We've now read 18 books of the Bible together! Some thoughts on Jonah... "Jonah and the whale" is a popular Sunday School story, but for the older reader, there's a lot of depth in this book that we shouldn't overlook. God acknowledges that Jonah is grieving and angry. It seems that he was feeling these things before God asked him to go to Nineveh, though the Bible doesn't specify what happened in Jonah's life to bring this about. More than once, Jonah wishes to die, but God won't let him. God tries to help Jonah understand the power of choosing life over death and mercy over anger.
