My father always told me there's no such thing as a grown man just giving another grown man anything without any expectation of a return. Kane knew the play and didn't fall for the okee doke.
I would give you money if I love you. That's it. Because I really owe you nothing. No mind games. But I will watch you run circles around yourself for amusement. But I'll eventually tell you to calm the fuck down.
That just goes to show how little you know. It was dope for the time that it was out in. Things evolve you know? What an idiot you sound like.@@justineebourgeois3420
Kane did some fire with pac pac was the only one that co signed Kane when everybody forgot about Kane. Eric b death row east was gonna be something special it’s sad what happen too late playa is my song with Mc hammer Danny boy Kane and pac
It’s foolish anyways, there’s no telling his record would’ve recouped the amount he was owing (since this deal is really a loan and not free money) and had it flopped, he would’ve been in debt to Suge and likely having to sell whatever other assets he had to break even. And worst case scenario, it could’ve turned ugly. Good on Kane for keeping his freedom and peace of mind. He’s come out of it well.
Sad nobody wanted to sign him from the East.. im a 90’s baby from the West I liked Rakim and Kane growing up. Rakim had the bars and Big daddy Kane was more of a story teller to me
In High school for English class we had to read of song lyrics. I chose Big Daddy Kane ain't no half steppin. Kane got me an A. Teacher said she didn't give me an A+ because I read it like a rap. I'm like it is a rap and in order for it to rhyme there is a certain rhythm to connect the words 😂.
@@jasongibbs3713 He was only 26-28 at the time in 1994. But...gangster rap took over bro. He didn't fit in. KRS was able to survive the 90's because he had a diverse fanbase and performed overseas. But BDK came from the 80's era where you just rapped. But when the 90's kicked in, and that mafioso street rap became popular, he didn't fit in. Slick Rick came out with an album in 1998 and it did pretty well. He didn't rap gangster...he had features from nas, outkast, etc. It went gold at least. But those guys had a hard time in the 90's because they were getting into their 30's and their understanding of hiphop was from its beginning. They didn't understand the gangster rap thing...but because a bunch of 19 year olds were selling millions of records being 'gangsters', these grown men who were almost 30 were expected to fit that criteria. Same thing with Rakim. He came out with an album in 97' and 99'. They didn't do well because he didn't compromise his image. It took for THIS TIME..this era..2024..for people to really appreciate them. But hiphop was 20 years old at that time, so it was still forming and developing. But the greats from the 80's are able to do shows every year...and live off music NOWADAYS. in the 90's, it was tough for them. But thank god people who grew older with them are supporting them financially. Rock music was about 40 years old at the time, so it had time to develop and a generation of fans grew older with their favorite artists. Plus, rock fans are generally more appreciative of the past artists because in that culture, you're a cornball if you don't know the classics. But rap was literally 19-20 years old by time 1994 kicked in, and the fans who were adults in the 80's, moved on with their life by 1994 and probably stopped listening to hiphop. It was like teenager's music or a young person's music. Now that hiphop is 50 years old, it's no longer just a young person's game. A person can be 50-60 and listen to Big Daddy Kane...an 18 year old could listen to NBA Youngboy. Kane was a victim of being at the right place at the wrong time.
That's why New York has fallen off and not considered the epicenter of hip-hop anymore. Since the early 2000s everyone has been going to LA, Atlanta or Miami to blow up.
@@diallo6197you Khaki wearing West coast non rapping niggaz swear yall took over 😂😂😂😂 FOH rap is on toilet right now because of West Coast garbage rap
@@bigloc3442 True, but you had certain NY labels Rocafella, Ruff Ryders, or even Def Jam still making noise at the time and neither of them even considered signing 50 Cent
He talked about the other track before too. Wherever U Are... They never got a hook added to that song and it was left unfinished. But the bars were there.
Ny is competitive. Everbody was a mc in nyc. Think about. Cali was hard to find a a mc. A matter of fact all the best rappers in Cali was from the east coast. Tupac and corrupt. So Cali was importing there rappers. Even doc
a little fun fact when big daddy Kane drop the prince of darkness album it turnt alot of east coast fans off because it really catered to the women fan base but Kane was before his time because that album was actually good but unfortunately it drop in the wrong era and I think that was reason alot record label didn't sign him and it was stupid because Kane would've put out some hits
Big Daddy Kane a living legend all lyrical rappers and spitters coming after was in second, one of the best rappers of all time without question, top ten coming out of the NYC with no exception, since you were in your prime lyricism in hip hop has steady lessened, you inspired so many that came after you your talent was a blessing, laid back approach with bars on every song with no discretion, and if you don't know who this man is do your research study your lesson sit back and listen because class is in session, nothing but respect to the living legend no error on words or misspelling, flowers given while you still livin, your presence in the rap game will forever be cemented!
Boy, just think if 2Pac hadn't got killed Death Row East was about to blow up. You see Kane said labels weren't talking to him and you know Death Row East were probably about to start signing legendary NYC artist who weren't able to get record deals to Death Row East. Death Row would've totally taken over the rap game and the East vs West probably would've ended. Biggie was already leaving Bad Boy Records start his own label which meant Puff would've been screwed.
‘Only double platinum…’ 🤣😂🤣 I bet Suge said that shit with a straight face. Death Row really had shit on lock from 1993-1996. Nas & BIG were the only NY rappers that went platinum during this time period.
@@MrWARBUCKS24 No they didn’t. Enter The Wu-Tang and all the solo albums between 93-96 went Gold during that time period. Some of those albums eventually went platinum years later. But between 93-96, only Nas & BIG were the only NY hip-hop artist that went platinum.
@@SharkVshore Liquid Swords DID NOT go platinum. It went Gold. Method Man’s album was the highest selling Wu Tang solo album in that time period. That didn’t go platinum either. Stop reaching. A hip-hop album going platinum in those days was a direct correlation of artists who got nationwide radio play & promotion. Wu Tang didn’t have as much love in the West & South as they did on the East Coast. Death Row was on the radio East to West.
On the real, thanks 4this interview bruh...I got both songs he's talking about and it's dope to hear how they came about...lol..gotta look that Tyson fight up jus to see who it was...thanks again though
Big Daddy Kane understand the game from the very beginning. I aint taking nothing that isnt earned, because i will not owe you anything in the future. Dealing with Suge was a credit line that accrues interest overtime. But yet its also a debt that is hard to pay off.
I wonder why the Diggler from bad boy didn’t try and sign KANE, i remember hearing somewhere KANE was biggie’s favorite rapper growing up, them 2 doing a track together would have been fire 🔥
One of the greatest rappers of all time big daddy kane I still listen to his music today but u done right not excepting that money that's when pimps own u
BDK is a legend. He is smart too! He saw how Suge was moving and knew if he joined the camp and didn't follow the Sargents directions he too would've been popped by the Smith and Wesson! Lol
well Def Jam wasn't doing that good at that time (1995-1996) ,Bad Bay had Biggie,Loud had Wu-Tang ,Sony had Nas ,Tommy Boy had Naughty By Nature, and non of these East Coast labels didn't want to sign Kane, Damn
As Salaamu'Alaikum to Big Daddy Kane! He performed at our club(The UPSTAIRS) in Passaic, NJ back in da day! One of my TOP 5 FAVORITE LYRICISTS of ALL TIME!!! #BARZ
BDK from the streets, and he used his street wisdom to determine what was bad bitnus and credible sense. He also was bold enough to give an ear to a possible bitnus move, without feeling no type of threat from Suge. And, Suge saw him at one point of the meeting as the Hip Hop legend that he is, but on the same token tried to put his service like a loan shark to this legend. Kane was smooth on turning it down, plus recognizing(by his dog encounter)that Suge was trying a scared tactic with that whole situation.🤷🏾♂️
Sign him to do what, that shit was already flooded even when he came in the game, that’s why he was so dope at that time, the competition was way better than the bad boy Death row era
Why didn’t the Tupac estate ever put out the “Wherever You Are” collab with Tupac & Big Daddy Kane? All that was missing was a hook + a production update.
I seen him in concert at his age right now .. he still has it and he’s one of those people that don’t need to play those label games he should stay independent and build his brand back up
One of the coolest dudes and greatest MC'S ever and maybe the best hip hop lyricist for other rappers ever. You were spot on to not take that " pocket money" from Suge. If you accepted that money, who knows what that would have cost you.
The transition was crazy for a lot of rappers in the early 90’s. It was sort of like the scene in the WIZ when the colors would change rapidly. It was red two seconds ago and now green is the hot color. So people like Kane that were hot in 88-89 were considered played out in 93. Crazy times back then.
@artofdialouge i remember the early days when u didnt have all the great interviews uve made it bruh proud of you your putting on decent interviews salute 👏
Nah you just a Khaki wearing bitch. If NY snakes what fuck that make Suge Knight ? Big Daddy Kane entire career was NY based. His time was kinda over at that point. Stfu
