Idk about under appreciated at all. They charge $600 for a $150 muffler and another $400 in “maintenance” to do 15 minutes of work. Like doctors, just because it’s important to you means you have to pay $35,000 for something commonly done nowadays that doesn’t even require that much experience or actual on the job cost. I can’t tell you how easy It is fixing shorn quoted for $900 for literally $35. Everyone has to make a living but because they’re all scammers nobody cares what they have to say. Plus they break our shit half the time and make us pay for a new engine? Screw you
Detail would be to loosen that drive shaft because the rubber driveshstaft center bearing just got damaged by chance. The shaft has Ben running out off alignment or is now.in either case the rubber u joints vibration dampers need an inspection. I worked as a transmission expert for 28 years. That exhaust is putting heat on the before mentioned parts. Better check those exhaust hangers made of rubber while you're at it and stretching parts with a pole jack too.
@@MyRuger a mechanic cant order the parts and do a estimated bill in 25 have you ever been lied too by a fancy car owner who got half the work done and took 3 months and 4 credit cards to pay a 400$ bill. Thats why I stopped fixing people's junk.bad overpriced cars but terrible people
Replacing the engine mounts regains massive driving quality. Did this to my 24 year old Audi a couple of months ago and the difference is absolutely crazy.
MrPorsche91730 Engine mounts won’t improve the ride quality. There’s a lot more than shocks that control your ride quality. Depends on your suspension set up but generally for cars and light duty trucks you have sway bar bushings and end links, ball joints, control arm bushings and of course shocks. Are you certain your shocks are ok? Aka when you go over a bump especially on the highway does the car seem to bounce more or longer than it should? Also if you just replaced them, low quality shocks give a low quality ride. Hope this helps you
I have also a 2001 b5 a4 TDi Audi. I feel the engine so "near me", and if i go to 3000 rpm I feel it like it's a sports car. You say that even if I don't have big vibrations inside, replacing those rubber parts will make the care more confortable? I drove a Vw Bora with same engine and i felt like the engine is "far away" from the cabin and was running smoother
Thank you for showing yourself supporting the back of the car with the jack, I feel like it is not covered enough in these types of videos. Center of balance is the most important safety issue when using these lifts.
I remember my first fan removal. Didn't know it was left hand thread. I had bars, pipe wrenches, etc. Watched youtube and felt like an idiot cause I didn't think of that.
I'm so jealous of these techs. They always seem to have the right tool/part and get to work in a clean enviroment. I'm sure they also have all the specs to look at as well. I work in manufacturing dealing with junk Chinese equipment without a drawing or schematic that's as long as 8 cars and would argue is more complicated. I'm not bragging, I'm saying I can't hardly do shit.
You can do this job with regular tools.. everyone can do it. It's one of the easiest things to do, you just need at least 2 car jacks and common tools.
I tried, I took like 6 classes at a community college and all I know how to do is change spark plugs, oil changes and maybe an alternator and starter if it's is 1995 Nissan Altima lol.
After you take your last breath are you going to heaven or hell? Please ask yourself that question now. Jesus can save your soul from hell. He will forgive your sins. He said whoever calls upon his name shall be saved. Call upon Jesus today. Repent and believe the gospel.
i replaced every mount in my 1972 chevy c20 and each one was anywhere from 1.5 to 3.5 inches SHORTER than the replacements… crazy what time and wear does
(Content ⚠️ Warning) Had a buddy who decided to try and break a bolt lose by pushing toward a stamped heat shield like that. I had to bag his finger up and put it on ice while I rushed him to the hospital. They’re very sharp. So when breaking bolts lose near sharp steel or even plastic edges, please break it away from any smash/pinch points. Some bolts break lose with no warning sending your arm forward like a knockout punch into a very sharp object. Yes he hit it so forcefully it severed his pinky finger. Cut through the flesh but the bone actually broke into a few pieces. I wish I had taken pictures of the after surgery but I couldn’t stomach it. Lol. I still don’t know how I managed to pick up his finger with most vomiting on it.
I started working as a mechanic for Honda then got into BMWs. Wasn't always the same but most of the time I made three times more money off of BMWs. And that was me being faster on Honda's
Don’t lie though it wasn’t just because you were perhaps working harder. Honda’s are so much simpler and they are made to be as easy to work on as possible without hindering performance, when possible. Bmw is just overengineering taken to the max so they can try and get that little bit of edge over there competition with other luxury brands.
@@Thatguy-fg4fp When did I say I was working harder? Motor mounts for Honda's was easy (ish) but took more than twice as long on BMW. I charged more to work on BMW's so made more for the two hours or BMW motor mounts vs the one hour on say an Odyssey
@@jonbar140 I consider bmws to be harder work is what I was saying. Guess I didn’t make it extremely clear so I can see why you said that but I was more or less inferring that that was the case. I can work on Honda’s without a service manual most of the time but with bmws no matter how simple the job you are almost certainly going to need to a larger amount of very specific steps. So I consider them to be harder work but I guess more skilled at the same time.
@@Thatguy-fg4fp okay I'm tracking with you now. After doing this for over a decade I quit using the term harder or easier and start saying more patient or not. Because really all it's about is taking things off. But I noticed when people don't know what they're doing they just don't take time. It's not hard to change a clutch or the cams it just takes extra steps that require extra patience. And yes, using a service manual and building on the back of experts definitely makes it easier.
I'm not a mechanic, but I want to work for you. Mannn you're so good. I have a very bad experience with bad mechanics always doing the wrong thing and asking for a lot of money. But you're excellent and I wish all the mechanics are like you.
The mounts are still good on my 97 Ford Explorer that I bought for $2200 10 years ago and drive every day, and is never in the shop, cause I can work on it myself. But then again I don’t look as cool as people who own a Beamer, that you see in a Honda, cause the Beamer is in the shop again, which they also still don’t own…
2nd hand work I took over from a prior tech. Came in with a oil leak. "Just needs a oil pan" per quote. Engine mounts were both torn, as well as front suspension concerns. Springs were so worn the axle impacted the oil pan causing the leak...
Brother the difference of 9 millimeters is nothing 9 mm equal 0.3543307 inch. 9 cm equal 3.543307 inch Jupp that makes a difference. Greetings from Europe 😂
@@TitusFFM it's not a "Americans don't know metric", it's more sarcastic because it is such a small difference. If there's a metric measurement we know, it's 9mm, friendo
I changed the mounts on my e39,engine and transmission mounts and the difference is night and day, gotta do my b7 3.0tdi audi next and I'm not looking forward to it as its so tight under there😟
@@zrspangle it's the radiator clutch fan which drives off the water pump pulley. And yes, they spin quite fast depending on the amount of resistance in the clutch and what RPM the engine is at.
Had these done on mine recently, had driven it for so long with the old mounts when the new ones were put in it was like the engine wasn’t even on at idle
@@ben10bro22 if you have to ask then you don’t understand. Keep being a bottom feeder so we may continue to drive valuable trouble free vehicles. While we continue to make money off of your stupidity in buying needy vehicles. Pay attention or pay cash!
“I need an oil change” Mechanic: “no problem it should be just a minute” Also mechanic: *changes engine mounts, transmission mounts, alternator, timing belt, steering wheel, head lights, AWD*
Get a lift, it's a pain in the dick to hold up the trans and engine when you're on your back under the car. Or, put it on high blocks if you got em. Don't do the job unless you have plenty of clearance. I'm not a true DIY person since I am a mechanic but I don't have a lift at my house so I make do with what I got. Also invest in an electric hydraulic car lift, they aren't expensive. Maybe a couple hundred at most but worth it especially when jacking up your vehicles. Good luck! Be safe!
@@ChahtaAnumpa it's easy. Grab yourself a harbor freight support bar to put tension on the engine. Do one side at a time so the engine also pulls up on the opposite side. For the passenger side unbolt the bracket from the engine to get better access. Also there's no need to remove the reinforcement plate like he did. Doing so means replacing all those bolts (one time use bolts) and torqueing them to yeild (you need a traditional torque wrench and an angle wrench). You can absolutely do this in your garage with an engine support bar from harbor freight and some hand tools
Years (decades) ago I had a Rabbit convertible which was a blast to drive but had a bit of a vibration. When I took it in for a new clutch the service writer said, “It’s probably the motor mounts, common problem”. Over time oil leaks onto the motor mounts and they disintegrate. Sure enough replacing the motor mounts made that car as smooth as a Cadillac. That particular VW dealer was honest and affordable.
Thanks for showing this. It gives me a much better understanding of what I need to do now lol. I was questioning whether my mounts are bad in my 2007 Honda pilot I have 170,000 miles. the position three mount passenger side was holding on by a thread. I’m concerned that my other two mounts are in need of replace!!
