Maybe if the system had found someone who could have dealt with her husband who happened to keep control over her financially and thus emotionally. Dan was the head of the CA Bar Association. She should have been advised perhaps to take the divorce out of state to NY where they were married and she had family support. She would have found an equal lawyer to Dan there. I often wonder why Betty didn't hire a private investigator to confirm Dan's affair which he had denied.
Dan wasn't remorseful of his adultery, his lies, selling the house under neath her, his brother helping him take large amounts of money and hiding it, and taking her kids. No one mentions his and Linda's wrong doing! Why? Betty makes it about her because she literally made sure Dan succeeded in every way, for 16 years she did this. The kids unfortunately were caught in the middle and lost both parents because of it..The lady snapped!

No matter how she felt about him or how much of a bully he was towards her at the end of the day those children loved their father and wanted him to stay alive which is probably why they testified against her. With their father dead and their mother in prison for decades, they're practically orphans and that's really horrible.

Spouses cheat and file for divorce. I would guess money and infidelity are probably the most common reasons for divorce. I empathize with Betty, I really do, but she is still in the eighties and can’t get beyond something that occurred almost 35 years ago. That is why they won’t release her. She has not been able to look at the insanity she caused and take some responsibility for it. Dan and Linda were awful, but I kind of think they deserved each other. That relationship would have imploded too. Linda was still seeing an old boyfriend 3 weeks before her wedding with Dan.
