sounding or they are not appropriate for the device being tested. This is a winner. 👍😎👍
if they would add a knob to add matching saturation for each of the analog modeled curves this would truly be the ultimate EQ. I'm all for them adding more hardware curves too!
I’ve had this EQ for about a week now and it’s already changed my whole way of doing things, for the very much better. The specific case that had me try this was high hat taming, and I was glad to see that very situation addressed on this video! Bring up the sizzle and control the growl! I loathe using the term “game changer” but this EQ genuinely has.
@@Journeymanlive I was using parametric 4 bands before and separate compressors and such. The big change for me is the interface and having the spectrum graph the eq and the compression controls all in the same window. Granted there are infinite ways to achieve the same audio manipulations.
looks and sounds great , I have a waves F6 for some time now which has the dynamic thing and mid side I'm surprised this plugin was never compared it's always the fab filter stuff. although I do like the multi emulations this has. I'll likely buy it eventually. have you ever tried the F6 ? also Eventide's split EQ is interesting maybe you guys can review that one
