An extraordinary guest even by your high standards. What a mind Ms Ochieng has - so much content compressed into 45 minutes; I got breathless trying to follow all she had to communicate and will have to rewatch this whole video.
@@SiliconCurtain Methinks tRumpanov canceled the U.S. directives supported by the Military in Africa. The U.N. are effectively neutered with russia and china on the U.N. Security Council. Exactly where they both want the U.N to be.
Dre. Ochieng managed to cover so much more than I was able to piece together in two years, in 20 minutes! Precious interview indeed and I can't wait to know more!
@@ivanlaplante she didn't say much but it's a start. i assume if she went into more detail she would have lost the casuals. there is much to be discussed about what and where wagner is operating and especially who they are collaborating with and why.
It is well known among serious observers, but since it is long form instead of shorter form, daily updates, it’s always going to have a smaller audience.
SHE’S BACK! one of my favourite guests from the past episodes you’ve done, very eloquently spoken and a good communicator. i’m always down to hear more about Russia’s activities in Africa (not discussed enough)… also wouldn’t mind some episodes about Russia’s policy in the Arctic and far north, btw!
Nothing good, unless they become good 🌻! Still, lots surrendered and switched side and became good yet while remaining alive! I'd count this as a good side of some of them, but way too few, way too few.
Ah yes, Wagner. Out of sight, out of mind. Until they're not, like any problem you try to get to go away by ignoring it. What's going on in Africa is so complex, I don't feel like I even remotely understand it. It's just all way too much. But it was good, to get a bit of a general overview again.
Great interview! Still remember an interview by NBC Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel, of a desperate widow in the Central African Republic. Her husband and 8 others were shot and killed at a goldmine they were working at, after refusing to leave and were shot and thrown in a pit, by Wagner Mercenaries. Wagner is involved in illicit gold mine activities. She now has no one to support herself and 4 children. Wagner is also looting Sudan's rich gold mines. 😠
Russia, as all communist countries (all of them created with a Kremlin puppet), call themselves "anti-colonialist". That doesn't mean they aren't colonialist themselves, they are, and Russia the biggest of them all. You see, anti-colonialist in their language is just a code for anti-Western/anti-American. Black is white, white is Black, wrong is right, right is wrong, freedom is slavery etc.
@@SiliconCurtain Indeed. My maternal grandparents emigrated from Poland to the USA. My mother's cousin Juneau Zajfert survived a Nazi concentration camp no thanks to Stalin. It was our British Allies who liberated Cousin Juneau from that concentration camp. Poland and Ukraine and the Baltic States are supporting eachother for very good reasons due to Russia's vile bitter arrogant history.
It may, sadly, take seeing how much worse things become w/Russia + China taking the place of Western govs or and/or the UN (and that’s despite the UN often very ineffective) before we can reset relations across Africa. Western govs though, in some cases, allowed their relationships to deteriorate by not devoting enough attention or resources to their African partners. One mistake the West often makes is trying to promise too much and bite off too much. Focus on solving smaller problems while building up local knowledge and trust before trying to solve the major problems.
Has Beverly Ochieng published any books on politics in Sub-Saharan Africa? It's rare to hear anyone so knowledgable about such a complex subject, while talking about it so clearly.
Thank you so much, Jonathan, for inviting Beverly Ochieng again! I wanted to suggest it on the one year "anniversary", and here it already is. Thank you so much, Beverly Ochieng, for sharing your immense knowledge with us, even though the ongoing protests could be heard in the background. I hope to hear from you again soon on Silicon Curtains. 🇺🇦 Перемоги і миру всім українцям! 🇺🇦
Erzyas, Maris, Mokshas, Khants, Mansis, Komis, Udmurts, Saamis, Vepsians, Izhorians, Ingrians, Karelians, just to mention some indigenous peoples that were colonized by consecutive Russian empires, including the Soviet one. These are Uralic language speaking nations and ethnic groups. There are approximately 30 surviving Finno-Ugric languages of which exactly three aren't critically endangered: Hungarian, Estonian, and my native Finnish. Several languages have gone extinct and will continue to go extinct this century. They are literally forgotten. There used to be limited cooperation between the Finno-Ugric peoples of the West and Russia after the iron curtain was lifted, but it got increasingly difficult again since 2012. We haven't had any formal contact since 2021. Against this background, it really hurts me to hear that Russia isn't a colonial empire. No, it's one of the biggest and most brutal, consisting of over 190 captive nations and ethnic groups. Stalin's crimes went completely unpunished. That's a historical injustice that we may have been able to live with if it wasn't for Putin deciding to pick up where he left off. Russians living in Piter or Moscow have no idea about the extent of crimes that are committed in their name and frankly, don't care.
I’d love if you had more guests like with expertise on the situation in Africa (especially experts who live there) as well as those with expertise on Russian relationship with ME states. There’s a dearth in this area and an over abundance in the rest.
Russian multiproned approach: undermining stability in Africa causes greater migrant pressure on Europe while Russian disinformation stirs anti-migrant hostility in Europe.
@@SiliconCurtain so you are concerned that Western influence is being driven away from Africa, what have the West done for Africa that we can cry about the West's influence being driven away? All I know is sanctions from the West, Orchestrated Coup's by the West, Civil Society manipulation by the West one classic example is Uganda, West through its proxies is controlling the Diamond mines of DRC many of the diamonds make to Antwerp, i mean its a choice of which of the two is meeting my needs and at least give me space to heal, which the West has denied me of such an experience. I don't understand the way you are thinking and perceiving the 21st Century African, your leaders stiff necks birthed the chaos you are witnessing, your prejudicial nature as the West has brought this chaos. It's fine we've lived through dictators and we understand them very well....
Strong one. 👍 Not enough views. 😢 Africa still a playball for the strong. Fight corruption, invest in education then diverse economic relations. Easier said then done. 🇺🇦🇺🇦✌🇺🇦🇺🇦 🪄⬜🟦⬜🪄
Fascinating and informative interview. Good on you Sir. It seems Africa will forever be a victim, unable to govern and defend itself properly. Such a shame
This interview was an absolute pleasure to listen to with information which was slightly broader, but still related to Russia's war against Ukraine. Ms. Ochieng was very knowledgeable and great at making a point understandable.
Do African countries see stability and peace in the return to the subjugation of women? I’m wondering how inconvenient ‘women’s rights’ are?, and opposition to forced marriage and clitoridectomy, are they also disturbing the peace? Will the removal of oversight be a disaster for women? Or will women be ok?
Russians when talking to French speaking Africa: The West are bad bad colonialist, Russia is good good anti-imperialist anti-colonial ally, let us take their place for your own benefit History Legends, leading pro-Russian youtuber in the English sphere: Here, watch this single most extensive case for French colonialism on RU-vid, why it was to the benefit of the colonized Africans, and why the French should be proud of their colonial past and were wrong to let Africa decolonize.
NGL, shame on western colonialism for making it so easy for groups like Wagner to play the good guys, even if named after Hitler's favorite composer and naming its African division the Afrika Korps, ffs. Hard not to see it as a miserable moral failure on our part. I truly, profoundly wish that we would repair our past mistakes and play an authentic role in helping Africa build the infrastructures it desperately need to kickstart its own development. Still seems like we're only good for sending mining corporations there to fill their own pockets while helping the locals so little in exchange.
The Wagner PMC`s cames because the local banana republc diktators was loosing control over their empire . Wagner PMC`s was hired by this littel kings to save support their own power position and was given the right to do whats nessesary to keep the dictators power position. In this case : This sheeps elected their own slaughters .
This was such an informative discussion. I was waiting to hear how russia was materially benefiting from their activities in so many African Countries, and your guest's views of Ukrainian Special Fources being active in Congo, who are providing Military training and actively pursuing Ẅağğŋəŕtƴ Mercanaries there. Maybe next time. Thanks Jonathan. 🔱Heroyam Slava🔱
A russian journalist team traveled to the central african republic Congo to made reports over wagner pmc`s actions in this area. Short after their arrival all members of this russian journalist team got killed in an ambush while driving to a small village wherer wagner pmc`s was based . Nothing was looted under this ambush ; usual happens when african government oppositionel rebells made such attacs . This case was never cleared up because the russian government denied every support to find the killers.
