I grew up watching these guys my entire childhood. I moved to Tampa Bay Florida and have meet Bob Wells twice. What a kind, professional and just wonderful man.
Big Chuck and Hoolihan was on every Friday night, and I rarely missed a single show. They showed monster movies and Sci Fi films. At commercial breaks, they did awesome skits. Some of the great skits were, The Streak, Ahab the Arab, the $6 man, Guitarzan, all the certain ethnic man skits, all the pizza eating contests and so many more. At times, they would have guest appearances to make the skits even better. The show later became, Big Chuck and Little John, as Hoolihan moved on to other things. We always looked forward to Friday nights, as these guys were fantastic. Great way to grow up in Cleveland!!!
A little trivia...the monkey was played by Ron Sweed, who would a couple of years later become the Ghoul on WKBF TV 61 (now WQHS - a Univision station) At the time of the skit, Sweed was a production assistant for H & BC while going to college at Bowling Green. He actually wore the monkey suit years earlier to a Ghoulardi appearance (to get his attention), Ghoulardi brought him up on stage, was a hit with the crowd, and Sweed would soon after become Ghoulardi's (Ernie Anderson) assistant, which carried over to H & BC
Oh the memories of this show. I busted up laughing every time Jane would swing in and knock Tarzan off his feet- then the monkey followed doing the same thing. And the way they danced- priceless / hilarious. Such a classic tv show and skit way back in the early 70's . / part of my childhood. The song is so cool too! Houlihan was great in this as well. He was our weatherman for some time too on tv. Thanks for posting this video, I needed a good laugh.
Big Chuck and Houoihan were so popular in Cleveland on Friday nights, they crushed the Tonight Show in the ratings. That's no small task !!! If you grew up in the 60's and 70's in NE Ohio, this was a great way to spend a Friday night at home....with The Kielbasi Kid, Ben Crazy, Mary Hartski, and "Mushmouth" Mariano Pacetti the king of pizza eating,
I use to watch this show every Friday night as a kid. missed watching it when I moved to Indiana in 1979. Still my favorite version of this skit to this song. Love them guys!
+ezmonie67 It was just as well because in 1979,Little John Rinaldi replaced Hoolihan as Chuck's partner. Hoolihan and Big Chuck lasted 12 1/2 years and, believe it or not,Big Chuck and Little John lasted over twice as long.
My favorite show as a kid growing up in Cleveland. Greatly missed the show when we moved to Tennessee in 1976. I will never forget there version of Guitarzan and the one they did for Ahab the Arab too. Great times and great memories.
That's great, as I watched them every Friday night. We moved to Atlanta in 79, but I never forgot the great skits that these guys did. The Streak, the $6 man and all the certain ethnic guy skits. It was a great way to grow up in Cleveland!!!
“Guitarzan! And his jungle band! 2 all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese! Guitarzan!” That’s how I sung this as a child. 😂 Get a load of Big Chuck’s footwork. The same moves he would use for the “Sunday Morning Chills” skit actually.
Loved watching this as a kid when it was new on Hoolihan and Big Chuck and later on Big Chuck and Lil' John! When Tony Carmen as Jane came swinging out and whacked into Big Chuck at 1:27, one of his fake boobs dropped and my Dad would roar at that every time he watched this! This skit's still a great Cleveland classic!
The funniest thing was the big Pollock lady picking up little John to throw him in a washtub yell and I'll show you ring around the collar OMG OMG OMG thank you for the memory
drew carey & moon over parma...the pizza eating dog winning top prise!!!LMFAO!!!!!!we went, took the kids in the neighborhood...we had a ball...wore our jammies...what innocent times then
This is actually "hollihan and big chuck" .. hollihan is playing the bongos. Lil john may have been holding the rope, being an employee at the time and not yet the shows new headliner...
I moved out of the area after a death in my family & tonight May 10th, 2019 I checked the TV listings on the internet just to see what the Friday night lineup looks like in modern day upon the retirement of Big Chuck & Lil John & the post lineup makes me sick. Two & a half men followed by Seinfeld, followed by a repeat of the nights evening news, followed by a Highway Patrol cop show & then its that lame ass paid program shit. Talk about sick. EWWWWWWW Back in the day it would be the Hoolihan & Big Chuck Show, followed by 8 All Night with either scary black N white movies or the funny Bowery Boys movies till dawn. Talk about how TV changed for the worse. Now ya see why I DON'T watch TV anymore. dvds & youtube & that's it. TV anymore flat out sucks with the exception of a show called Heartland. Now THAT'S a great show. But other than that one, my TV stays off. And by the looks of things I'm not missing much. So pathetic what TV's become. So pathetic. ZZZZZZZZZZ PS Wake me up when its over.
Does anyone know where I can find the black and white chinagan song? It’s where his chis is through a cardboard cut out and sings a funny yodeling song.
