This video is a response to a recent article proposing that the ancient Judahites and Israelites didn't know of the Biblical prohibition against non kosher fish until after the Persian Period in Jewish history. Did the Ancient Jews keep kosher? I believe yes, and the theory being presented by the researchers is speculative and beyond what the evidence can inform. Yonatan Adler's book "The Origins of Judaism: An Archaeological-Historical Reappraisal (The Anchor Yale Bible Reference Library) " is now out, and making a big splash, so I suppose this video will get many more views and comments soon!

I don't have the book yet but now there is a video available on RU-vid "The Origins of Judaism: An Archaeological-Historical Reappraisal Lecture with Prof. Yonatan Adler" from the Sinai Temple channel where the author states his case in broad terms. Looking forward to other scholars' responses!

I don't think Yonatan Adler claimed he could date the Torah late because of the fishbones, I believe his focus is on when the practice became widely accepted.

But Why? What made the ancients make those decisions? How does a fish with a scale and tail differ from protein obtained from shrimp or fish without scales? It has to be rooted in economic and sustainability standpoints.
