Neighbor Doug asked if I could mill him up some true 2x4 dimensional lumber because he is going to be developing a prototype yet to be announced. Leaves your guesses in the comments what you think he will be making.

As a person with a small firewood processing area, and just a tractor with a grapple and not an mini-ex or processor etc like you have, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Doug comes up with, and hoping that maybe it will be something that would be useful to my situation, and something that maybe I can copy to help make my processing easier/more efficient.

Agree 100% that typically milling 2x4's on the mill is a ton of work vs other cuts. Only time I do it is when I want to build something solely out of milled lumber for the fun of it. I just sold my HM126 and bought an EZ. Boardwalk 40 a week or so ago...what a great mill!

I watched Doug's video first, and part of my comment was to know what the cost of the lumber was. Thanks for the breakdown Adam! Do you happen to have a lifetime spreadsheet of what the sawmill has saved you in various projects during your ownership? Do you recall or care to share why you went with a BoardWalk 40 over say the competition like a Woodmizer? Looking into either a chainsaw mill or a small mill, would appreciate any insite you have now that you have used the mill for a couple years. Thanks in advance, take care and have a great day Around the Yard! ~ Brent

Very interesting to see how it all works. On the cost of the retail of the 2x4’s and cutting them your self what is the cost of the tree trunks or are they from your own land?

I don't know which HD store you shop at, but I quit buying 2X4s at the store near me. Warped, wet, full of knots. Same for the other Name big box store. I buy at the local Lumber yard, maybe a bit more expensive, but they are properly dried, even treated lumber is not slimy wet like at HD, and very few knots.

Too many electronic buttons on these new cars and trucks. I see future expensive problems. I’d take a manual transmission in a full size truck over an automatic any day. It’s frustrating to me that no one makes them anymore. A clutch is WAY cheaper than a repair or rebuild on one of these new 6, 8, or 10 speed automatics… Same with the electronic shift 4x4 and auto locking front hubs. When those fail and start leaking vacuum after 10ish years it’s more than $1000 to repair, and probably adds $1000 to the initial price of the truck new too. Waste. Give me a 6 speed manual transmission with a manual transfer case and manual locking hubs. Less expensive all around, and more reliable! Speaking from experience, the auto lock 4x4 fails at the most inconvenient time…
@JCWren
@JCWren 4 месяца назад
The shifter is a weird user interface. I had a rotary knob on my 2019 Ford Edge ST, and although it was different, it made sense. You rotate the knob through the PRNL21 positions? But push a button to park, rock forward for drive, and back for reverse? That's not consistent within itself. Dumb.

Per normal lumber lingo, "true" is not the correct word for this - "dimensional" is a more accepted word for this, i.e. dimensional lumber, dimensional two by four, etc. (Just a stupid comment to help the YT algorithm.)
