Will the Big Blue Solar Panel be any good for Bikepacking?! Let's find out!
I will be testing this Solar Panel extensively this summer. My hopes are that it will be a big help with keeping my electronics charged up.
Initial impressions are positive but only time will tell. Stay tuned as I will be doing updates as the season progresses and I put the Big Blue Solar Panel the paces.

Pleaeaeaeaese Dean, let me know as soon as possible when you have your "final" impression with this BigBue - 28W, based on real use, especially on bumpy terrain! I try to be as self-sufficient as possible, and only want to stop at places that interest me, not because I need to recharge AGAIN. Thank you!!!

These things are nice but you need to understand a few things. 1) when he says 28watts that's the theoretical maximum. In bright sun you might only get 1/2 of that. On a cloudy day it can drop to a couple watts. 2) Buy the biggest thing you can, its all about output. 3) Don't expect miracles, with a low output long charging times and it might not charge at all. Some phones wont even charge till the input is high enough. 3) Don't waste your money are you willing to wait and wait and wait for your phone to charge?.

Hi Willem. I will be doing a thorough testing of the panel when I leave Windsor to do the BT700 on June 9thand I will be touring for 3 weeks in some pretty rough conditions at times. I have been using the panel here at home to see how it works, and it seems to work great. But I will wait until after I am home from the BT700 tour to do a proper review. Keep a eye out as I may do a couple Shorts videos about the panel while doing the BT700. Take good care

@willemventerink9093 the panel works pretty good but it's definitely to big to use while riding in my opinion. There are really good powerbanks available that are far more effective than solar in the long run. I'll be doing a video about the solar panel in the future. Safe travels my friend. Cheers 🍻

Would like to see if you can lash the panels across your rear panniers on a trip to charge your power banks...but that would depend on its water resistance rating.

Hi Steve. Yes I will be using them on my rear panniers and I will be posting videos going forward on how they work out. As for water resistance. I'm not sure if that's something that is a concern, not to be a smart ass but if it's raining it's also probably not sunny out so solar panel would be in pannier bag. Thanks for watching. Cheers

Thanks for the first impressions of this solar panel. I have the same or previous model of this panel and it worked well for me on my cross Canada trip. I did end up sending it home, due to lack of sun and the weight of the panel. If there's no sun, the panel was just added weight. But when the sun was out, this panel was brilliant. Perfect for bike touring.

@@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures we looked at a few systems last year, but in the end did not purchase anything. This product look really good for an affordable price. In BC it was difficult to find an outlet to charge. We have four battery banks between us, but at times it was tight on power to keep our devices charged. This Solar system would be perfect. Again, ALWAYS great information here.

I have the same panel. Been using it for a year and it has done well. I heard the negative reviews as well but with solar as you said it's spotty. I secure mine to my rear pannier top bag and charge my power packs up. When I'm hiking it's attached to my hiking bag for the same purpose.

Hello, a question. I I heard that all 4 panels must be opened to make the entire panel start charging... While driving, sunlight cannot possibly reach all panels. Has that never been a problem? Thank you!
