Another way that indicates what the bass are eating craws is red color you see in there mouth, that’s from eating craws. If they have sharper teeth it’s fish they eating primarily.

When I see guys fishing docks or banks I slow down to not startle any fish in that area and I give them there space I used to be that guy and I just know the feeling when you don't have access to a boat you handle that as well as you could have

I know you weren't gonna do what he thought you were gonna do but I can kinda see where he is coming from. If I was standing on the bank fishing and someone came to fish right next to me be it a boat or a fellow bank fisherman I would be heated. I wouldn't have said anything though until I made sure that's not what they were gonna do. There was no reason for him to immediately accuse you. I have had multiple incidents where people do that to me though. I'll be standing there with hundreds of yards on either side of me and someone will come fish like 10 feet away.
