In my late 60's, i remember all these cars. Nothing today compares to the simplicity, reliability, durability al the while being highly modifiable. Great overview!!!
As to the “smell”, I had a 66 Sport Coupe, bench seat factory 4 speed car in the late 70’s, and like so many of us, let it go. Took the engine and trans out to put in a 68 El Camino ( that I also don’t have anymore!) The Nova would re-appear from time to time over the years in various stages of restoration. I think it was about 15 years ago we saw one for sale out in front of a guys house, so we stopped to look at it. And by golly, it was my old car, that I sold for $400 without the power train years before. He was asking 20k. Nicely restored, but an automatic trans. I waved my wife over to have a look, she stuck her head in the door, took a peak. When we drove away she said “ I could tell it was your old car. It still smells like gas inside”!
My 75 year old friend and engine builder had one of these exact cars. He street raced a lot of BBC vettes and hemi cars in the 60's and beat them all.....these cars were the real deal back then.
Surprised it still has a factory shifter. Every one in the day said they were bad. You would expect people to cave at some point to new part-itis. Well I guess the whole car fits the mode of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” Very cool!
I had a 65 with a 327 in it, it had the original rear end which was 4:11, it would run 12.9 on the quarter mile with street tires with a power glide transmission
My '69 Camaro I got when I was about 17 years old in about 1982 had a 327 in it. My Dad taught me how to rebuild an engine using that 327. It was a damn good engine!
Another outrageous find Dezzy...I came close to buying one of these in 1980...I passed because the guy wanted $1500.00 and wouldn't budge...Live-n-learn...In 1984 I traded a VCR for a 66 Nova wagon with a factory 327,SCARY!
The absolute best looking Chevy two SS My friend little duce had a 327-365hp mill He had Lee Edwards do some funny things to the engine Had all Vette running gear And nothing but 260 Sunoco went Into the tank That little Duce was among the top dogs in the quarter mile What a great time to have lived in
The 1966 and the 1967 Chevy II Nova's in that 2 door hardtop body style are so SAA-WEEEET and SEXY as can be! Absolutely an amazing little car. ✌️😎👍COOL Bro!
Headers on these 327 paided off big time, The factory exhaust manifold is so restrictive and the headers will bring out alot more HP. I just love the little HP 327 and the sound. Thanks
@@DezzysSpeedShop exactly... I've never been impressed with the 302. It's never had the RPM range of the 327. We always considered the 327 the quarter mile engine and the 283 the street light to street light engine. I guess that's an eighth mile.
One more thing who ever thought that a Z 28 with a 302 was faster than a Nova L79 doesn't have a clue, Leonard . I blew away Z 28's by six cars and that includes 69 Z,'s with phase 2... I never loss a street race and that includes Hemi's... I also had a 15 page driving record.....😢

I own an original 1966 L79 Nova. They were an option from the factory. Over 5000 were ordered and installed that way from the factory. Not the dealer. The 327 emblem is missing on the fender. The wheel covers in the trunk are 1965 Chevelle. Nova SS are black and not red on the spinners.
I had 2 of them at one time in 1979 , gave $700 for the first one and $300 for the second one , 1st one had been converted to a 400 turbo auto , still ran way faster than it would stop , 2nd one was a parts car without an engine and tranny , but the 12 bolt had been upgraded with 456 gears and summers brothers axles, still have a factory 4spd center console in storage , been offered a bunch of money for it , cant bring myself to sell it for any amount . These 2 cars were my first cars , still have some emblems as well
My dad had a red '66 Nova SS that he always said he replaced the engine with the L76 corvette engine, and apparently he said he was the fastest in the OKC area during that time He always told me he twisted 2 driveshafts with that car... I've ran into people from that era that remember his Nova running the streets back then, ha.. Wish i could have lived back in that time period.. Everybody driving around Musclecars thru the fastfood drivethru hangouts and stuff.. Wish I had a '66 Nova
realy nice find what makes this so special. original black cars there body panels are hand selected to near perfection. in order to wear a black paint. from factory.
L79 cars were known to be the BB killers back in the day. Those Novas are light! Car has everything you need and nothin you dont! Father bought a bright blue wagon version of that 2 yrs before I was born... Only thing id do is put a 2 pot brake reservoir on there just in case. Nice find man!
My cousin had a 66ss with the 350. Some head and carb work and it would pull the wheels hitting 2nd gear. 373 rear end would top 150 mph. After that the front end started floating.
Looks exactly like the one my brother ordered new.He ordered it with maroon interior but was sent red instead. Sold to another brother who had it for decades ,always seat covers to preserve the interior.
My dad had an AutoShop when I was in high school, and one of his prize possessions wit was a 67 Nova coupe. We restored it back to factory. With a 194 straight with th an oftenowser intake manafold and headers. It was a little hot rod that little six hundred would get down the road. Load Nova's of that particular era were extremely simple, very basic automobile. Which you could do so much to.
I had a brand new 66 SS Nova in high school. Marina blue with black interior ,4spd,Hurst,American wheels shifter, wheelwell headers and 4:56 gears. Not many cars could keep up with her. Sadly I had to let her go when I went to art school. 3 to 12 mpg, it was hard to afford to drive back then. I don't doubt that the black car is the real thing but where are the 327's above the V8's on front fender. It should have 137 on the Vin. I have other collectible cars but I would love to have my dream car back...👍👍
My dad always got poverty caps on his Olds 442’s….flash doesn’t add horsepower….another awesome car was the 70 Nova with LT1….370 hp in Corvette…360 in Camaro and Nova…..Nova was lighter than Camaro….what a sleeper…like 65 Chevrolet Biscayne….427…known as Bisquick…🤣🤣
That's exactly the engine that is long gone from my '66 vette and I'm torn indeed about building an L-79 myself, building out the 350 that's in it better...or buying a 377 long block. What a great problem I have LOL
THIS IS THE SISTER CAR OF THE 66 - 67 CHEVELLE MALIBU , A SHORTER VERSION , THE L - 79 OPTION WAS BRUTAL IN THIS CAR , RELIABLE & SPORTY IN ONE PACKAGE !!! WITH A SOLID LIFTER CAM ITS GONNA REV !!!
@@DezzysSpeedShop THE DODGE DART GTS 383 WITH A 4 - SPEED , 4: 10 : 1 , MUSTANG FASTBACK 390 , 428 , 67 CAMARO 302 Z - 28 DUAL CROSSRAM , 67 BARRACUDA 383 WERE ALL IN COMPANY AS FAR AS COMPETITION WAS CONCERNED !!! 69 CUDA 440 WAS A STOPLIGHT NIGHTMARE !!!
I love my 66 Nova. This looks like a nice one, but all the 66&67 Nova SD I saw bake in the day had factory Hooker headers. They also made 5 with a 365 HP 327. 4 of them were SS's and 1 Chevy 11. I had the one Chevy 11 and didn't know what I had until after I sold it. Not to burst there bubble but I never had a stock 396 that could beat my Nova.
I was in rogersville Alabama this dude had one like just like this looks like the same car and we ran a 69 Camaro built to the health we held them off until 3rd gear
I reember these L79 cars very rare but quite fast, I could have bougjt one but I was a struggling kid about to get drafted into Nixons Army, and could not afforf the payments.
