Lord, the Friday nights fixing Jiffy Pop popcorn and cherry Kool-Aid, to watch Big Chuck and Lil'John...if I remember, it was on WJW out of Cleveland, something about a giant gorilla on a WJW letter sign, and the music starting"Here we go again." I'm 67, and still remember that. Good times.....yep.
Went to my best friend's😊 house to watch Big Chuck and Little John, after Hoolihan left. The Ghoul on Saturday nights. You will never see such classic TV fare again.
As an accordion player who is currently working on an arrangement for two or more accordions (preferably minimum of 2 in the lead) I found this to be hilarious!!! At first wondering why an accomplished player would be using such an old, tiny instrument, when he pulled it apart I burst out laughing - this was very well done!!!!! Great stuff!!!!
I lived in Goosetown back then and went to Sacred Heart .I played drums and sang polish songs just down the street at Aetna Café with Ronnie Mistak and his brother I was 7or 8. every time I see this I crack up. The Polka Varietes take off is really funny too.
Grew up in Akron but moved out of state in 72. Thanks for the memories. Tulsa station did have the Unfilmy Can Festival with Gaylord Sartain and Gary Busey so didn’t get away from crazy altogether thank goodness. And I do have a Ghoolardi T shirt still.
I think l only saw them once when l was a kid. I lived Indiana and we were visiting in Cleveland. I never watched Ghoulardi, either. In 1972 or '73 we were in Cleveland again and l saw the Ghoul, who instantly became my King and Leader. The movie was "The Brain That Would Not Die."
Good guy in white, bad guy in black. :o) 'Theme from Belligerence' (obviously a take-off on the movie Deliverance and its banjo duel which was popular in that era, 1972) Accordion is misspelled as 'accordian'. The same accordion that falls apart was used by a child named Carl Ruskin on the Certain Ethnic Varieties sketch.
In the great American Rust Belt, from Lorain thru Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, Pittsburgh, and Uniontown, it doesn't matter how you spell the name, it's only important that you pronounce it correctly, "Ackordeen!" The restless spirit of Frankie Yankovich demands respect.
Thuis was filmed,as was thge rifle guy outsidfe the cz4ch grill in lorain on the corner of Elyris Avenue & 31st. The sidewalk goes down Elyria avenue from 31st. I rode with my parents past the site when they were fiiming the rifle giy. Good memories.
These guys are David Stuchlak (moustach ) and Corky Barber (white accordion). I went to the same accordion studio with them in Parma called Luty's Music...no foolin
I used to watch this show as a little boy in Cleveland, O in the 70's. I always looked forward to seeing it for some reason. I believe it came on channel 42: "channel 42 plays favorites".
Yes. It was filmed at Fleet and Klonowski. Jolly Tee Cafe was near Aetna and E.75th. clevelandcentennial.blogspot.com/2011/11/hoolihan-and-big-chuck.html
I can only assume the one Negative vote was because they ruined a classic Accordion. I wasn't too happy about it either but I hope they had it repaired after that.
@nsa12345 Hey, don't just knock SuperHost, he's a cool bit of Northern Ohio as well. A poor man's version of BG & LJ, but what's wrong with that? Ah, guess you had to grow up with it all to understand.
in western ohio the only cleveland tv station we got was channel 43. maybe hoolihan and big chuck was relayed in some way or different tapes were shown other than what was being shown in cleveland at the same time. anyone know?
Does anyone know or remember if they did a skit with Wonder woman... I remember something where 1 of them was a on a bench or something and wonderwoman was there or maybe a hot girl in a police uniform it was.. I don't recall.. but she went after a group the stold something or whatever.. next thing you know.. she was being chased cause she was "Hot"... if someone can remember or have a link to that.. please post
Does anyone know who sings this version of this song shes too fat for me I like it. Cleveland was awesome in the 70's after the steel mills started shutting down Cleveland really went downhill in the 80's. Good memories though that bar has been long since bull dozed.
Yo skit like a Monty Python influence... Yo Yo Bizarre ending with a laughing ending yo? Yo laughing sound is like vintage 70s cartoon character yo... bizarre laughing voice yo. seens to be similar to one who does 1970s cartoon voice of "Hong Kong Phooey" or Yo is it Scatman Crothers laughing trying to sound like Burt Reynolds Yo...
