As people have mentioned below those interested in Zakk's tone of this era and many might not know and enjoy is his "solo band/work" called "Pride and Glory" - Some of his strongest guitar work outside of "No More Tears" and early Black Label - IMO
Dude, I absolutely LOVE your presentation style! Keep these coming, this is the kind of stuff us hardcore guitar nerds FREAK about. Props on the playing as well, super crisp and tight technique, love it!
Amazing job! I have to admit, I had to ask myself "how the hell does this dude own so much gear?"... Then I realized you're THE Michael Nielsen, Hollywood composer extraordinaire. I really dug your work on Forza 6. Cool guitar channel. Subbed.
I come back to this video from time to time - just cant get over how killer that tone is, and how well you nailed it!! Not to mention how well you nailed Zakk's playing style! Love the history on this stuff - thanks Michael!!
Wow, I was 17 when No Rest for the Wicked was released here in the UK and I was totally blown away by the tone! I've never heard anyone reproduce it...until now! Outstanding job and if I closed my eyes I couldn't tell if Zakk were playing or not! Brilliant! 💪🏼👍🏻🤟🏻🎸
my god, Zakk's comping was so creative, without leaving any emptiness putting in fills here and there between one riff and one chord. It's what you need when you have only one guitar in the band. Great great great comping. Too bad it stopped as soon as he started with BLS, where he fell into the cheap flat beer drinking metal crap and became a shadow of his former self. Great job with the sounds and the playing!!!
My favorite times in bands has always been as the only guitarist. It always forced me to come up with harmonically interesting ideas, and with the right bassist, you can really create textured compositions, regardless of genre.
I've searched ALL OVER RU-vid on how to get Zakk's sound, (Not that I want it for myself), just to hear what ppl are doing, and yours is THE BEST out there !!!
Thank you sir! I was one of my first videos. I WISH I did a better job documenting the sound so that I can refer back to it. I DID make Kemper profiles of the sounds that day... so at least those are still around.
That’s when Zakk‘s playing really inspired me... No more Tears, Pride and Glory.... awesome stuff!!! these days I can’t even listen to his playing anymore :-(
Saw P&G in a small club in 94, Zakk was playing the bullseye LP into a 2203 half stack with a few pedals on the floor. It was one of the hugest guitar sounds I've ever heard. I couldn't believe that tone was coming out of such a simple, almost "budget" rig.
Miracle Man was the first song Zakk wrote with Ozzy. Also the first song on the NRFTW album. Personally I don’t think Zakk ever sounded better than that again!
I always come back to this video every couple months for a little inspiration. Damn Michael, not only do your mixes kick ass, but your playing....buhjeebus!
Miracle Man lead is where I learned down down up picking. Can't believe that was probably 20 years ago. And here I thought I was still "young". I remember Zakk had a video where he shows you how to play it, and then goes "...and that's Miracle Man", and that phrase became a running joke between my other guitar player/friend and myself. To this day, when one of us plays something that impresses the other, it's "..and that's Miracle Man" TLDR I'm old
Dude you can shred! Awesome sound and you play those songs perfectly. I’ve always been a big fan of Zakk Wyldes(met him on the “No More Yours Tour” in Charlotte, and he and Dimebag and EVH and Randy Rhoads are my favorite guitar players!
I don't know how but I have just discovered your Nuno vid yesterday, subbed before it was even over. You are enjoyable to watch not only in delivery and obviousely skill, but you seem genuinely authentic with no gimmicky schtick or trying to be overly clever or funny. Thank you and can't wait to see more of these....Be blessed and Merry Christmas.
Before this video. I had only seen a few here and there. I thought Michael was just a dad with some cool gear. After watching this I realized something was up. So great you have entire career doing this. I think this is just a tiny fun part though from what I have seen. And thanks for taking time to share your experience and knowledge. Your 80s Ozzy stuff is always dead on. Especially on this video!
Nice Michael - I prefer this era of Zakk's playing. He's still a monster player, I'm just not a fan of pinched harmonics at every conceivable opportunity - it gives me ear fatigue. But, tomato/tomotto
Lunga vita a te Michael. 🤟🏻🎸🎸👍🏻💯
Damn man you not only nail the tone and inflections awesome but also the actual play style and pick texturing. I almost want to cut some vocals on those.
Yeah, you nailed him dude. You’ve been playing for a while man, because you nailed his vibrato...so important. Most vids I see they never nail the vibrato right, and that’s one way to kill a song out of the gate. Great work man.
Holy smokes, that was awesome!I love exactly that Zakk era, grew up with him, Ozzy, later found his pride and gloryhole stuff.Would have never thought that anybody was able to capture his sound and now you also captured his playing.Once again, awesome. Gonna have to stick with your channel for a while.BTW: I'm playing a VH4 and may be looking for a tone change...to cut it short, what do you think about VH4 vs Friedman Phil X?Have a nice day!
Awesome dead on sound and playing fantastic job.... I always thought Zach was incredible during the shaven years too Thanks for a great video Now you got me all jazzed up and stoked for more old Ozzy stuff
