Building Tamiya's good old T-34/76 model kit not as intended, but as a German captured vehicle, also known as a Beutepanzer. I paint the tank using the standard German camouflage colours of Dunkelgelb, Olive green, and red brown, using paints from the AK Real Colours range, then weather the model with acrylic and enamel products from AK and Ammo by Mig.
The Soviets built over 80,000 T-34 with several major and many minor variations and versions. Hopefully in the future I will get to build more versions of the tank!

These kits are great. They're cheap and you can really go to town in bringing them alive with added welds, cast marks, etc. I think they are better than more expensive kits, that all you are left to do is after market add-ons and painting and weathering.

I agree about the 70s-90s Tamiya tank kits, they are fast to build, cheap and has enough details for the price yet most of them are easy to build.

An excellent build! Tamiya kit is a good starting point for improving the modellers skill.. the only thing is those two tow lugs right on the nose.. they were added by the folks at APG because the engine was either inop or not in at all.. and used to tow the tank around...

Hey mate, i totally agree with you. These old tamiya kits might be a bit rough compared to the newer ones but still enjoyable to build and to practice techniques on. I built this kit recently and used it as a guinea pig for Mr Surfacer application 😊 Enjoy your videos and approach to the hobby, its about having fun and enjoying the process how you want to, not who is the best or historical accuracy. Most people who look at my models wouldn't have a clue whats right or wrong. Cheers and regards, dave

I always come back to Tamiya for a stress free build. Another idea for tarps is to use disposable optic wipes. I get mine in Lidl or Wilko. Perfect,to my eye, thickness and a good-sized for small to medium sized tarps etc.

Hehe, thank you :) I recently bought some metal tracks for my Tamiya Sd.Kfz 7, then I found out that the Tamiya kit is incorrect and the wheels are the wrong size, so the tracks don't fit! Back to rubber bands then...
@MikeUSA67
@MikeUSA67 2 года назад
Nice work as always MN! I bought this kit last year and after studying the instructions, I discovered that you can build two versions (as you mentioned in your video). I couldn't decide which one to choose, so I simply picked up another kit and built both versions simultaneously! That really made me happy 😁I had so much trouble figuring out how exactly those square fuel tanks were fitted, and because the instructions were so vague on that part, I installed them incorrectly three times. I very nearly lost it but all is well now!
@ModelNerd

Hehe, the choice can be a bit overwhelming, can't it? I'd love to build this kit again, or Tamiya's other version (with the winter camo on the front)

Yes - unusual for a Tamiya kit, even an old one. Then again, the real T-34s have big gaps in them too! :)

Awesome build!!! Am actually building this very same kit (for the 3rd time) as a captured German vehicle, just like you did. Must admit, like your camo pattern better than what I did - placed green splotches outlined in red-brown over the vehicle. I used BOITH the rectangular fuel tanks and 1 of the round fuel tanks to try and make it look "German", as well as, adding some side skirts that I saw in a reference book - think it looks good. Anyway, the grass/leaves I will be trying out myself and never really thought about painting the un-ditching log to actually try and resemble an actual tree!!!! Will have to try that as well!! Also working on one of Tamiya's M4 Shermans as captured by the Germans and having fun placing olivgrun/rotbraun over a US Army olive drab - looks good as well. Yep - people complain about hese older/ancient Tamiya kits, but I like them.

Given the age of the kit, Tamiya actually got a lot right, and that counts for something. The overall level of detail and what you get is good. The T-34 is simple, but Tamiya does a nice job given the standards of the time. The overall dimensions of the chassis and upper hull armor plates are also not too bad although the angle of the hull sides is off by a degree or two, This isn't really obvious, visually. A bigger problem than something being off by 1 degree or 1 millimeter is the position of details on the hull and chassis, versus the proportions of the hull and chassis. The molded suspension arms are all in the wrong place, with the errors ranging from 1mm at the back to 5mm at the front. The upper engine deck detailing, including the fan cover, is skewed and stretched I noticed that the size and location of the driver's hatch are off, as is the machine gun housing.The kit tracks are poor in that they are short, tight and thin.
@ModelNerd
@ModelNerd 2 года назад
Thanks for the info - I didn't know that much about the T-34. I did notice that the road wheels are not evenly spaced, but it turns out that is a real feature.
@josecesar8657
@josecesar8657 2 года назад
@@ModelNerd Since Tamiya worked off a real Factory 183 T-34 Model 1942 to develop this kit, what you get is most accurate if you build that version with this kit.

Hi MN, I like the options you chose and the additions you made. I'm a fan of captured tanks for the story they tell of their history of service: where they came from and what happened in the field. The leaves and grass convey this tale nicely. I like the touch with the bird. I think it adds action to the scene. Very nice, neat work. PS Are you considering doing another Helicopter? They are a different sort of build, interesting stuff. Just a thought. Anyway, see you soon

Thank you Michael, I really appreciate your comments. I do have another helicopter - a Lynx - that was given to me at the recent Airfix day.
