This man clearly doesn't understand what misogyny means. This "argument" was manipulative and gross. The fact that he wanted to control what she can do and who she can hang out with is insane. Especially in her own home. It's not like she's going to a bar and looking for a hook-up. I bet HE could hang out with all of HIS friends, but somehow it's a sin for women to hang out together. This guy seriously told his girlfriend (someone he presumably wants to keep in his life) that he has serious doubts about the strength and quality of her character. If that’s not manipulation at it’s finest, then I don’t know what is. Also, his reaction could be categorized as sexist, as he automatically assumed that his opinion about her life choices would carry legitimate value. And if he wants to throw around big words that he doesn’t understand, then he should’ve checked his chauvinism before erroneously judging his girlfriend on her “sexism”.

This boyfriend either has some whack idea of what goes on at girls night or he’s possessive and toxic. Or both. I hope she dumps him he sounds like trouble.

I don’t think this has anything to do with misogyny. He wants to sound smart so he can manipulate her into being isolated. Insecure abusive dudes do this. I’m currently in a relationship with someone who always has issues with anything I wanna do without him, hanging out with friends or going shopping. It’s draining and exhausting, and as much as I love him it’s made me fall out of love with him. You have to be able to be your own person, even in a relationship.

I'm a gay man and I talk, I guess, like a woman. I talk about personal stuff and etc. I get bored with talking with guys. They think they talk about important things but they don't. They talk about guns and things to do most often. And if they're "intellectual" they talk about the philosophy of things... like cool, you have some logical and rational understanding of a subject that anyone could read in a book. Guys mostly pass information around, like sharing trivia to show off that they know things. And guys want to put everything in the world into logical/rational boxes... but that diminishes the emotional experience and to me, that's very important

This is so weird. Girls night is a really healthy thing. I have a standing girls night every 3 months with my friend group. It's so important to keep healthy adult relationships outside of your partner. Husbands/Boyfriends and kids are left at home and we go do something or just have dinner and talk for hours.

Listening to this while packing my shit up cause I’m getting evicted… it actually helps to have my mind focus on something else.

As a woman, I wouldn't talk about my man's body or sexual encounters with a girlfriend no matter how close we are just out of respect. I would feel grossed out if he talked with his buddies about my body, I wouldn't do that to him. Yikes, the biggest red flags for an abusive relationship in that one little argument. Leave him girl. Seriously, just dump him now. He's gaslighting, isolating, and controlling all at once. I was in an abusive relationship and this was him to a T. Now I have a man who says "go have fun with your friends. I love you". Heck he basically forced me to go with my girl cousins to a concert a few years ago because he knew I loved the artists performing. He always asks me what was said after I go out, but it's because he's just curious about if there's any new gossip. But, that's what a healthy and confident man does.

That historical info about gossiping is super interesting! Especially since women typically ran the household and communicating with the other women from other households…they would collect a hell of a lot of information on EVERYTHING (including men’s work lives, social lives, etc.)

When it comes to sharing with my friends about intimate details of my relationship there are certain things that are off limits. Mainly out of respect for my husband. I know he would be uncomfortable with certain aspects of our sex life being shared. As long as your partner is okay with it, I don't see any issue with sharing details with friends.
