Great to see this! I’ve also been amazed by the value of the H system on the used market. Not quite the same, but I picked up an H1 recently. I was looking for a medium format film camera for portraits etc. but wanted AF and some automated features to make shooting as easy as possible and not waste film! The most expensive part was the film back, which are getting harder to find in good condition, but the whole setup was much less than £2,000 including an 80mm with only 2k actuations! It’s a joy to use with that huge viewfinder, gorgeous lens and amazingly fast AF - love it 😁

Congrats on a great purchase. I used to have the H1 film camera and with the same lens and it was a joy to use, especially the viewfinder which is in a different league to any other viewfinder I have come across and especially the EVFs being used these days. Would be great if you could post some videos on the colour reproduction for landscape images using Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution and also processing the files using both Lightroom and Phocus. Super great, I am very much looking forward to the debate about the medium format look vs other sensor sizes (hopefully also in relation to video 😍)❣️ Is there maybe a big clash gfx100s vs leica S3 vs H6D-100c in terms of color accuracy/style, dynamic and and light sensitivity?🙏 - This question would also be particularly great in video mode, but do not want to demand anything to niche 😉

Greetings from Russia! Thank you for your wonderful video. I am very glad that you were able to find a camera in such good condition for such a low price. It's luck! If you have the opportunity, please make a comparison of the perspective of medium format and 35 mm. I mean the same focal length in terms of each camera, and the aperture. I know that there are calculators on the Internet to calculate these values taking into account the size of the matrix. I want to buy myself a medium-sized large format. I don't like the mini-medium format like fuji. I think the perspective and volume will be different. I will be glad if you can make such a comparison. If necessary, I can send you a link to a calculator to select the appropriate focal length and aperture for the same depth of field in different formats. Thanks again!

Thanks Vladimir, I know how to calculate equivalent parameters for different sensors, have shown it in various tutorials on this channel. I will do what you proposed (and I also mentioned it in a video that I will do it) and make a video about medium format look and compare it with full frame. It will take some time to do it because I have a stuffed work pipeline at the moment but it will come in the course of the year. Thanks for your kind comment and greetings back.

Aftter many years of shooting the H system cameras, I found myself using the X1Dii more often--especially in travel abroad--so I dumped the H6D-100C and lens system and put my eggs in the X system basket. Also, I was afraid that Hasselblad was going to abandon the system and leave me stranded. I have never stopped missing it! More than ever after this inspiring video. Ugh. Question, I haven't seen you talk much about post processing. Do. you use Phocus or LR/PS, Now that Capture One is opening up to Hasselblad files, I may take a look at that too. Thank you.

I love my H6D 100c - however after trying it on a fashion shoot on location rather than in the studio I found it was so much slower than the X1D, 907x and Leica's and so switched to those - I use an Orange Dot 50-110mm and an Orange Dot 300mm among other non Orange Dot lenses and for quality it is the bomb - nothing matches it - maybe the Phase One XF is better but I don't like the twin battery system of the Phase One.

Great Video! Congratulations on your excellent deal. I have an X1d and also appreciate buying their beautiful used lenses at a discount. I wonder if you could please clear up something for me with the older HC lenses where the software cannot be updated. You said the older lenses are limited to 1/800 sec shutter speed. Do you know what other functionality, if anything, of the older lenses is limited because their software cannot be updated? Thank you!
@mathphotographer

Focusing is slower, still precise but slower. Hasselblad kind of rebuilt these lenses inside and then made them also capable to be updated with new firmware. You recognize the newer lenses by an orange square painted on the lens. Thanks for you kind comment and feedback.

I would love to add a medium format camera to my kit. However, I don't think it will be a modular system like this one. The Fujifilm system has many advantages, although of course it does not have a camera that can shoot 150Mpx. The Leica S3 has, I think, the best weather sealing, and that includes the lenses. Still, I'd like to have a go with a camera like this. I might end up buying an older Phase One or something like that. Just to play around with.
@mathphotographer
@mathphotographer 2 года назад
Thanks Karim. Maybe worthwhile to wait a bit since Leica will clearly modernize the Leica S3 towards a much better standard but keeping the terrific Leica image quality.
@photographiezautrement
@photographiezautrement 2 года назад
@@mathphotographer I don't like the 2:3 Ratio of Leica MFs. And these are small sensors. And given that the optics are not designed for MF Full Frame, I don't think we will see a Leica MF Full Frame one day. The result being the combination of optics AND sensor size, the rendering of the Leica S system is set back compared to Hasselblad, especially MF Full frame. The superlative quality of Leica optics is not enough to compensate for the small sensor. So the rendering is "dryer" with more brutal transitions. This is why these small sensors "respond" more like "large 24x36" than like Medium Format in the sense in which we expect to see it.
@Biosynchro
@Biosynchro 2 года назад
@@photographiezautrement I think you are right: we will not see a bigger sensor from Leica. But, I think we will see a mirrorless ProFormat camera eventually. Perhaps with an SL mount. My hypothesis is that the SL lenses can cover the ProFormat sensor, but nobody has tested that yet.

Good video and great camera. How do you compare it against the X2D in terms of image quality? Does it make sense once the X2D has hit the market?
@mathphotographer
@mathphotographer Год назад
Image quality of the X2D is actually so good that I think your question whether the H6D still makes sense is fully justified. The H6D has besides an even larger sensor one more big advantage and that's the "True Focus" feature which is not yet included in the X2D firmware but hopefully will be included in a future firmware upgrade. Once the firmware of the X2D has all still missing features we are waiting for, the only difference remaining between the two cameras is sensor size which makes a difference but not a huge difference. For me, the X2D then will be the Hasselblad champion when it comes to price versus performance.

Thank you for the informative video. I have a few questions: 1) Does the waist level viewfinder normally come with the camera? 2) The H6D 100c does not have a flip-up screen, Correct? 3) Does it have focus peaking? 4) Is there any degree of weather sealing? I have been thinking of getting one of these beauties and taking it to Callanish (Calanais) in the Outer Hebrides in April, 2025, when there will be a lunar maximum standstill that is marked by the megaliths. (Perhaps I'll see some of you medium format shooters there.) Final questions: 5) Should I buy now, or wait a year or two since the technology may advance by then? 6) In your testing of the H6D 100c, please try some nighttime shooting to test dynamic range. 7) For Callanish (Calanais) would you recommend this or the Leica S3, since weather and intermittent rain may be an issue? Thank you.

1 to 4 : no. 5 : buy only preowned. I don't like CMOS. So I recommand Hasselbald H series with CCD Sensors (H4/H5) 6 : You need LIGHT to shoot Medium Format. If you want to shoot nightime, use Small Format (24x36). Don't try to use MF as Small Format. Think different 7 : Leica S uses small sensors. My opinion is thet you may consider it more "big 24x36" than Medium Format.

Not much to add to Olivier's spot-on answers. I would actually wait a bit. I bet that Leica will bring a Leica S4 in the next 12 months, and this will be a camera with killer features. Or, alternatively, I would recommend going for a Fuji GFX 100s. The H6D is an amazing tool, but if you can wait for one to two years, new cameras will hit the market which might get close to an H6D.

Hello quick question why would you purchase the h6d if you already have the iq4 anything particular worth owning both?
@mathphotographer
@mathphotographer 2 года назад
Thanks William. The sensors of the H6D and IQ4 have a different color science. I like them both but there are scenes where I think the H6D will do better and there are scenes where I believe the IQ4 will do better. At the very end it also was an opportunity which created the temptation to buy the H6D: an almost new camera for such a competitive price tag :) In general you do not need both. And in terms of resolution the IQ4 is still superior (150MP vs 100MP). Both digital back can be shot on bodies with shift (XT for the IQ4, HTS 1.5 shift adapter for the H6D). So there is no need to have both except you are (like me) a bit obsessed by color science. Then having both can make sense if you find a pre-owned opportunity like I found. I would never have purchases the H6D in addition to my Phase One for the list price and new.
