I've never been a big fan of Tanto blades but your review of the SCHF17 is making me rethink that, Chris. Great video. And I'm glad you finally took a look at a Becker, I thought you would never get around to one of those ;-)
I love this show!!! This guy's has me cracking up laughing. Can't beat this show. He should be getting paid for this if he isn't already. Thumbs up all the way. Top shelf. Thanks Chris for the knife knowledge. Big fan!
You don't have to feed me but I'm staying right here in this tree till the next big bag o blades lol. Seriously, awesome vid series, the surprise review of the Schrade Tanto has convinced me to buy one. Thanks and keep em coming
Great review that knife did very well in those tests. Super excited I've been looking into buying a bush craft knife just not sure which one yet I really like the Bob you had in the beginning and the bk7 and 9 lol
Actually sir, the blade thickness on the Toos BOB is 3/16" not 1/8". I have one with thd tumble finish in 154CM stainless steel wigh G10 handles. An awsome knife to be sure. I would like it even more if the handle was just a tad wider in the palm swell area.
Vids keep getting better! I'm thrilled with my BOB and the ESEE bk9 slayer. I love guys that complain about coatings then gripe about rust. Sry couldn't help it.
I want a becky 9, I see why he trusts the knife. the question I have is the wooden mallet he used with the bushcraft to hammer through pieces of is it possible to ask, what kind of wood you recommend to create one?
Great video!! I have been a subscriber for a few months now and all the videos are awesome! I was really impressed with the SCHF17, so much so I'm ordering it from your store soon! I have a question about stripping the it though. Once you strip it using the jasco, do you put some sort of clear coating on after to protect the blade once its stripped?
I'd definitely be interested in more of a review on the schf17. After watching one of your other reviews on the schf26 or 27, I had actually been about to ask if they had anything similar, but without the recurved blade. Looks like this might be what I was looking for.
More specifically, I'm thinking of getting a knife as a gift for someone who's just starting to get into survival/prepping and doesn't own any other fixed blade. My budget for this would probably be up to around $40, but obviously still needs to be good quality or it's not worth buying at all for something like this. 2 specific questions I would have on this particular knife: 1. How good is the 8cr13mov steel for a fixed blade knife? From what I understand, it's mostly used in folding knives and fairly decent for that, but is it still good in a fixed blade? 2. Will that blood groove compromise the strength of the blade at all, especially when batoning? Looks like it didn't have any problem in the tests you did so far, but in the long run will that be an issue at all?
SkyrimHod 8cr seems to do fine. Some of the axes/hawks and choppers like the bolo are 3cr and they are doing just fine. That is 1/4" thick steel. Did you see me twisting it in that tree? Batoning isn't going to phase it.
Between the Cold Steel Pipe Hawk and the Rifleman Hawk do you have a favorite? Does one preform better than the other on tasks like chopping? (ie: your "War Hawk")
After watching a bunch of your vids, I want a bk9. I live in NY tho, not much point but u never know and i wanna go hunting soon. I'm 28 and have never been :/
Always wanted a tops bob, but for some reason I've never got one. I've gotten plenty of other blades from tops and other company's in that price range. One reason I think why is bc of the weird price range. I see one tops bob for 120 bucks on blade hq and then right below it is another tops bob for 160 bucks but they literally are exactly the same even in the colors and materials. It just doesn't make much sense to me lol.
Well, if the world ever gets filled with rabid ninja zombie flying carpets then that Schrade will become the go to blade. Seriously that looks like a great fighting survival knife. Good video Chris, sorry to see that you needed stitches; knives aren't as forgiving as wives, one mistake and they bite you!
you always have great vids, but you never let me know if you were gonna try out the Zippo hatchet with saw lol I am thinking bout gettng one and have since I saw them come out
As always great review, and dang you man, your ganna make me buy another knife, when my wife complains im ganna get her to call you. LOL, I thought is was finished buying knives for this year, but clearly not after seeing your video. Great work brother.
Tell her to get in line with all the other wives that want my head. You have to learn creative storytelling. "Honey, I traded my Tactical Beaver Blade for this!" They rarely know what you have exactly... slight of hand. Get on RU-vid and the excuses get easier. "So and so sent me this for review!"
PREPAREDMIND101 I know this is a year old, but I'm just watching this vid and reading this post....freaking funny...the man-woman dynamics are truly universal, and Chris, I agree with you....lying is the best policy, always.
I've not been through all of your blade videos, and I realize that you're not a huge TOPS fan. But, have you tested the TOPS Anaconda 11" or the Silent Hero?
That should be Anaconda 9". It was designed by the late Ron Hood bush legend. The TOPS Steel Eagle 111E is the one with the 11" blade. You tested the short version, I believe.
will the BOB chop and not chip and roll i wondered because i had a scandi knife similar to it and it chipped and rolled within the first ten chops. just wondering thanks!
The only thing that has really turned me off from the tops bob is the really stupidly aggressive gimping. I just hate gimping soo much that i didnt want to buy it. Just personal preference. So instead i bought the spyderco bushcraft. And i couldnt love a knife more than that one.
Yeah, the jimping is WAY too aggressive on the BOB. If it is still that way when the new uncoated one comes out the first thing I'm going to do is dull them down with an abrasive belt.
K but i am not really in need of a knife Now lol. But that is probably still a good tool to own for many other purposes. I was sort of saying that i was having a debate on which bushcraft knife i should get either the bob or the sypderco bushcraft and the reason i didnt choose the bob was just because of that stupid gimping and the black coating (but of course i know i can strip it) i decided to get the spyderco bushcraft because to me it was it didnt need any mods and was perfect for what i needed.
Ok man I love your vids but I just have to vent a little. Would you please just tell everyone batoning wood is all hype! You hardly ever really never need to do it in real life. Why? When you make a camp fire the one thing you want is for the fire to last a long time. You don't want to have to keep feeding wood to your fire every damn hour. Batoning wood takes a big log. ( which will burn slow) to small sticks of wood that will burn faster. Right? I've made hundreds of camp fire and I've never batoned my camp wood to small chunks because there is always branches of wood the size I need to start a fire. That would be the only reason ever to even baton wood down in size just to start the fire. After the fire is going you Want large chunks of wood to maintain the fire for long term right? Every knife/ survival expert talks and shows how well there knife batons wood. Maybe in the off chance all the wood is wet you would need to baton a large piece of wood to get to the dry inside wood but that's a rare instance. But nobody ever says this I wish you would just once. Thanks
I do it just to have another strength/edge holding test and because I got tired of people complaining that I never did it. I use the method a lot. For lots of reasons but often for like you said: it's wet out. In a recent video I made a deadfall and needed a straight trigger stick that was perfect. I ended up batoning to get one from the middle of the wood. You don't HAVE to baton wood but it does make a good fire stronger faster.
