Right on. I thought I was going to get sawed off for sure! This was the first fish in a bit that really needed the 8lb test. If I was fishing my usual 6lb mono through and through I would have been toast.
Right on. I thought that thing had me when it wrapped me around that boulder. I rig up like I demonstrate for reservoirs in a couple of videos on my fishing tips playlist but I have 8lb mono on my reals and just use a 6lb leader for Tahoe just to deal with the boulders. Some spots, like the sandy sections I fish in Emerald Bay, don't need the 8lb but I use it in Tahoe no matter what.
You gotta get bells for ur rods! I got 40 of them on Amazon years ago for 10 bucks!! I have missed a lot of fish, but now I have bells and can do what I want and wait for the sound!! Good fish man, happy to see you catching some pigs!!😎
The bells ringing are what wakes me up when I'm napping it out. I always use them when I'm bait fishing. the dozens of videos on my lakes and reservoir fishing and Lake Tahoe shore fishing playlists will verify that!
@@wildernesswithamani1027 Damn i must be blind, I have watched like all ur videos and never noticed🤣 im headed upto tahoe this weekend wish me luck!! I love all ur videos, can't wait to run into you one day! Tight lines Amani😎
Good for you amigo! I got excited for you too! When I first saw him break the top water you could tell right away that was no 14" fish! Good job and thanks for the excitement! yahoo!
I think the Tahoe fishing is about to get good. It's been fishing like mid Winter for a while now but I think that's going to change very soon. Get ready!
Hello Amani, that was an awesome Rainbow, I thought you were going to broad jump to that last rock LOL, but than again you were jumping around with that net between your legs. Awesome fight and catch. Beautiful Rainbow, hopefully it tasted just as good as it looked, the marathon continues.
Man, I was at this exact spot using the same setup the day before you and got skunked! I was about to give up on Logan Shoals, now you're gonna make me go back out there tomorrow morning! Nice fish.
Never surrender! I think the rainbows will start showing up with more consistency now that the food supply is becoming seemingly abundant in the rocks.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 Of course not, I can't give up on the chance for a beautiful Rainbow from the lake! I agree, once we get some more minnows and crawdads by the shoreline, the fishing should heat up. It feels like with this huge winter we had that everything is fishing a month or two behind. Hopefully that means the fishing will be good at the lake well into the summer! Thanks for the reply and good luck out there, hope to see you on the shoreline sometime! 🤙
Great job, my brother, from another mother!!! Your enthusiasm is so genuine, it's contagious. I grew up in Texas, hunting and fishing with my dad, he's not here, but I miss those times. Thank you for bringin back some memories and keep it up.
Right on. You hang on to those epic outdoor memories forever. I have hundreds of videos across my channel playlists that could probably spark a few more memories of good times. Glad you enjoyed the clip.
I was surprised there were no kayakers or paddle boarders on the lake today but maybe if I was closer to Sand Harbor I would have seen some. Once Summer hits there are packs of people floating by while I'm fishing. Get ready for the zoo!
That is not a bad idea. If you go, check out my fishing playlists for my channel and you can maximize your trip with surrounding targets in the area both in the backcountry and places you can drive to.
That's been my go to for decades. I will say this 5'6" rod I picked up was solid in it's first act of service. When that big bow ran into those boulders, I glad to have that extra leverage!
king kong teeth! haha ! dude ur whole advice on 'landing the fish' and planning the cast and aftermath of the bite is really eye opening, specially for tahoe's puzzle boulders. also can u throw a dog a bone and give me some suggestions on where to fish on the west side of the lake?
All of the spots I have fished are on my Lake Tahoe fishing playlist. I have 6 or 7 spots I fish across both States and have over a couple dozen videos. I don't know anything other than that> I might scout some new stuff in the Fall.
It was great to finally meet you out on the river the other week! I’m trying my luck on the California side and watching your video for some inspiration!
Right on brother. Great meeting you too. I got one for my Patreon that day. I'm curious to see what the Truckee looks like on the California side. I'm sure it's raging. I really want to head out east of town and fish but I am confident it's a stained mess. I hope I'm wrong.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 I went to the the little Truckee River today for the first time right before going to Stampede. The water is more clear there than the Truckee I thought. I’m excited to explore more of the California side of fishing.
Awesome! Man, you jump from boulder to boulder; I’d probably break my ankle if I tried that. And this isn’t the first video where you’ve shown agility.
I size it all up before I even start fishing and I make all potential jumps in the area where I think I'll be battling the fish. I live by the words in the clip on my fishing tips playlist "Have a plan for landing fish"!
It's steep but fairly short. Tough while you are on it. Big boulders along the lake. Go left when you get down there and it's easier. Well established trail past the restrooms on the left where the railing is. Chimney Beach hike seems twice as far.
Nice fish dude! Wouldn't you benifit from using a longer rod to keep the fish out of the rocks? Seems like you would have more leverage and a better angle of attack.
If I was looking for easier it would certainly be good to go with a larger rod. I like the challenge and skill required to land fish on ultra light tackle. Evens the odds a bit in rivers and a tough shoreline like Lake Tahoe. If it didn't work it would be a problem but I have dozens of videos that show it's not a problem for me. Just good fun and excitement.
I try to keep things family friendly. If I didn't impose that restriction on myself there would have been a lot of moments when the F Bombs were flying!
If I land fish it's good. I usually use a 5' ultra light rod at Tahoe and if you've seen my Lake Tahoe shore fishing playlist it'd not a problem. I like the skill required and challenge of landing large trout on ultra light tackle so I guess it works for me. I especially like the battle on the big boulders of the Lake Tahoe shoreline. I use 5' ultra light rods when I'm landing those big browns and rainbows in the videos on my river fishing playlists as well. I think it's just a personal preference for me.
Dude what how! My buddy and I fished there yesterday with practically the exact same rigging and no luck, not even a nibble. hahaha BTW Did you lose one of your rod holders in the water to the left of where you were standing? I found one but was unsuccessful in my retrieval😢😂
Wasn't mine. I got my 2. Don't feel bad about not getting anything. My experience fishing there the past few months has been tough and I've been skunked multiple times. My first couple dozen days fishing there I only got skunked once or twice and then this Winter hit and the action for me came to a grinding halt. The fishing will pick up once the crawdads and minnows are present in the boulder environment in large numbers. Recently the Lake is still fishing like it's mid Winter. Those big rainbows come in there in solid numbers to feed when that food source is abundant. I have a few clips on my Lake Tahoe shore fishing playlist where I cut big rainbows open and find their stomachs packed to the gills with crawdads if you haven't seen them and are interested. Give it a couple of weeks. I'll be monitoring the situation.
Amani. That’s a sweet rainbow. But fish at that size are few and far between. Don’t you think they should be released. The little guys I would eat. I’d like your thoughts.
There are a lot of fish that size in Lake Tahoe. At least, that's been my experience. I have clips on my Lake Tahoe shore fishing playlist where I get multiple fish that size in only a couple of hours. I let some go and keep some. They protect the tributaries and the natural fish population in the lake is really strong.
Before this Winter set upon us, I only got skunked a couple times out of me first couple dozen tries. Those big rainbows come into the boulders to gorge themselves on crawdads and minnows once the water temperature is right. If you look at my Lake Tahoe shore fishing playlist, I have a few clips where I cut open big rainbows and their stomachs are bursting with crawdads. It's been fishing like mid Winter up until recently but I feel like the fishing is about to get hot in the boulders based on my experience.
Beautiful rainbow. I'm heading up to Tahoe in mid-late July, should the lake be fished any differently at that time? Also, do you ever catch any whitefish? I was fishing at pebble beach last year and I caught solely whitefish.
I think the Lake in July will be cold still from runoff and be fishing like it should be fishing now. I would get out there at the crack of dawn in July. I've never hit any Whitefish in Tahoe. Browns, rainbows, and mackinaw are all I have caught so far. I have a Lake Tahoe playlist with about 30 videos if you haven't seen them and are interested,
I was keeping my stuff in fairly close. I wanted to stay close to the boulders because the big rainbows will be showing up soon to feast on the abundant crawdads and minnows. I wasn't casting much farther out than the big boulders that the trout was getting me all hung up in. I was just throwing it out to the sides to get wide of those boulders in front which didn't work out in the end! I have clips on my lake Tahoe shore fishing playlist where I get large rainbows 10 feet out beyond the boulders. That's where they will be feeding in numbers real soon.
I'm just curious I remember in your older videos you used size 16 treble hooks I believe instead of using size 18 . I use size 16 and still get nervous when I got a big fish on the line . Is there a reason why you prefer size 18 treble hooks?
I think I've only used size 18 in Tahoe. I like the smaller presentation and I am able to release some fish safely with the tiny hook. I will say that for some reason the tiny hook is in the outer corner of the mouths on many of the larger trout which is sketchy! When the fight isn't going right, like this one, I get way beyond nervous with that size 18 hook!
Typically a move my stuff around every 45 minutes to an hour. I'm always worried I'm sitting in a deep crack between boulders. That could be a good thing seeing all of the crawdads in some of those big rainbow's stomachs I've cut open but who knows. I have several of those clips on my Lake Tahoe shore fishing playlist if you haven't seen them and are interested. Those fish didn't have some crawdads in them, they were stuffed to the gills!
@@wildernesswithamani1027 I appreciate the reply! I also live in the Reno area and have been very hesitant to fish Tahoe but you make it very clear that there’s fish out there 🙌
I used 8lb for my line and then a 6lb leader. I typically go with about a 4 foot leader for my powerbait and a 3 foot leader for my night crawler because they are harder to cast. If my stuff falls between two large boulders I want my bait to be floating as high as possible.
I check my bait ant move my stuff around about every half hour to 45 minutes. I like to probe different depths whenever I bait fish but in Tahoe particularly I don't want my stuff sitting in a bad spot for too long. For instance, there are obviously giant boulders under water and I don't want my bait sitting out of sight between two giant boulders for too long. On the other hand, a big trout might swim through those boulders as it looks for crawdads to eat. I guess what I'm saying is I move my stuff around often to deal with the unknown! There is a lot of that at Tahoe! If I'm fishing a more consistent bottom with a more constant depth I might leave it out longer but I also like to move my stuff in or out closer to and farther away from the shoreline boulders. Always looking for those trout feeding on crawdads and minnows.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 man you gotta try fishing with crawdads seems like it would be money! Thanks for all the info man I really appreciate it specially cause I got snagged a lot out there lol
I have clips on my fishing tips playlist that show you exactly how I like to rig up, bait I use, hooks etc. The only difference from my reservoir rig is that I use 8lb mono with a 6lb leader in Lake Tahoe to help withstand the boulders instead of my usual 6lb mono..
