I literally was bawling during the time of saying goodbye to Maddie. But total respect to you. We have dairy sensitivities here. We cannot eat due to many reasons. And you have to change and go with the flow of where your family needs lie and where the Lord leads. You. Bless you and your family.

@@morethanfarmers Don't feel so bad about it. Only about 40% of people worldwide do actually have the gene the allows them to digest lactose into adulthood. And thanks to modern medicine, we basically stopped natural evolution, so we'll never have a fully non-lactose intolerant population. Sadness or not, that was the best decision for everybody involved...

It was a tough decision to make. What I took away from this video is how devoted you all are to each other, and seeing what you are willing to give up (even when your heart is breaking a little) just so you all can thrive in good health. It is good she is not far away so you can visit her, and also good you can still receive fresh milk. I look forward to watching this next chapter in your homesteading journey. ❤

When my son started to show interest in helping when he was 3 we decided our dairy cow was just a bit to wild for him to he around (although I loved her!!) I sold our cow to a wonderful couple a few hours away who send me updates any chance they can. We now own an ADGA registered herd of nubian dairy goats and my son is in heaven! I get just over a gallon of milk a day now and that's more than enough for us. You will find what works best for your family over time.

I am so glad I found your channel been watching videos all day, and half of the morning. I have a sleeping disorder and it takes me a very long time to fall asleep sleep at night and sometimes I don’t go to sleep. But I have so enjoyed watching you and your family work your farm, I watch this video with tears in my eyes seeing just how much you all are attached to your animals and it just shows the care you take in raising them and giving them the best life there is. I I m planting my fall garden, and I had winter greens in my garden in January. They were so wonderfully delicious.

Late to the video, but I love the maturity and perspective shown. We discovered my oldest son has a very severe dairy intolerance (MPIES) at just a couple months old. He can’t have even a tiny amount in any capacity. There was a chance that he would grow out of it, but he failed his last “test”, so the chances are extremely slim now. He also has celiac disease which we discovered at 3 1/2. We only cook meals that everyone in the family can eat, so we eat very much dairy and gluten free. I struggled for a while with the disappointment and loss of use of butter, but it is what it is. Bless your family’s journey.

Hi Michelle I can certainly relate to you on your dairy allergies. I have been dairy free since 2017 due to my own health issues I had. I can say my body is healthy and I no longer have stomach problems. It sounds like God's plan is working for Codi to still get the dairy he loves from Maddie 😊. I love the cold frame that Codi built. Happened upon this vid while scrolling through vids tonight. When I read the title. I figured that is was about your cow going to a different home. I have seen or read where so many Homesteaders go head strong for a period of time then things change. IMO the family cow is the heart of the homestead. I am celebrating my 50th year dealing with little and standard Jersey cows. They are a way of life. You have to base so much of your life around the cows. I have lived that. I also know that is is hard to see them leave the farm. Happy to know that you can still get some milk from her.. I hope she works out at her new home. I wish you and your family the best. T

Giving up the things that makes us sick is hard. I have 15 known food allergies and they make me sick and it’s usually half of my garden! 😅 I plant and grow them now not for me but for family and friends. I also have to wear gloves that go up my arms when I pick tomatoes or I break out. I hope that everyone adjusts well with the change! It’s hard breaking giving up the things you love or even something you love to change for your body to feel healthy. I’ll have you in my prayers ❤️🙏🏻

When I was growing up my father and mother took us for a ride in a rural area where they raised cows and get fresh milk but when my father lost his car and job we weren’t able to go there to get fresh cows milk, I missed it and I can relate to this. Take care and I think sheep milk or goats are good as well. I’m lactose but when I add milk to anything it’s totally different, I don’t know my stomach is feeling different when I drink milk straight. Take care 🙏🏻❤️😊👩‍🌾

I fully relate to this. When I had to take a step back and realize I just couldn’t justify breeding hogs anymore as there were other avenues to venture to that just made sense. I was heart broken. I loved drinking my coffee with the sows in the mornings. Or as I liked to call them “my ladies “. Keeping a close eye on piglets and the new Mamas. It was a big part of our business on our organic farm. The day I loaded the last sow, I was mess. To be honest the farm felt foreign the next day. Somehow silent even with the cattle and chickens. That was almost a decade ago. I still drink my coffee in the pasture that was theirs. This fall I plan to raise a few hogs for us. I’m excited ❤🎉 Just keep this in your heart. That won’t be your last cow. Someday you’ll get to do this again. The reasons will be different, but man your heart will be full!

Omg the sadness is real. What a huge and heart wrenching decision even though it was the rt one for your family. I cried too. I wanted to share Jessica Sower from Roots and Refuge farm (RU-vid Homesteader) because she recently go goats…I know you said sheep, but she has a lot of experience and I’m sure contacts that may help in your research. She also cannot drink cows milk and she loves milking her goats and goats cream in her coffee. Check her out. Also, thank you for the time both of you take to explain, show, share, and edit beautifully with dots of funny. I look forward to your videos.

Dairy allergies stink! I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. I’m glad you found a nice home for Maddie. She’s a sweetheart! ❤ and yes I’m another one sitting here crying. 😭

How sad. Even the pup was watching her leave. She has been a good girl for you, and you loved her well.

I didn’t think I would cry but I was wrong. Bye bye Maddie. I pray her new owner loves on her as much as you guys did. Great life for a cow. ❤ food intolerance & allergies are scary and can get worse at any time. So I’m glad you are taking this seriously for your families well being.

I can fully understand the pain of getting rid of a beloved animal. I hear what you are saying about dairy allergies and have people I know who struggle with digestive issues as well. I am going to ask you to look into A2A2 certified milk. I have done my research and have talked to people who it has really helped. Something to research and talk with a nutritionist. Best of luck.

The milk from our cow was A2/A2. Appreciate the advice though.😊

my heart hurts for you, I learned milking basics watching you milk Maddie. I pray you get through this time of adjustment quickly. What a blessing to be able to still enjoy her milk. Peace and love.

Tears! I know it was a difficult decision for you all. We have a dairy cow and I can't imagine not having our Cece girl! My biggest worry would be finding someone who would take care of her as well as we do. It sounds like you found that. And what a blessing to still receive her milk! Good bye, Maddie!

Aww, I'm sorry to see Maddie go. My first thought was what about Kodi's chocolate milk fix, but when i heard you can get milk from her without having to do all the work and she went to someone who will take great care of her, it all worked out. No sense having a cow if most of you can't have dairy. Sheep are lots of fun.
