You want to know the most exciting thing about borrowing a $45,725 camera system? The constant anxiety that I’ll drop it, lose it, or get it stolen. I actually felt the need to drive more carefully with it in my back seat. Like it’s a baby. Why don’t I feel that way with my wife in the car?
Despite the stress of being responsible for something that costs more than my car, I had a damn good time using it. With 100 megapixels of digital medium format goodness in a classic SLR body, the Hasselblad H6D-100c is what the kids call “an absolute unit.” It packs a punch to the wallet and your hard drive. The files are big, the camera’s big, the lenses are big, but the flash is small.
I’d say my favorite thing about this camera wasn’t the resolution (which is incredible) or the color and tones (which are beautiful), but what really got me going is the usability of it. It felt like using a film camera. With minimal bells and whistles, this camera is really designed to get out of the photographer’s way. Sure, it doesn’t have a thousand-and-one functions buried in a complex menu system, but boy does it have what I need.
In this video I’ll tell you about my experience borrowing this equipment and share plenty of pictures from its magnificent sensor.
And my beverage this evening is a bourbon-based cocktail with a recipe as simple as its name: the BLT. As the name suggests, it’s just 3 ingredients: bourbon, lemon, and tonic. It’s a simple drink that is more refreshing than straight whiskey, and more fun than a soda. The bourbon I chose for this mix-drink is Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel (Barrel Proof) Tennessee whiskey. It’s my favorite bourbon for mixing - be it a BLT or a classic Jack and Coke. When you want something crisp and refreshing to wet your whistle, the BLT is not a bad choice.
As always, thanks for watching, please drink responsibly, and here's to you - cheers!
