Because that thing called Heian/Pinan Oyo is the simplified Kanku Dai/Sho. Originally you learned Kanku Dai/Sho or Kushanku first. Itosu broke Kanku/Kushanku in three parts and add two auditions. It born Pinan/Heian kata. AND I'm telling you NOW why you don't JUST practice Kanku/Kushanku?
@@josephmalone253 Skip NO! you need the bunkai of the heian/pinan to understand kanku/kushanku. HECK! even naihanchi/tekki shodan have the same bunkai.
Thanks for sharing! I have 1 question: What belt level does a student have to be to learn this Kata? Or is this Kata learned when one earns Black Belt?
I remember the time when I was a learning shotokan karate. I think not possible to answer your question exactly. Because when I had got only four children exam, I knew the five Heian katas, and Bassai dai also. After the 5th exam I knew Nijushiho, Tekki shodan, Jion and I think Kanku dai also. The 5th children exam means 9th kyu in JKA systeme (it's a white belt). But my friend who learned from other sensei had got 7th kyu (orange belt), and he didn't know the master katas, just Bassai dai and Kanku dai.
