On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

They'd break apart, but let's just say they wouldn't: I assume that they would still heavily compress at higher speeds, but they would pretty much always have enough power to sustain optimal turning speeds. So yes, they would be pretty dangerous... as long as you don't run from them making them compress while they try to chase you

The best you'd get is with a turboprop. The Never Exceed Speed of the 109 is pushing 470MPH. The P-40E and later models could out dive the '109 (the P-40s sure could not climb).

That is a trend in the WWII vs. Modern scenarios. The piston fighters can take a lot more hits before totally failing. Not sure if it is a thing with DCS, or if the piston fighters just have more durability. Maybe it is like everyday cars vs. high -performance race cars. One can have a warning light on for weeks without a problem, while the other one is so finely tuned that a failure is nearly always catastrophic.

@@samuelzuleger5134 I think that modern aircraft are jam-packed with critical equipment. Older aircraft had unused space in the fuselage so you could poke some holes and nothing exploded.

In fights like these, it's important to respect the opponent's craft, even if it's from WWII. Though he may be at a large disadvantage overall, he might have one or two advantages that may work really well in specific scenarios (like flying really slowly+hard turns) I remember reading stories of Operation Constant Peg trainees meeting MiG-17s for the first time, trying to turn with them, and then getting "shot down" because the -17s could turn harder than most modern US jets at the time. Just because it's old doesn't mean it can't be dangerous!

That's what I was thinking too. Compared to the 109 the Typhoon can seemingly create energy out of thin air. Flying to its strengths, there's no way this would even be considered anything but a completely lopsided matchup.

@@ReuterliIf this was a fight without missiles, boom and zoom would be fairly dangerous, at those speeds you come at shallow angles, giving the 109 the opportunity to also shoot you as you pass it

@@theamericancommie727 Depends on if he passes from the front or behind. It’s also not easy to line up a shot on a target that’s low and slow. Speaking of low, the 109 could also use terrain as cover since it’s so slow and nimble compared to a jet. Of course the Typhoon has the advantage but really in a guns only fight the 109 isn’t totally defenseless

I think Round 1 fell apart because you tried to fly the 109 like you would against other props- it may be an iffy turnfighter against its contemporaries, but it absolutely cannot energy fight a modern jet. The inverse happened in Round 2, where the Typhoon tried to 1-circle like it was fighting another jet. Nice fights. Really helps me appreciate the difference in accuracy modern gun sights give. This cross was pretty useless outside of what's effectively melee range lol

"I had to do it point-blank" Given the 109's fairly light volume of fire as well as the poor muzzle velocity of the 30mm cannon in the spinner (I seem to recall a german pilot comparing it to "throwing grapefruit") I thought that this is how you'd manage to get some hits in. That 30mm has got pretty abysmal velocity. It may shoot directly where you are pointing, but damn you've really got to loft the shells to make hits at longer range. Good fight; it is always interesting to watch an asymmetrical matchup. I think your first pilot likely blacked out from blood loss if DCS models that at all.

There’s that Beach Boys song, “She’s so fine, my 109, always turns in the fastest time, giddy up, giddy up, 109. Nothing can catch me, nothing can catch my 109, 109” Hard to pull enough lead shooting in a hard turn in a 109 because your target disappears under the nose. My favorite trick in a slower plane against a jet fighter is to pull a split S near the ground, know what altitude your plane can do this, and see if he tries to stay on your 6 and ends up flying into the ground.
