The first time I heard Jannis sing was in 1968 , I was riding in a 1959 Cadillac coupe Deville ! With the first tape deck that I ever heard ! Wow She sounded great ! Later that year I went to a concert at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds and saw Her in person , I was up front just a few feet from Her ! What a performance 👏 .

I grew up five miles from where Janis grew up. I'm 63 and just recently started viewing all of her videos on RU-vid. After 50 years I'm finally realizing what an amazing talent she really was. There will never be another like her.

The harmony w Big Brother and the Holding Company's unbearably expressive nd painful feeling is so incredible it hurts too much! I was so lucky they played at ucd dances often, and I and friends saw them at Fillmore East later. But here I hear the instruments clearer and the grief in the song. I love Big Brother n the Holding Co. and Kozmic Blues Band and others. Whenever I would come home after braving the snobs of North Berkeley to buy food, I put on the record and say, "They probably wouldn't like her either" and I heard Sunroof Cadillac on the radio.

There was no one who could touch the talent Janis had. And no ever will. Simply incredible. She was at her best with Big Brother. My mom saw this incredible band at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967.

There have been a lot of great - REALLY GREAT female blues artists such as Bonnie Raiit, Bessie Smith, Dinah Wasington, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and others, but nobody has ever risen above Janis Joplin. When she sang it was as if her soul came out of her vocal cords to embelish our ears. Those who were able to hear her sing live were very, very fortunate.

Breathless...speechless..nearly in tears. She left her heart as well as her soul on the floor. I've loved Janis since the early 70's. Somehow I missed this version of Ball and Chain till now. Scuse me while I pick my own heart and soul up off the floor.

On February 19, 1967 at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, California Big Brother and the Holding Company shared the night with Jefferson Airplane. Grace Slick,Marty Balin, Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady and Paul Kantner put on a great show, but Big Brother and the Holding Company blew them away: it was like a firecracker compared to an M80. Standing right at the foot of the stage was a great place for me to experience both groups, and when Janis exploded with that voice, and James Gurley played notes that didn't exist anywhere else, what a phenomenon! That there is footage of Big Brother and the Holding Company is great for music history. That a new generation is hearing this group and liking them is great! Get your hands on the early LPs if you can.

I have read the comments. Every song on pearl was my favorite, the last song buried alive in the blues she had no vocals. I was a teenager and I remember hearing piece of my heart. I was only 12. She blew me away. I can't forget her. Her town treated her so bad. I loved her.
