Why do I love these kind of videos so much? It's just awesome to see that there are people taking time for these huge old machines. Just beautiful to watch, and hear.
Sorry guys, but the engine will put out something in the order of 250 to 300 HP. HP is work x time. How much weight is lifted in how much time. Torque is a measurement of twisting force. RPM x Torque = HP. More RPM less torque or less RPM and more torque. Most performance cars will put more power out than that engine but that engine will run 24/7 at 300hp where as the performance car engine will ware out after a few hours at that rated HP.
Hi. First off, 2 cycle and 2 stroke have identical meanings and are equally appropriate. Second, this is a really neat engine. i agree that it also has almost musical qualities to the way it is run. i often wondered if it were possible to rig up a way for a diesel (or any engine for that matter) to control the ignition pulses in such a way as to really time it to, or create music with it, much like a player piano reads a "tracker bar", only the "composer" is timed to the engine. fascinating idea
I want to see/ hear some of these engines run under a load. all the videos of these old beasts running Ive found are with no load or a joke of a "load"
Large hydrolic pump, with a Restriction type Ventury, and a resivior tank, or an old Cement Pump, filled with Clay. My recomendation for a load source.
No. There are two common types of engines. 4-Stroke and 2-Stroke (usually improperly called "2-cycle.") That number refers to how many strokes of the piston the engine must make to complete a full power cycle, before it starts the next one. In a 4-Stroke it takes 4 strokes of the piston to complete the cycle of Intake-Compression-Power-Exhaust. In a 2-Stroke it only takes 2. Hope that helps.
yes finally someone who sees it the way i do catalytic converters are also worse than just a clean well tuned older engine and also egr puts dirty exaust back thru a clean engine and pollutes the fresh air charge and destroys an engine sooner the less restrictions an engine has to deal with the better the engine runs more effiiently and lasts longer with less damage to the atmosphere
+Federico Lucchi (Skycrater) it was a pretty stupid one, considering you're talking about an engine that weighs 20 - 40 tonnes or over, and you asked if it could go in a crumby 1 and a half tone family car commonly driven by chavs.
Thanks for the reply Dylan. I know it's a hit&miss. I was just thinking it would be neat to hear it run steadily under load since it has such a nice rhythm when firing on all six cylinders. Not a continuous load, just for an occasional demonstration using something like the Baker fan they belt tractors to for load testing. Just a thought. Nice restoration!
Never quite got it warmed up and running properly. This type of engine would have been fitted to the Fleetwood trawlers. Started up in Fleetwood fish dock and not stopped again until it was back in Fleetwood again having sailed up to Iceland and back.6 cyl 4 stroke diesel.
No electronic BS, no DEF, no EPA. Used common sense to build these engines to run slow and to last for years and years! Back when people had brains and used them!
Hi Shaneequa! well, i did say they get good mileage didn't i so i don't totally dislike them. Jeff Dunham's really funny when he does a gig on the Prius check it out if have not already seen it i think it will even make you laugh if your a Prius owner!
Some 2 strokes have exhaust valves like an EMD, detroit diesel uniflow or it can be poppet valved loop scavenged 2 stroke, not sure, im sure your motor has total loss oil burn off consumption which may require straight 40w low or no ash oil
Fuck that. Put it under a constant load. Use it to power the lights at the fairground/museum it's at when they're open. The engine was designed to work. Put it to work.
When you think about it even using the computer with which you wrote this comment wasn't created in a very clean way. In these times you can't avoid polluting planet in one or another way indirectly and i think its useless caring about if lithium for car batteries is actually cleaner than using gasoline. Thats just my opinion.
