This is my Balsa Wood RC plane I took it out to fly with too much wind and had a bad Crash. It may be rebuildable but will take a lot of time and work. I should not have taken it out to fly with that much wind. Here is the parts I used to build it and a few more links to some of my videos. If you take off with too much up elevator, you are only just above the stall. You can do a short take off like that but cannot touch the ailerons, until comfortably above the stall point. Otherwise it means that as soon as you add aileron you completely stall the wing which you were trying to lift. That happens because the wing angle of attach was at the stall, so when you put the aileron down it increases the angle of attack beyond the stall and the wing drops.

Beautiful build, Just as an armchair engineer, i noticed you added some tail weight to try and counter moving the engine nacel forward to allow room for the retracts, On prototypes Bassier adds 5 feet of fuselage ahead of the wing to counter the CG. Still a stunning build and gorgeous finish.

Yea, you can't horse a airplane off the ground like that with no flying speed. That would have happened if it was dead calm.

Typical DC3 knife edge of death...my Top Flight with 2x 52 FS engines did exactly the same as has many others before me....the cause looked like insufficient ground speed before takeoff...need to hold it on the ground longer before lifting off ...great clip of the re build....am sure you will soon have it repaired...nice to see proper building skills as opposed to chucking it in the bin and buying an ARTF or a foamy...👍👍👍

Luckily it didn't suffer much damage it can still be repaired but don't put much command in depth. And try not to get it from the wind, always very attentive to farts the movements of the model. 👍😎

You should go to the edge of the woods, get your flaps down, wheels down on approach, speed down when at the edge of the field - give your self room. Look at the wings to the horizon.

Richard Briscoe Yes! and yet if either one underestimates the magnitude of a crosswind they can both end up with a damaged plane on the side of the runway. It’s like the laws of physics don’t care how much money or people did you put on each plane, they’ll treat both specimens with the same kindness.

That's sad but totally fixable. Might I suggest about 30 to 40% expo on the elevator and aileron controls when she gets flying again. That little model needs to be smooth in the air to look real.

Tricky beasts to fly DC-3's with those pointy wings,always incorporate wingtip washout in designs like this so the root stalls before the wingtip,also reduce up elevator throw reduces the temptation to haul back and stall ,was this the first take off crash incorporated into this video ? a pity because the old DC-3 was flying so well after the nose and nacelle repairs.

Either line up into the wind for take-off, or be ready with left aileron when you leave the ground.
@gogogeedus
@gogogeedus 4 года назад
he was very quick on the left ailerons but that was the cause of the crash, because that action stalled the right wing which flipped the plane onto its side, the wind may have had some effect but the lack of rudder input in this situation is going to determine the outcome. top rudder would have saved his plane and no ailerons.

you put too much elevator, even before the tail lift off, a big no for tail dragger. gain some speed most tail dragger don't even need elevator for take off they will leave the ground and it will face the wind eventually
