Of course they do. ... it's timeless . It must have been a very special time to live in, surrounded by all that great music, that constantly was made , in a relatively short time by so Many different people, of which all had their own unique sound. and in that quality, also ??
There was a singer at the same time named Candi Staton. Listen to her and learn what real singing is. You won't recognize why there's no comparison probably.
Great performance by Janis and Big Brother, I'm 99.9% sure, however, it's from a local San Francisco TV appearance in April 1967, *not* Aug. 1968, as stated above.
Laureen Zed - That would be correct... The dynamic of the group changed gradually yet drastically even between this and August of 67... This was before Monterey in June and the release of their first Album in August. That album did fairly well but even after Monterey they were still mainly a San Fran band and had to cut their teeth on the East Coast in 68. It was the promoters and Grossman who started promoting her over the other members on their 68 East Coast Tour... Even though both albums she did with Big Brother & The Holding Company did not feature her as Janis Joplin and Big Brother, etc.
Well, we can see why Janis was the star of the show. BTW, I really like Big Brother and the Holding Company--such a cool vibe--with Janis, it was a perfect fit.
Great performance of this song live. I find it interesting though that only Janis sang this certain song on their first album. Which makes me wonder if producer advised it. Which was probably the beginning of the end for Big Brother and Janis as a group?
My daydream fantasy is that Janis stuck around as the secret weapon of BBHC while she carefully launched a solo career. All that pressure off of her might have kept her and the band alive
My friend dances to this - she's a ballet and contemporary dancer :) and yes that OMG moment! 8K views - is that all! This is a classic. If more people watched this then we would't get rubbish like Kanye and Taylor. Think about it, music, notes, tune.
@@1223jamez funny-the guy. James Gurley godfather of psychedelic guitar according to Barry Melton (and many others) who is not too shabby w a guitar himself
Very pretty. In black and white she looks like she could be a red head. Then she gained weight in 68 then she looked great in 69 and earlier in 1970 until alcoholic bloat concealed her unique prettiness. Obviously I’ve read and seen lots of videos and photos of my gal.
Janis Joplin - Vocals and maracas Sam Andrew - Lead and rhythm guitar James Gurley - Lead and rhyhm guitar, first vocal Peter Albin - Bass, vocals Dave Getz - Drums
That woman is my biological mother & yes I have her voice. As a music student in college digital analog detected absolutely zero difference in tone pitch & annunciation. Tucked away for her moment of fame, Monterey Pop Fest. There is not one single thing in 11 yrs now of research that does NOt add up. Jerry’s fans adore me & wish me the best w DNA court. Huh Joplin fans curse me would often times like to kill me & her siblings know all about me & want me dead too. WHY? Just so everyone can continue to say there will NEVER be another like her ever. SORRY TOO DAMNED LATE FOR THAT!!! In fact I have her EXACT rare blood type & 26 direct relative on my Me & 23 DNA results. 3 lab test & 2 were at Corpus Christi Texas A&M with the best geneticist that existed in 2018. I spent 6 yrs away from my grown sons & only grand daughter that is identical to her. Yep my son’s look like Jerry Garcia & no one is mad about it. You bet I will be in Cali for court Vs State of California. I’m the one, I’m the one!!! Born Siamese twins from Garcia’s acid testing. Google results of acid testing... human fetal mutation. Now how in the hell would Jerry had known that? Go figure peeps. Go on & call me a liar but a personal friend of Garcia’s told me EVERYTHING
she should have stuck with the band . No matter how Garage they sounded . She shouldn't have tried to bite off more than she could chew But the band also should have put their foot down when the spotlight became more on Janis . As it was Big Brother first before janis .. Great Band such a mess towards the end
