Love the jackets Clay. Didn’t care much about the two guys handing them out tho. Knowing the history is as important as knowing the present. Especially in a storied organization like NHRA
Met Clay at the very first NHRA drag race I ever attended, maybe 2003, in Phoenix, such a nice guy too. Been a fan of his ever since. I'm rooting for you Clay.
I follow you from the United Kingdom, l have been really impressed by you and your team, l have looking over your history that was good watching your struggles and victories. I used to watched drag racing at Santa pod until l got married and children came along so priorities changed in the late 70s. Really enjoying you on RU-vid.
One thing that would be neat to hear about is how Kaylynn and her new hubby make things work, etc with him being on another team. Glad you made it in the field! What a nailbiter that had to be.
Next stop, Pep Boys Nationals in Reading PA!!! Been eyeing the 10 day forecast the past 2 days and its showing highs in the low 70's with dew point temps in the mid 50's. So should be some great weather for some record breaking passes in all classes. Bad thing is that there is a chance of rain on Friday. But it's a long way out and anything can change. Got my tickets for Friday night Qualies and Sunday Eliminations.
Clay, the funny part about My Place hotels are that they are/were partly owned by C.L. Werner , who use to sponsor your car. Talk about a small world. The first My Place hotel was built near Omaha, NE which is the headquarters for Werner.
Although you guys had a rough moment on qualifies, I'm so happy to know you have a Go for the final ! 👍 So nice to see Doug on your channel again doing fine.😄
I was wondering what happened on Q5, and I was also wondering what the deal with the radios being handed over to the crew chief on most teams after staging was completed. It was cool to put it all together when you mentioned the radio kill switch.
Ahh, Herb McCandless, what a great Pro Stock Shoe!! Such an era in drag racing, the 60's and 70's. Even this old harness mule ran an /MP car out in the northwest, '70-'71. It's great to see you get to where you are, now, too. It's a hard road to the Top Fuel top ranks. Thanks, Clay.
Seeing Mr. four-speed brought a smile to my face from when I was a young man but …when you turned the camera forward in the tow vehicle, and I saw Doug Stringer that brought a tear to this old man’s eyes. I still love Doug and what he did for all those years with you and it’s good to see him back and still smiling
Gotta say since BIG Jim O and Bruce have moved into the FIRST chair in the pits Clay has had a better hotrod. A ton of the good news is of course the deep, deep pockets of Rick Ware Racing. The guys struggled a ton in this race but they're not the only team to have trouble finding that ever elusive part of drag racing called "TRACTION". Power is not an issue,, getting those huge rears to adhere to the asphalt,, there in lies the challenge.
Wow!! Mr Herb McCandless,,, THE ONE, the ONLY,, "Mr 4Speed". He is so legendary and was, still is people from that era's idol,, the guy everyone wanted to emulate when rowing our hotrods thru the gears.
Blessing from Kissimmee FL Clay. I was wondering do you all sell your used and spent tires? Im trying to locate a set of 36" for mock up purposes to build my very first chassis for a Diesel Pro Mod and well buying a new set is probably not my best option for mock up as I know it will take me quite some time before I can complete the project and the tires will likely expire or dry rot before I get a chance to even do the first start up. Well I know your time is precious but either way many blessings to you the team and your loved ones from Kissimmee Florida
I stopped by Monday but your busy talking to Doug, got to talk with him a bit. I really wanted to talk to you also but didnt get the chance. I tried to get to Indy for 20 years but was stopped by cancer. Before the race started I was the one in a wheel chear that gave you congrats for making the show. The heat got to me and had to leave early after you lost.
That’s really really cool!! I will be honest, I didn’t know they still did the letterman jacket thing for an event with him, that’s super super awesome! What was also very cool was that epic qualifying pass, I’ll leave it at that for those who haven’t watched the race or this video :-) ..still have all the races left in the countdown, and you guys have a team that is far beyond phenomenal!!!
I know a guy who TAD at the US Nationals 20 something years ago..... I'm pretty sure it was the only NHRA national event he ever won. His NHRA "TAD Winner" Letterman jacket from that race is one of his life-long prize possessions. I haven't seen him in many years but I'm sure he still wears that jacket from time to time.
I was there Saturday and got one of your awesome shirts. It's a great color and has a sweet depiction of the dragster launching. It's an instant classic, and I'll wear it with pride. Btw, that door makes all the difference. Thanks from a fan who has listened to too many loud noises in my life. The sweetest of those being a nitro engine grunting down the track.👍👍
What’s up Doug, nice to see a cameo on the channel,,,, stop on that loud pedal without tire spin lolnice clay and sister’s, thanks BigAl California.praise Jesus Christ grace amen 🙏
Wasn't scared but boy howdy was getting nervous, had the faith in you and the whole team to pull it out. Glad to see Doug again and happy to see your family with you for the weekend
Really awesome video again Clay 🤘 I remember watching your big “I.H.R.A.” Championship in Canada at “Grand Bend Dragway” which is an awesome drag strip to attend & with the Grand Bend beach on the big lake just down the road a.k.a. “The Strip” with bars/restaurants on both sides of the strip & all the way down until it hits the big beach/lake 🤙
I forgot to mention that when you were racing at “Grand Bend Dragway” during your I.H.R.A. days & you would walk amongst the camping ground just chatting with people & signing autographs etc. It was so cool of you to do Clay & I’m sure it gained you more fans! 😃
Such a wonderful team to follow and support so thank you for bringing us along this amazing adventure, Clay. Rick is a terrific human being with a gracious soul that has faith in the entire team and it shows with TWO Wallys so far and we know there will be more this year. Gotta say, the RWR Summit / Parts Plus / Biohaven / Valvoline car is the prettiest car in all of NHRA Top Fuel. It was also neat to see the Duster throwback from our youth--how time flies and that definitely brought back some memories. That was a special treat for sure but being honest, the Iggy & Milli doggo show at both the beginning and the end of the video was epic! Cheers!
Dear Mr. Millican, First, Mr. 4 Speed... Then, *Mr.Stringer??* You know what a fan of Stringer Performance I am. THEN *DONNA CAM AND DOUBLE DUTY AUSTIN and John Kiernan with a beard!!* I've never seen Jim-0 more intense but It's a good day for me here in little Hayden Idaho.. Thank you sir. (P.S. I saw the "My Place" decals on the skirts of the car, a great place for Iggy and Millie)
Well I gotta give Rick Weir credit where credit is due... He is living the world of drag racing as a front runner... Hero or zero is a rollercoaster ride on the best of weeks... Guy must have nerves of steel... Next year? I got great hopes for you guys...
That was awesome, and you are correct. When Kaylynn comes in your views goes up. As a clutch person I listen to every word she says (she is smart), and so are the rest of the team. Of to Santa Pod England tomorrow for our finals in Nitro funny car with my new tee shirt and we will Stomp on that loud pedal too..
That was tight though. They have to find that Gremlin! And TAKE IT OUT! RWR TF Team is Strong! They will get it figured out. Jimo is doing the best he can and you couldn't ask for more! Can't wait to see the finals!!
That sure was a lot of drama and pressure, and what a relief to see you get through that. That was a heck of a run! Great to see you get those bonus points too. 😊
Love the story and stories of people's race car numbers. Mine is 52. My dad and 4 other guys brought a late model 57 Chevrolet back in the day for $500. The car was number 5 for the 5 guys. When I was 8 years old I started go kart racing my number was 2 it was just me and my dad just the 2 of us. Later in life I got a late model #2 was taking so I put my dad's number first 5 my go kart number second 2 and got 52. Later in life my daughter was born May 2,1996. 5/2/96. So 52 is my number.
Jim O is not only going to figure out cold tracks, but this whole team is going to bring in a championship with Jim O as crew chief. Yall are really finding your stride as a team and anyone that has been around watching the last year knows how big of a part Jim O has played in that.
In The Big Show? Nerves rattled with each Q run? Well maybe you need Nitro X to calm those anxieties. Money Back Guaranteed if not satisfied. LoL. Make it into the show Clay and team or I may have to order Nitro X!!!
I keep seeing the crew working around the motor while it's running and thinking, isn't the un-burnt fuel from exhaust or just the exhaust messing up their lungs??? Just thinking, not being critical. Perhaps it would be something to look into??? Best Always and in ALL WAYS, Chris Zinn
I’m not sure I’ve come across a piston sitting almost perfectly upside down inside inside a sleeve before, lol.. I’ve already left a couple other comments and I’ve been to this video but I was sitting here thinking about that :) You all are the best!
