As someone who has been involved in music for over 50 years, I don't find Cream dated. That blend of jazz, blues and rock is timeless for many. Ginger's character aside, that period he spent with Cream was extremely creative and he influenced many drummers around the world.

An emotionally disturbed man who was systematically abused as a child. There are many around like this, who failed to seek the help they so rightly deserved.

Just watched this tonight,on the day Ginger passed. Absolutely amazing drummer, with an artistic temperament... May the old bigger rest in peace ( though I doubt it!!!) ♥

Ginger was interviewed for the Baker’s Dozen feature on the Quietus website, where you choose thirteen albums you love. Ginger was the only person who exclusively picked his own records!

Ginger Baker is a real person, a real star and not a celebrity. Awesome to see someone genuine with talent. Does not happen often these days!

Getting your nose broken by being struck by a cane is nothing to laugh about. It is a good film. The cartoon drawings and references to Ben Hur and the rowing on the slave war ship was a nice touch. The film touched on a core reason Ginger got messed up. During World War Two, as the troop train pulled away from the station, Ginger went running after his dad, screaming in tears. He knew he would never see his dad again alive. Ginger’s dad died as a British soldier. It devastated Ginger and formed a major part of who he was. Under that hard shell, there was a very sensitive, emotional, loving man.

His level of skill w/ Fela Kuti is pretty brilliant. RIP Ginger Baker

Cream and Blind Faith are of my time, and I still love their music. Great respect for Ginger, but he clearly was a terror.

I love his quote after getting the sack from Hawkwind, "The world's best drummer has just been sacked by the world's worst guitarist!"

Just read Doug Butler's 'Moon The Loon'.

As a teenager, he was my mate Paul s next-door neighbor in leafy suburbia .No idea at the time what a living legend he was .Sad to see him pass but dont think anyone who knew him in his prime thought he would make 40 let alone 80

These are people who enjoy the sound of their own voices, they feed on the lives of others and have nothing to offer any of us. Baker whatever his faults was inspirational and talented and Cream have their place in history forever. I didn’t know him and neither did these pompous, ridiculous creatures who should go back to Radio 2 and be force fed a diet of Village People and Betty Manilowe !

Ginger acted, toward the end of his life, like so many people I've met and seen in my working life who have had acquired brain injury. I guess he did.

I love how Simon throws in Abba The Movie and then Mark concludes the review by summarizing his thoughts on that movie.

He gets emotional when talking about the drummers he admired and become friends. He lost his father when he was a child and never knew him. These drummers were father figures.

I think it's all about insecurity and self worth. My greatest hope - as a huge fan of his drumming - was that he might mellow with age and be a bit nicer, but it seems the opposite has happened. I think it's incredibly sad that towards the end of life Ginger still cannot let his guard down and be a nice person and smile and be happy.

I disagree with this review. I think it's a good and interesting documentary that gives an honest and unpolished picture of a drumming genius. I am a Cream fan and they are one of the 60's bands that have aged the best.

Imagine people harassing you with all kind of stupid questions. Wouldn't it drive a normal person mad? I understand Maestro Baker's behaviour, although I would probably never be this way, because we have different personalities. Just see his love shining through the passage where he talks about his favourite drummers who became his friends! That's when you see the real Ginger Baker, full of admiration and gratefulness. The rest is just his way of protecting himself against the crazy world of show business. Who would blame him for that? Respect Mr. Baker and R.I.P. Thanks for the great music and your contribution to the renewal of music!

I disagree with Mark Kermode, this is a great documentary. It's fascinating, pacy, and a brilliant insight into a crazy man and a wonderful drummer, warts and all.

...So he was right, based on those rather patronizing comments about Cream. If you don't know what you're listening to, or understand it, what the hell are you doing making a movie about it?

"Of its time" .What a pointless and inaccurate thing to say .You may as well say that about Miles Davis ,Jimi Hendrix or Picasso.

I didn't come away thinking what a horrible person he is...you'd have to be a bit of a moron to sit n' judge. The guy went through multitudes of experiences that most of us haven't even contemplated...let alone, lived. The documentary starts with him hitting someone that says a lot about the way the documentary maker depicts him as the boombastic drummer. It's one side of a coin.

"Blind faith and Cream are of their time". Behave yourself. Stick to what you know best mate, whatever that is.
