@@loislewis5229 Anthropology has never done a great job at presenting its research to regular folks. Speaking just of archaeology most work is never published, lots of it is in field reports, grey literature, or presentations at conferences. Most published work is in small press journals and written for academics. Few people end up with easy access and that leaves it to the media to select what they want to present. And that leads us to ancient aliens and Graham Hancock. Stefan's efforts have made it accessible and synthesized a lot of research most people are totally unaware of and it's clear he enjoys doing it.

Love your channel! Especially appreciate a few things: 1. Amazing interviews! Love the experts you bring in and you manage to balance deeply technical discussion with explanations almost anyone can understand. 2. Willing to state when you (or no one knows) and explain why. 3. Willing to address the controversies without cowtowing to conspiracies. 4. Humanizing even our most ancient relatives. I remember you once using the term "woman" instead of "female" or "creature" to describe I think an Austaulapithicus. And you do that with every individual or group you discuss. 5. Your charming, dorky, adorably awkward presentation style.

I used to be absolutely obsessed with archeology as a kid. My teacher would tell me every time we were to read a book in school that at some point I'm going to have to read an actual novel instead, not just about archeology, sharks, or dinosaurs. I lost that touch for a long time as other passions took over, but your channel certainly brought that back, so thanks and merry Christmas Stefan. Shot in the dark: Since so many of us struggle with sleep, and there’s always all these brands and ads claiming their product gets you to sleep “the way we evolved to” I’d love to see a video explaining how we’ve evolved to sleep. Could we still sleep in trees? Do we have any vestigial traits from the ways we used to sleep? When did we start sleeping on the ground? Is side-sleeping optimal? What, where, and how do we think Neanderthals slept? Do we have any record of early beds/nests/pillows? What sort of paleo/neolithic beds do we have? I’d love to know how the “bear-rug” evolved to the modern bed today and what approaches different peoples/cultures took to get us here. Doesn’t need to be all prehistory either! Just an idea!

I love what you said about the importance of spending time with your family while they are young. My hubby and I did the same thing. After 7 years we were finally blessed with a child. After the first year we decided to completely change our lives. We sold the big house and the fancy car that the bank owned and moved to a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. To a house that’s over 100 years old and a car that we pay $2000 for. We haven’t had to work to survive and have got to spend these precious years with our daughter. Sure, we don’t have enough money for lots of things, but we eat and pay our bills. This time with her has been so much more important than a nicer car or new fancy clothes, or a holiday. Hubby is going back to work soon, but the last 8 years were amazing.

Thank you Stefan! My dad wad a physical anthropologist at Harvard-(a bone guy) when I was growing up, and had an office at the Peabody Museum in Cambridge, where I was allowed to roam about often...loved the place, loved.him, miss him, and still fascinated by natural history, human history, fossils, geology, etc. When I was eight or nine in the early Sixties, Louis Leakey visited us up in Gloucester when he was visiting the States and spread out Lucy's bones on our big kitchen table and he and my Dad had a great time discussing the Leakey's discoveries. Later on Louis showed us kids how to do African string figures... My Dad would have loved the amazing DNA revelations on human origins and populations that have happened since his lifetime! Thanks again for your fascinating videos...I became a musician, not a scientist like my parents but I still love this stuff! Looking forward to more of your work in 2024!!

Hey mate, not really a comment on YT type of guy but it deserves to be said that your channel is easily my favourite out of everything I subscribe to on the platform by the long shot. Your videos are the only ones I'll down tools for and watch immediately as they're released. Well researched, always fascinating subjects, but most importantly not too dry and not "trying too hard" - just the right level of sogginess for my cringe-sensitive sensibilities. I think it's probably your very obvious genuine enthusiasm and curiosity that gets people hooked and and craving more. Not being talked down to or lectured at, it always just feels like you're saying "guys, look at this crazy thing I'm learning about." 10/10. Big fan.

As a random guy who bashes rocks together i can highly recommend doing it! I’ve found peace with the fact that at this rate of practice and without caving in and buying nice flint and chert online I’ll probably be old and grey before i can make a biface axe that’s worth looking at but just the feeling of being able to see potential in random rocks, and actually be able to do stuff with it is very satisfying. With a little bit of elbow grease and patience you can make quite a lot with what is basically a sharp rock. It is fun and the whole process makes you look differently at your surroundings, i can feel the neurons in my brain connecting to my inner Ooga Booga. And it is grand. It’s also just a great “excuse” to go outside more. Your channel is amazing, your enthusiasm infectious. Keep doing what you want, passion will always speak to people. You’re “ the real deal” that’s why I watch. “History For Granite” so glad you’re having him on.

Congrats on many excellent videos Stefan! I’d love a video on the Polynesian expansion from Taiwan into the Pacific. The interactions of the Polynesians and the Melanesians as well as homo floriensus. Fascinating stuff. Happy 2024!

Yes please. Bronze transition. Part of that will hopefully be what even is copper age. I want to know so much more about the copper age, I've found very little on that subject that is thorough.

I’m a psychotherapist in private practice. I loved anthropology in college over 20 years ago! Minored in it. and I actually pull from “evolutionary psychology” to explain human behavior and explain things to my patients- even though I don’t have the expertise in specifically that area of study. - but I think I continue to learn a lot from all you amazing RU-vidrs!!! lol so I’m glad there are people like you! And YOU! To keep me in the realm of anthro and archeology. Also, selfishly, not related to my work, I love this! And your videos are honestly my Favorite! 👏🏼 As I continued to listen- I think it would be fun and interesting if you and your wife travel to Vietnam and did a little local street food and maybe find out the source/need of the meals. And then also travel to sites also as well. I’m sure it’s easier said than done being that you two have kids 😵‍💫

You say you've seen "all the comments" about your being out of shape 9:32, so I won't bother with my "flaccid polliwog" one. Still, I want to thank you, Stefan for being a great teacher and fun classroom. Your scientific brilliance is exhibited through your reluctance and uncertainty. Thanks, mate!!
