While this is obviously a sales video it does manage to be quite informative as well, thank you for making it (and keeping it up while I imagine it in part did manage to get the car sold quite fast )
Had a manual 1.8 06 for 2 years and loved it - I have just put down a deposit on an ishift mainly because of this review (service history and other credentials are great too though)
Class video mate looking at one of these on Monday was very confused about that the gear box this has cleared everything up and put me at ease thank you
Lovely looking car. I remember seeing these 4 door Honda Civics while I was visiting England in September. We have Honda Civics here in the USA, but none like this, a 4 door hatchback.
Top video, thoroughly enjoyed sitting back and listening. My wife and I have both owned a 2006 Honda Civic saloon's since new in Australia and 10 years later they have never broken down. Have only ever had routine maintenance. I have a honda motorbike, mower & line trimmer and they're all the same - superb design and engineering. This video makes me want to buy another - well done!
Thanks for your information, I just purchased a 2008 Civic with iShift but it was a close decision to buy a 2009 Automatic model. The lower tax snd better fuel economy won me over. However many say Honda scrapped the iShift due to reliability problems (which I hope is rubbish)
Having owned an ishift for 3 days now and covering 400 miles, I must say, the auto part is useless but it is an excellent clutches manual in my opinion..the best way to drive it is combining the paddles with the stick ( being a manual driver for 10 years, I am okay with that) so the stick is good for normal changes and the paddles are good for quick changes. It is as economical and as quick as my old 1.8 manual.
@@samerabdul4169 we have bought one in February and we really liked the car... i shift makes you feel the gear transition from the first to second, but it doesn't take the joy.. here in Turkey, people usually buy 1.6 liter motors with the concern of taxes.. But this car gave me a chance to be different :)
@@mbicer thank you very much for your reply really appreciated Mehmet 😊 I have bought the car since August and was lucky as the car were dreven 33,000 miles only and very happy with the car. I Advice you to take your car to Honda dealer to update the gearbox software as I did and I noticed big difference and smoothly gear changing afterwards.
@@samerabdul4169 i ll definitely do so as soon as the outbreak lessens... i live in a small city in the middle of Anatolia, i hope they can do it :) thx for the advice.. And another point that i m glad having this car is that we became friends with the previous owner.. maybe i should ask him first if he had done the update thing..
Good. yes it's better to ask if it's been done before no need to spend money for nothing. And if you get use the car and happy with the gear changing maybe you don't need it. May Allah protect you and your family.
very helpful video. great explanation on these semiautomatic gearboxes, iShift for honda, mmt for toyota. now i have a clearer vision on these gear boxes .glad i came across this video, thanks.
Thanks for a great review, by far the best out of many I've watched! Partcularly liked your full explanation / demo of the I-shift system, I think it may well be a viable option for me. Thanks again
Thank you for this video. I was wondering if i should buy Honda Civic 8th generation Hatchback. I loved the practicality of the model during my own research. And after you have explained I-shift gearbox in details I am definitely getting such car. Cheap to maintain automatic gearbox is perfect for me.
Nicely explained ..! just I have a quick question do you feel any dip feeling (revs goes down and picks up) when gear changing in automatic mode? also when you take the foot from gas will it slows down quickly ?
Hi, could you make a video of only using the paddles on the civic 1.8, such as going though all the gears, revving the car out a bit more and a close up look at the paddle shifters. That would be a really good video. Thanks.
BMC Specialist cars Hi, BMC, I had a UK automatic driving licence my question is am i allowed to drive this i shift in UK? Your answer will be much appreciated. Thanks
Using the paddle shifts is easy but I only tend to do that on a straight road if you use attempt to use them when turning then you tend to find yourself searching the steering wheel for them because as you turn obviously the paddle shift location moves, I agree with the man doing the review that I tend to just change up or down with the gear stick.
Good looking cars inside and outside,BUT the “i-shift” semi automatic gearbox used in these was awful, one of the worst systems ever made. so bad that Honda ditched it altogether and went back to proper automatic transmission in the next Civic model. Also these cars have a very firm ride.
Just bought one of these and I love it. Agree with what you've said. Thanks for the further degree of insight. Just wondered about the lack of wiper or spray on rear window...how do you clear it?
Yeah a strange omission by Honda !! They clear with the aero effect at speed... doesn’t help when you are stationary of course and why they fitted them to the next generation civic
Yes this is a good solution but the i-shft actuator is prone to failures - they can be repaired for around £400 which is much less than an auto gearbox repair.
@@clarknicolas6780 it won't go into gear sometimes when it is about to fail. There is a weak point in the design and the UK repair shop eliminate that weak point when they repair it.
I just got a similar car on an 09 plate and mine has a sport button next to the gears. Your video made me buy this car last week so keep on doing these, as they are pretty insightful. thanks
I bought one of these which was an ex. I was informed at the time of buying by the salesman to not use the gear shift and just stick to automatic. I am curious if I should change to using the gear shift. Would this be more fuel efficient?
@@tommyzoo thank you for the response. I am driving it in London. My wife is American so only knows automatic. I love the car just wondering if the fuel efficiency is a problem. Seem to be eating fuel at the moment.
Hi, what settings do you use when you park the car? Do you have to put it in N and engage the handbrake all the time or there is another configuration when is parked? Thank you
Press the brake and it will stop flashing and be in the selected gear,it does this when the car is stopped once you select the gear and press the brake your ready to go.
Hill starts are fine if you do it exactly as you would with a manual. Just apply handbrake and give it a few revs so you can feel it take up drive and release the handbrake and give it more throttle If you are too tentative then it can judder
@@tommyzoo I’m looking for a car atm and I only learned in auto so ur telling me I can drive this and have a taste of the manual life even tho I haven’t learnt in manual ???
TheHeraclion Being front wheel drive they are relatively good Clearly winter tyres if going abroad would be recommended But they are far better than a rear wheel drive car The ishift works and feels like a manual so it’s very controllable
thank you - it's one on my list at the moment and hoping to get something that will tackle the weather here in Scotland if it's as bad as last year. I want to store my Eos for the really bad days that I hope we don't have lol
jeffrey price Inflation kit on civic as standard although you can buy a space saver spare wheel kit as there is a pre drilled hole under the compartment
Rather a biased review, how about the loud road noise due to terrible sound insulation?, how about the horrible tractor engine sound when you rev it hard? No thanks.
Racqueteer it's a matter of opinion as are all test drives Personally I do not share your thoughts on the car I find these engines very smooth and quiet in normal driving Road noise is also quite well insulated but is sensitive to tyre manufacturers None of our customers have raised these as issues But as I said mine is just an opinion and should not be taken as gospel
