Big catch of red fish hauled on board a freezing trawler in Iceland waters. Documentary of fishing in Iceland deep sea in the North Atlantic. This is an original recording of 3/18/2008 by Birgir Runar Saemundsson
Very good method, maybe like this our kids will never know what a fish is in just a decade or two! If that is the plan, we are heading on the right direction.
It was cool watching 4 or 5 of the 50,000,000 fish escape at the last moment, through gaps in the net. "Hahaha! Bro, I be free! FREEEEE! I'll say hi to your wife." "You bitch! lucky ass... now we are cat food."
david beckenbaugh Ah well, I like to pretend they escaped, but you're probably right. I hope these aren't the somewhat endangered "Orange Roughy" fish - there are a half dozen ocean food fish called "red fish" in the industry.
KurtB I was thinking they were what a lot of people call "red snapper" which is just about any red colored bottom fish.... In Washington State, we carry a device to release the fish a hundred feet down or so to help the swim bladder collapse. Sad to see the fish fall out and die, but gill nets are far worse than purse seines. And a hungry world needs to eat... Peace to you, Kurt...
david beckenbaugh Thanks for the reply... I am no Gaia tree hugger, but I do think smart, sustainable fisheries are important. Atlantic cod comes to mind.
KurtB They have shot the cod down pretty good, eh? I re-read my post and "device" got changed to "vice". Sorry. Auto-correct. Yes, an intelligent conversation on the pro's and con's of things is so much more pleasant. So, what do you think of the GB Packers this year? :)
Once upon a time I used to go sea fishing and dangle a rod in sea hoping to catch my tea hmmm not so easy now! I wonder why And this is progress ! Thank the lord I was born in a era of respectfulness and people were not so greedy and were happy with there lot in life. I feel sorry for the youngsters who have to inherit this new better world.
overfishing is only one reason our oceans are dying. This kind of fishing is against any sustainable method of living within the boundaries of this planets resources.
Oceans are dying? where did you get that from? 92% of the worlds fish stocks are fished sustainably. The other 8% are fished by nations with very poor economy's and therefore cannot spend money on protecting the stocks around their coasts. Look at the data - you will see that since the 1990's almost every stock of fish on the planet has been increasing significantly in size. Dont beleive the bullshit from the WWF and Greenpeace, they only want your dollars. their not interested in facts.
yeah right and people can survive without air, Adam Simjee. it's proven that fish can feel pain, they have a quite complex nerve system, these fish are first crushed in a net, then they are pulled out of there habitat, tossed on deck, stepped on and then they get sweeped of the deck like they are some sort of dirt, ohw yeah and I forgot, meanwhile they are struggling for oxygen which they can barely get from the air. It can take up to a couple of hours for some fish to die. Inhumane does not cover this it's mass murder with an utmost disregard for life, because that is what those fish are living animals. If we would treat cows and pigs like this when they go to the slaughterhouse animal protection agencies would scream out for it to end, unfortunately for the fish they do not posses a petting factor so these horrors go unnoticed by the general public. I hope you refrain yourself from stupid rants in the future that fish can't feel pain and they do not deserve our respect even when we eat them.
Oh ya that's gonna put food on my table and kids thru college. Iv been doing this 12 years and believe me. Our waters are very regulated on areas you can fish and can't fish. Your comment would cause so many families to suffer including mine.
Boa tarde.
+Thomas H Thank you Thomas. I am just a hobby guy. I am thoug trying to buy a better Camcorder Pro HD or 4K. Happens next days to be ready for summer time. Some very interesting videos will be coming out in summer and autumn. "Smashing" :-)
Pause at 9:47 and at the very top left corner you'll spot a fish who almost hot through the net but is getting its eyes popped out of its skull. What a way to go.
It eyes are popped out not from the net but from the pressure change coming from the bottom or near the ascending up to the surface. Nearly all fish have a swim bladder along it's belly to allow neutral buoyancy. As it leaves the bottom the water pressure lessens and the gas in the bladder expands pushing outwards causing eyes to pop like you see. No it's probably not a pleasant way to end life. If that fish or any brought up from deeper water were to get out that net or thrown back for whatever reason it would helplessly flop at the surface because of expanded gas in bladder. I ve never been on a factory ship like this but did fish from my much smaller pleasure fishing center console. The fish we incidentally caught or ones not legal we had a small diameter needle that we inserted in th belly just enough to deflate the bladder and the fish returned could swim back down. This causes no harm and in a couple of days it's bladder is refilled normally. Factory ships like this and other commercial fishing ships may not appear humane and do take vast amounts of fish from the ocean but are the only economical feasible manner to feed the population. Bon appetite.
How is this legal? Wiping out entire eco systems, literally every living organism. They’ll probably destroy/wasting 70-90% of what they pillaged. How is that efficient?? Fishing should be done sustainably w conservation principles. This is ravaging our precious marine resources.
+TheNewEraHasBegun i'm glad people like you didn't, i can't imagine people like you in selfish fishing method. besides, other percentage of fish are and can be poisonous. BITCH!
One catch of this is one hundred years catch of entire traditional fishermen of our town in the Philippines. Hope the Ocean's resources will not be depleted and the species can grow and spawn billions of them more than they are catch.
They've been catching massive catches of northern red fish in Iceland and Newfoundland for almost a hundred years as you see there are still plenty of fish in 🌊 and they haven't been catchin anything in your backyard stay out of the fisherman's way stay in your own lane
A V I nigga And you still eat it this is Commercial fishing Notgung is wrong I can get When some use bad Techniques and Unumane stuff But this isn’t necessary
Carlos T most people get mad only when they see it though. I have never seen anyone attack another person because they have cats and dogs that they feed animal products. Its not like they harvest those fish and then throw them away, people and animals have to eat. Also, it goes without saying that people should be harvesting our resources more responsibly, I'm merely commenting on the fact that first world people become uncomfortable when confronted with the truth about their food. It's a social commentary.
Tim's Tanks Good points but I mostly eat beef, chicken, shame we are ruining much of those sources as well, with hormones, drugs etc.. since we cant slow down population growth. Were doomed either way I guess lol. Ahwell :) TC Tim Im out for the night
You are marvel at this sustenance.. This is the work of God Almighty, the Creator of the universe, and nothing is missing from His possession.. Do not forget that God created us to test us in following the call of the prophets, and know that the Prophet Muhammad was the last of the prophets and the Holy Qur’an is full of scientific miracles
most of the time they are dead as they reach the surface, or on its way to it, because they are fishing deep down and as they pull it up there is a huge difference in pressure in short time and dont forget the weight on them(they are all pressed together)
+HardtechnoVictim that must truly be awful, actually. I mean yeah they're just fish... But the way you put it... As it really happens, made my thrill not so grand. Oh well. I'm okay though. And I still think this is a brill video
As recreational fishermen we have to follow strict size limits...both minimum size and maximum size for some fish. I don't see how that really occurs here.
Benjamin Poole its unrealistic so the rules don't apply to trollers in most countries so sad you wonder why seals are starving bears are starving whales or starving 50% of this will never be purchased and be discarded into the trash😪😪😪😪
@@dadscavaliers642 seals n whales are starving n bears too? Come on now this sounds absolutely ignorant.. I'm so for sustainable fishing n I don't like waste..I don't waste anything.. But I don't think wildlife are starving. I think only the strongest survive just the way God intended it to be
ISSO NÃO É PESCA, É UM ATAQUE A NATUREZA, DEUS ABENÇOA O HOMEM, DA A FARTURA PARA SUA ALIMENTAÇÃO. E VEM OS PREDADORES MERCENÁRIOS E FAZEM ISSO. DEPOIS QUANDO A FATURA CHEGAR? DEUS É RUIM.
What kind of fish is this...? And what is the process of this collection... my Dad & Uncles would have loved this! Do the netted fish go down into a water tank under the deck...?
This is horrific. These factory ships must be banned, most of the fish caught are juveniles, this is not sustainable fishing, a ban on these boats would improve fish stocks and make small boats profitable and the seas healthy.
That’s where we get our food on a commercial scale. How do you think our food arrives to your local grocery store????? Not sure why so many people are upset here. Not trying to be difficult but that’s reality. Of course I don’t know the country this was filmed but most international fishing and harvest rates are regulated by our governments. That’s just fishing on a large scale.
