I have a 97 73 with 380,000 miles and it always starts right up in the cold. I change the glow plugs every 40k. Not to say it doesn't blow grey smoke to the next county every morning haha

bro turn your key on for 30 sec turn off then turn on again let the glow plugs get hott. never in my life had this kinda prob starting my truck. an i been in some of the coldest shit out there
Class A Living plug the dang thing in. Hard on starter and engine. Why let it gallop? Idle it up with your foot a few minutes then set the idle. Mercy.
My 02 Dodge Cummings never has any problems starting in the winter. I don't see why it's such a feat to get something started that should start in the first place
Hey guys I have two questions that maybe you can answer, WHY do you all have exhaust pipes behind the cab, either dual or a really big silly looking one? On every one all I see is soot stained cabs? What is the reason for changing the exhaust to this? One other question, I live in ND and have been driving diesel pickups for 20 years most all the them GM type pickups, but the brand does not seem to matter because they all start with out any problems way into the below zero range, are all of these pickups so out of tune that they ALL seem to start so crappy? You fellow must go through about 4 or 5 starters a year? Wow if your NOT going to get your engines fixed so they start normally at least please give tht poor starter a minute or so rest period, every 4 or 5 minutes? WOW!!
My dodge Cummins would start right up as long as waited for the wait to start light to go out even with 400k miles on it. It had an intake heater instead of glow plugs.
Do you guys mind if I smoke? these trucks got some serious smoking problems but I love the sound and smell of a cold starting diesel in the morning. @ 6:26 is that corvette a diesel? It sounds great.
Haha thats about it...The only time I could see getting smoke stacks is if you have like a dually and all you do is haul trailers and such as a business
so what's with us trucks. is there no glowplugs or ? all the clips I checked, they start after 2-3 min when it's cold and they go bad as hell. some may restart, some do not go on all cylinders
After watching this I'm convinced I'll be keeping my old diesel Land Rover work truck that's done more than 400,000km . It starts in zero degrees better than anything in these clips without glowing , and worth practically nothing . The only thing that beats a high performance American diesel truck is one that has to tow start it
As an fyi most people looking up cold start videos show the actual air temp should be included in the video otherwise it could just be an actual engine cold start not referring to air temp but I see some of these were in the snow that's about it as far as cold without us knowing the air temp.
Some just dont understand how much bearings suffer when ya dont let that oil thin out .. Remember pony motors on heavy equipment and what its purpose was
First of all those aren't big engines and second of all they must be in piss poor shape to not start unless all these vid's were shot when it was 40 below.
PS4 racing games even without glowplugs they'd fire right up if theyvsimply plugged their block heaters in. Hell...we've got an old massey furguson with the 200cu in Perkins diesel in it. No glow plugs. Thermostat controlled block heater stays plugged in from november until april and unless it's -20 farenheight she'll fire right up.
really poor starting engines. Most had green grass in the background, couldn't have been that cold. Get a block heater/glowplugs/grid heater. Just because they eventually cough to life doesn't mean its really good to do so. you're taking life out of those engines.
Lol. I did this once on a 7 degree morning just to see what would happen. No, heater, no glow. It started up and it wasn't happy about it either; skipped and spewed black smoke for a couple of minutes before the idle evened out. '99 Dodge 3500.
