They still are with bruce and mark. I'd love to sing the lead live with the band. I think my vocals wpuld be fine. I'm a masterton whose clan home is Dunfermline
It's definitely my favourite live version for sure.I did have the album "Without the aid of a safety net" but that seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth, and that's why I'm listening to this track here.
@@DC-uv3nz Stop wriggling, fairly is being used to qualify a superlative. I don't know if there is unanimity about this version being the definitive version. I agree with you that it is but I know of those who think only studio versions of any piece of music can be considered definitive. This is one of my all time favourite songs and yes, it is the best version by far...in my opinion.
I occasionally come back to these clips as they restore my faith in human-kind. I have everything BC recorded with Stuart. When I speak of BC, it is so personal, it is like talking about me, my past, my feelings, my aspirations, my sadness, my anger. I grew up with BC, older now, and hence I really don't understand a lot of comments. BC saved me when I was 17,when Steeltown came out An awakening to which I never want to forget and always want to embrace each morning.
I grew up listening to this music, 35 years later it just gets better with age.i will die loving big country, stuart you were and still are a god to many.rip.
Not sure why people argue over Big Country vs U2. When U2 first came out, I enjoyed "Boy", "October" and "War". But Big Country's music is close to my heart in a way U2 could never be. I met Stuart and Tony in 1993, nice chaps.
If I could have one day in a time machine, I would go to The Barras to see Big Country with Stuart up front!! Bounce... Bounce... Bounce!!! Those who were lucky enough to be there, cherish your memories. 😥
I saw them at the Barras in 1991. It was the first gig I ever went to and it is still the best. I don't think any concert will ever top that one. Absolutely phenomenal experience. 😁
Yeah, Barras is a great venue. Floor's sprung so you get a brilliant 'bounce'. Great fun. Miss these days sooo much. Cheers Stuart, Bruce, Tony and Mark. Love you all.
I have been listening a lot to Big Country during the lockdown and pandemic to decompress. Music heals you. I remember seeing them in concert in the 80s and they had so much good energy. It has always been uplifting to hear their songs and it makes you want to soar above all of the sadness, stress and all the changes that are going on right now. I’m very grateful for Big Country’s talent. R.I.P. Stuart. Praying 🙏 for your family, fans, and band mates. Your immortal soul lives on forever.
First saw them Live at the Edinburgh playhouse New Years Eve 1983. I was 16 years old and it is the BEST concert I have ever been to. Met Stuart several times at East End Park watching our beloved PARS, he was a very humble man. RIP Stuart you left us far too soon.
stuart and BC saved me for sure in 85. Underrated? I never go down that path. BC, to me means Stuart, Bruce, Tony and Mark, was unique. We might never see such poetry put to rock again. BC first got me on their 'music, but it was the poetry and humanity. I loved The Crossing, but Steeltown slayed me. I heard Steeltown once and was more dumbfounded than when I heard the Crossing. The band, esp. Stuart, is better live than studio. That is incredible.
Here I stand with my own kin, At the end of everything, Finally the dream has gone, I've nothing left to hang upon, I came here with all my friends, Leaving behind the wait of years, Leaving alone in a flood of tears! Amen Stuart !
I remember Stuart used to say this whole album was too downbeat for people, but to me it always was and always will be one of the most beautiful collection of songs ever. RIP, my dearest friend. What made you so great is exactly what took you. May we meet again some day. xxx
U2's The Edge delivered the eulogy at Adamson's funeral which was held at Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline. He told the mourners that Big Country wrote the songs that he wished U2 could write.
Big Country!!! What a band. saw them live in the early 80s in London. never lost ttheir roots. Also one of the best live bands that came out of that era. Steeltown best record they ever did. Great live track. RIP Stuart
Every time it goes to the riff break and the crowd starts pulsing... omg. Someone please invent a time machine and let me borrow it for exactly 5 mins 47 sec. Thanks.
and I'm back and Stuart was a genius and I miss him. I wasn't wrong. BC is the best band ever and how can you argue with a sea of palms in an ocean of snow. cripes. no one writes songs like this anymore.
I am from Canada(originally from Brampton, ON - CFNY 102.1FM) - I just loved these guys and still love them, Fingerprintz(Jimmy O'Neill) and many others from Scotland. Love this energy! I miss him and his lovely musical perspectives!
Brother in lives in Ontario.. he'd not be into BC.. he'd really not be into runrig who sang "the cutter" a great song about a uk emigre who settled in ontario.. just like him. about the same time. Some folks are just not connected to the world. BC fans get it. my names on the crossing anniversary LP snd I'm very scottish very from dunfermline and very knowing of the shit we went through in Scotland in the 80s. Thatcher@
So many years later and this band still command a following both online and live, there's a reason and this is one of them. Musicians still post videos of attempts at covers, New musicians still discovering the complexity of big country's sound. Amazing, and I was privileged to have witnessed their prime.....along with many others. Privileged.
F KING PROUD to ave got to see Big Country perform on many occasions an many event an this choon f king rocked the foundations everytime ! R.I.P. Stuart you shall always be remembered never forgotten ! Love to the family !
Just watched the current big country in my home town Corby which this song was written about. Absolutely superb and at the end thanked every member past and present including Stewart. Really quite emotional and I'm guessing as great as they always were. Thank you for the music, from corby
Found myself in London after Winter Olympics in Norway, got to see these concerts cant remember what gig it was, somewhere in London Town. Still tell my kids that it was the wettest and most brilliant concert I have ever been to. No other band has the energy in their music that BC had. I hung around and got to meet he guys it was great, they didnt realise they had fans from Sydney Australia. Sadly I dont think they ever got to Australia? RIP Stuy.
I was 17 in 1983 sitting in my parent's basement, in Toronto, my folks rife with debt and I was off to university, but with a partial scholarship and good prospects. I sat there with my dog, alone, wondering about what I knew about life. Then I heard Steeltown on the radio. My world changed for the 2nd time with BC at that moment, the first when I heard 'Chance' of course. I realized that the struggle is the prize, the journey the reward, all else noise. What a lesson.
i was there ,great concert by a great band big country were class live. and this proves just how talented they all were ,bloody amazing AND FANDABBIEDOSIE
Love the way Bruce attakes his guitar! The energy at this gig must have been f*ing phenomenal, it's so obvious the boy's are totally in the groove!! Shite!--Miss you Stuart.
this is without doubt the best vid out there of this song - what a voice, and there is no flaw in his voice singing live.............. absolute gem of a video to always treasure in watching Stuey Adamson do what he did best...
didnt know what music was all about till i heard in a big country then i made a point of listening to all of the best music to come out of this god forsaken world william stuart adamson RIP X
Absolutely stellar, bands don't come any tighter, and music never more moving than this! Stuart was, never given the accolades he was due. RIP , you are sorely missed.
It is the best live version, this concert was one of the best indeed. Mark is sounding so cool and Stuart, Bruce and Tony are in great shape. Aah memories. Great car track.
What a fantastic live band BC were. Saw them for the first time right after "The Crossing" came out, and that concert remains one of my fave experiences ever - pure brilliance start to finish. Such a sad, sad day when Stuart died. RIP.
Spent most of my teenage years bouncing to these guys ,awesome video takes me back, may also explain the 20% hearing loss in the right ear but well worth it.
Even I, who struggle with enjoying live versions in general compared to studio recordings (especially if I learnt to love the music from the studio recordings), find this version to be much more than just acceptable. All the good parts are highlighted and extended to give the audience more of what we want. It is a real treat to listen to this version when you know the original full well.
Stiil miss you Big Man, to be fair on this tour all the songs were nailed on. I thought the boys were at their best live and especially on the Without tour.
