Beyond The Summit and The Future of Melee 

This is super sad to hear. Summit has been my favorite event since its beginning, and it seemed like all the players genuinely enjoyed the events as well.

the circuits being cancelled last year was sad but this is so much worse imo. BTS was an absolute pillar of the community in a way that Panda and VGBC never even have achieved. They pulled Melee into the future and kept such a high standard at all times. It's incredibly sad to see them go

I hope GG Melee comes in clutch.

I loved BTS when I followed dota 2 and they even chose to promote and elevate smash which was huge. There was real passion and also good business benefits. Only love and respect for everyone who worked for the org

Wow I'm amazed they had to close up shop. They seemed super successful. Maybe they grew too fast or weren't running a lean enough machine? I understand trying their hardest not to take on venture capital but that is one way to keep the business going in tough times. Idk how big their payroll was so maybe it just wasn't feasible. Sad to see it go but maybe someone can pick up the pieces and run with a similar format/structure in the future.

The Arizona scene had a pretty banger invitational recently which was very Summit-like.

Going to miss BTS and the role they played in the Smash community :(( Cheers to everyone involved and thank you to everyone who worked hard to grow our scene and bring us some of the most magical events and content in grassroots esports history. Incredible that an independent company was able to do all that. TY for the vid PPMD. Also whoever "2002dota" is in the stream chat, why do u have to spread so much misinfo... ;-; they did not go bankrupt / file for bankruptcy and it's not that they "couldn't afford to pay their employees" (?). They estimated that they wouldn't be able to afford to operate into 2024, so they did the responsible thing and closed down now to give their employees the best possible severance. Very weird to be spreading info that is so wildly inaccurate.

I picked up Flaco yes I call him Flaco and I try to even if I loose all my games, learn something train a move I try to be like you play with my brain more than my skill. it was really hard for me to start melee last year to simply understand wavedash waveshine etc now I can do it in fight and I keep watching you know the episode Bronol made about you and I observe how you used to play and I still try to learn from this I just love the player you were so much

Summit is the only event that can have only a couple dozen people and still be, effectively, a super major. It's loss is real something, but Melee will live on...

This is sad news. I wish all the best to those affected directly by losing an income opportunity. Also sad for us viewers and the unique experience that the pros had at Summit. Hope it returns at some point

Summit was my favourite. How they failed, I'd love to know

While of course BTS as a corporation going under is a huge blow to Smash (especially with VGBC suffering & Panda pretty much imploding), I'm honestly not all that torn up about the end of Smash Summits. I've found the multi-day invitational format pretty stale for a few years now (although some truly amazing moments like Summit 11's GF have come from it even in recent years), but more importantly the voting process put a lot of strain financially on the community (this was brought up a while back but nothing really came of it afaik). Losing Mainstage and their streaming service while the wheels are falling off everything else are the biggest immediate issues from my perspective. Invitationals are also just much simpler to organize (as Lud's shown us last year) so I'm sure SS' shoes could be filled if need be in the future.

Amazing how VGBC is still around after they cancelled a successful esports org over jealousy and slander.

Sounds like Alan wasn't so wrong after all.

I'm biased but I can't help but feel the Smash ultimate pedophiles and their defenders doomed all of smash. It's the elephant in the room why we don't get support. And the situation exposed a lot of people not even remotely involved (VGBC) as unprofessional and disorganized. And now the big grassroots orgs are going down. And maybe this community deserves it.

Looking back on it all, boycotting the panda cup was one of our communities biggest mistakes

2:50 Let’s be real, that’s not a positive. Alan had a licensed tournament and would have been able to weather the storm. But because Gimr is an idiot, he wanted to blame Panda for his fuck ups. In no way was that whole situation a positive. Remember BTS was one of the people behind the mod to get Panda shut down and now they’re gone, so we have no tournament. At least if Alan was around, we’d have a big Smash tournament. Community made its bed with that one.
