It's time for year 3 of Big Book Reading! This challenge has been the only thing to get me through some of my most intimidating reads. So let's talk about how I did with last year's prompts and what I'm thinking for this year's prompts. Thank you to Carina for creating this challenge! Her Instagram is time4reading

I remember absolutely loving The Little Friend. I can only really recall one scene now but I just know I loved it for some reason. The Donna Tartt I need to get to is The Goldfinch. So many big books! 📚

So many good choices! I tried to read Girl With the Dragon Tattoo around the time it first came out and just couldn't get into it either. Then a few years later, my sister-in-law told me you have to give it about 75 pages and then it hooks you. So eventually, I tried it again and pushed through the first 75 pages and she was right. Around that point it hooked me and then I blew through the whole trilogy and loved it.

I loved midnights children and a fine balance - I can still picture where I was and how old I was when I read them. I love these kinds of challenges and I also make up those kinds of rules for myself 😂 I need to look at which big books I have too...

I do too! This is the year long (without something happening month to month) challenge I actually reliably do lol

You got me doing this last year. I only accomplished the translated book and an award winning book, but I’m still gonna try again this year.

Awesome! Any amount of big books is an accomplishment 😂

I’m participating in this challenge too! And I think the books I’m most excited to read (partly because I haven’t seen much about them) are Anathem by Neal Stephenson for the new to you prompt (because it’ll be my first book from this author) and Plutarch’s “Lives of the Philosophers” for the book that will stretch you.

Yay! I haven't read a Stephenson either, but I feel like a lot of people love his books. You'll have to let me know how it goes!

So many books in common for 2024 plans! • Infinite Jest • The Little Friend • Lincoln Highway (currently reading and can confirm it’s better than expected. I’ve read the other two and Moscow is a favorite all time book-I waited too long to start Lincoln! It’s great!) • A Little Life I’ve kicked Moby Dick down the road for years. Why stop now? xD.

Great to hear about Lincoln Highway! And I actually just got a great review of Moby Dick from someone that made me very slightly less terrified to read it haha

The Lincoln Highway is an all-time favorite of mine and feels a lot shorter than it is IMO! Happy reading!

For real 😂 and maybe I've changed enough that I can actually read Little Friend haha

Audio book for Infinite Jest is a good option

That's a good idea! I would likely do that for at least part of the book lol

So many books on here that I also want to read but am intimidated by lol. The big books haunting my shelf right now are The Grapes of Wrath, Killing Commendatore, Flights, and The Poisonwood Bible. I think I can fit each of them into one of the prompts so maybe I’ll join the challenge :)

You should! It's a lot of fun and definitely helps to finally tackle some of those huge books haha

Way of Kings isn’t hard to follow - it’s just an intense character- world building book setting up all the glorious Stormlight goodness that follows and book five IS coming!

Good to know! And it seems like Brandon Sanderson is a super reliable author in terms of continuing to write and finishing stuff 😂

I happened to read about the synopsis of that book right after filming this video and it sounds really good!

I’ve recommended The Name of the Wind to so many people but I really don’t suggest you read it. I love the story, I love the writing, but I no longer believe that Pat Rothfuss is ever going to finish the series. If I’m proven wrong on that, I’ll start recommending his books again.

That's what I've heard lol I'll just be quietly hoping he finishes it even though I haven't read anything haha
