There is no paradox in terms of sets. The answer is right there: multiple rarities for chase cards. Have super and ultra lower rarity prints of chase cards for players, and have ultimate, Starlight and ghost rare rarities of the same chase cards for the collectors. This should not be a debate. Rarity collection has already shown us that the OCG model of set design that Asia had for the last 2 decades is the best model for both vendors and players.

The "Nintendo no longer allowing a child to dream" story makes me feel terrible for the kid, but is a hilarious meme I hope someone is working on

The Wic Sauce game you mentioned is "Selector Infected Wixoss (We Cross)". It is kinda a magical girl tcg and have 3 anime series that get dark. There are some English versions of the cards

Flesh and blood is about to start doing competitive structure style decks (we call them armory decks) with full sets. So I was really annoyed when I went to build a traptrix deck that I had to buy 3 sets of the structure deck, like it’s just so much paper and cardboard wasted. I really don’t need 3 paper playmats yugioh, I just need a full set of the cards.

Quick comment about being a kid getting into yugioh at this time. I started playing when I was in middle school, around when lair of darkness and wave of light came out. At first I bought tins and other sealed product but it was always kind of a dumpster fire when I played with my brother because we honestly didn’t know what we were doing at all. We played xyz as normal monsters because we didn’t know what one of those were. It’s clear to me know, but the biggest problem for us was that everything already had their archetypes. Even when we tried to play structure decks, we didn’t really understand because the strategies were very specific to that deck, and there was no way for me to mix in my collection into my decks. To a degree, I still have that problem. I still have my cards from my 2018/19 tins but I don’t have the money to build any of the archetypes from those into actual functioning decks, so I always just default to buying 3 of the new structure and even then it takes me a while to remotely comprehend how to play that deck. The main thing that actually got me into yugioh past the dumpster fire state was the old re-releases as that made so much more sense to me and my brother, using cards like summoned skull and not some crazy xyz number card. Your guys’ channel has been a massive help for me in terms of understanding the game, but I still got a long way to go as I’m somewhat on and off as a player. Personally, I wished things were slightly pulled back to be a little more cohesive to see as a newcomer, because when I was younger, every archetype just straight up looked like a different card game

I recently saw special-edition-esque products at GameStop. Just three packs in a small box at a slight discount compared to three individual packs. They had that for Duelist Nexus and Valiant Smashers, I believe.

I opened a 25th Secret Rare Nightmare Apprenitce, and have updated my Ancient Gear deck, so that's been fun.

I really liked this idea of limiting/categorizing effects to the level range of each monster. In that way the game can become more cohesive and we can even get some new formats that are level restricted, which could really result to simple/advanced versions of the game. I doubt they would do it, though, because I don't believe an idea like this has ever crossed Konami's mind, as well as they will have to re-print SO MANY cards in order for them to fit that new version of the game.

Regarding the first topic about rarities in sets and the ideal type of set, i say that the tcg should adopt the Pokemon system like you mentioned. It really is the best way. It pleases the buisness people that treat a cardgame like stocks but also allow everyone to build their favorite decks with the lower rarities and not get humiliated at a locals because they're missing multiple 100$+ staples.

I hadn't played yugioh for a looong time, then I bumped into your videos and I was like "hey, there's people making great yugioh content still! And then I tried Speed Duel and it has been my favourite format since then.

I was in Akiba a couple of weeks ago myself and I struggled finding a store that sold yugioh accessories. I only found the Yugi and Kaiba 25th anniversary sleeves and nothing else, I was mostly looking for playmats. If you guys have any recommendations, my friend is going this summer and I can tell him where to go. Side note my favorite store was the one in Osaka that had Yusei's duel runner.

Man I play Speedroid and Windwitches and Gustos as a deck called “Speedwitches”. I swear this ban list hurt me more as a duelist with Baronne De Fleur being banned and I lost her to the banlist. Plus, she was my setup with Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon and Clear Wing Synchro Dragon as well. Smh 🤦🏾‍♂️ 😢… I guess my favorite card game is slowly telling me goodbye because I cannot play the game as much with the financial burden I’m in as a duelist with disabilities and not able to afford the top game cards anymore or play them in motivation as well.

For the onboarding product they should do the Speed Duel type box but make it revolve around the Visas lore since it has 4 very strong decks that would not only teach all 4 Extra Deck mechanics but they teach players about interesting gimmicks that they could encounter along the way ie special summoning in adjacent columns, zone locking, level manipulation, milling and alternative summoning conditions (shuffling materials from GY to deck to fusion summon or not requiring a tuner for a synchro summon). Or they could make one revolving around Odd-Eyes since that’s the only archetype that uses all the Extra Deck summoning mechanics plus Ritual summoning and it’s a pendulum archetype

Stone rain used to be referred to as "salt rain" because it destroys a land. Many have altered the art changing the rocks to salt rocks lol. 😂😂 This guy upset some friend when he was young and is still gloating over it 😂.

1:04:07 collecting Red-Eyes cards is the reason kept up with yugioh after all these years. I wish I could have 138,000 of them! And a silver Chevy traverse to store them in! I don’t think you can do that with yugioh though. If you buy too much you might get flagged for trying to manipulate the market or something. I tried to buy out someone’s stock of “Red-eyes fusion” (about 15-20, various editions), but he wouldn’t sell them cause he thought I knew something and was trying to buy low, sell high. I was like, no, it’s a terrible card, I just want them. He let me take half and said save some for everyone else and I figured, yeah that’s fair. Next time I saw him he was like “so how much did you make from those cards?” After a bit of confusion, it finally made sense why some storefronts empty your cart if you try to buy 50 of the same card. Anyway, I’m guessing Stone Rain is just a pack filler card that he already had a lot of. ‘Big Number’ was his only goal, so something easy to get a ton of and gets re-printed every rotation, is better than anything meta-relevant. 1:48:34 winged kuriboh

Thank you for mentioning the Salamangreat AE Structure Deck. I've been lamenting not getting Raging Phoenix when no one cared about it! I honestly don't need most of the deck but I might as well pick up the new cards.

I don’t think it’s an issue of cards being cheap or lower rarity, or viceversa. I think it’s an issue of a lack of usefulness in a way. If we were to have multiple formats, it would force us to analyze cards beyond a single column which is the competitive advance format. If, for example, you were to pull a secret rare that doesn’t see competitive play in advance format, but you know it’s great on say something like Deck Master format or something like that, there would be an incentive for you to use that card or sell it to someone who plays it, instead of being stuck on a binder for the longest time. As it stands, either Konami has to make just banger sets continuously that most cards in those sets directly make highly competitive format (like what happened in duelist alliance) or needs to widen the usefulness of cards beyond assuming “oh, hero players will pay 60 dollars for their new support card as a secret rare” even though it won’t actually allow them to compete on a high competitive level because the extremely good decks at the top just annihilate them. However, If hero was an extremely fun deck master deck with lots of potential, (or any other alternative format that uses modern cards), there would be a point to hero players getting that support and feel good about it.

An arc-v speed duel set would be a great way to teach each type of summoning given the theme of that show and the different dimensions.

Skill Drain event sounds like a good time to bust out Dark World

1:42:27 I think that for a lot of people ongoing serious have replaced the role that movies used to fulfill. I rarely used to watch movies due to finances growing up, but I actually watch even less movies now because I often feel like I get a better storytelling experience from a longer series than I do from a movie. I could be projecting a bit/biased, but i know most of my friends would probably voice a similar opinion.

Stone Rain is a classic card that's pretty easy to come by, but it's pretty notable for being a great land destruction card, only costing 3 mana to destroy any land, which is a mechanic, WotC has largely done away with, bc it just heightens the whole "mana screw" thing. If an opponent is playing multiple colors especially, you could use stone rain to rid them of their only land, capable of playing parts of their deck. It also sets them back a whole turn, mana wise. WotC simply won't print a land destruction card as good as Stone Rain in standard play sets.

I mean, Im pretty sure the set isnt that hyped because there arent many good cards in it? If there were common SPs and Chaos Angels, the set would get sold like crazy, even tho theyre common I dont understand your argument but maybe Im missing something

I think it is always important to remember, there are people who run the social media pages, and they *do not* get to make any decisions for Konami.

As someone who just got into yugioh/got back, hearing about SP and she of overlord makes me sad about the price range but I still want to play and this new set makes it more simple to get a good deck without breaking the bank completely

I completely agree with the idea that archetypes shouldn't be the high dollar cards. If almost every box had 1 or 2 new archetypes or really good support for existing and they were that accessible the Yugioh products would fly off the shelves and prices would get cheaper as a result of a rise in supply and demand. This makes way more sense and with more access to the cards the likelihood your deck would ever go above $80 is unlikely and as of decks eventually fall over time the future budget decks might be not even be $15.

I'm actually looking to get a Ragnaraika Playset (haven't figured out yet what I'll be combining it with). My son & I love making odd /underdog Archtypes Decks. He currently plays Tistina (to the frustration of many people) at locals. It so much fun when he is able to go full combo and OTK his opponents. Also, keep up the awesome content. Love watching all your videos.

This set isn't hitting because you only have Yugi's cards and Tenpais to chase. I'm not interested in either.

Despite Zucks missteps with the metaverse, having the quest headset at 300-400 dollars to play basically any vr thing without being tied down to proprietary systems is amazing. If Zuck finds a way to release the vr glove at an affordable price, he can definitely corner the vr gaming space

Alec, have you tried the SRW games? There are 4 in English on the Switch and PlayStation (4 and 5, I think). It's a Turn-based Strategy series, like Final Fantasy Tactics, but it focuses on a bunch of robot series with one of the biggest being Gundam. One of the games has Cowboy Bebop which was a cool but weird addition since it's not a robot anime BUT that game lets you assign music to different attacks so each of my robot's strongest attacks had TANK! playing...wish all of the games had that song, lol.

LEDE is a great set for me as I want to play four of the archetypes included. With little meta impact I've been able to trade for everything I need at locals, so I can't complain about this set!

Please mention about the busted support some decks get, while older decks like fluffal are left in the dark.

From what I understand Hareruya has a monopoly on MTG as far as card shops in Japan go. Also no there is no significance to the card Stone Rain it's just a card that can destroy a single land.

So guys at my store were talking about Legacy of Destruction (which is a fine set, lets be real) but there were some weird clumping issues with the commons and rares. My box didn't seem to have that issue, but out of the dozen or so boxes, there are several commons that have very low numbers, and a few that have massive inflated numbers. Most coming from the same box. Very odd.

Since I didn't see it anywhere, I wanted to provide a small clarification about that Japanese card game growth list: Yugioh didn't have an increase of 3% it was 103%, meaning that it more than doubled the previous year, as did the first game on that list. If it was the way you guys seemed to have interpreted it, then every card game after Yugioh would have been at a LOSS from the previous year. 😂

I'm not really interested in the new Legacy of Destruction set mostly because I'm just not seeing anything introduced that I want to play. It's rare a new archetype catches my eye, and I haven't found a new one I liked since Mikanko came out. I'll get a couple of the booster packs to see if there's anything good to put in decks I already use, but overall, I am kinda just meh about it. Just isn't a set for me, I guess.

That LOB set collection is so fire for someone with the $ for it

Ya know Alec,as a fellow star wars enjoyer i was incredibly iffy on it getting a tcg,but now...i have cards and have played the game,gotta say it's actually quite fun,if you gave it a chance i think you would really like it,coming from someone who really didn't want it to exist at first. Its very much like MTG meets Pokemon in some regards but also has it's own flavor and rules.

Looking at the list of the top 15 Japanese card games and I have cards from 11 of those games in Japanese, Build divide do a mix of original cards an anime collab cards, iirc their original cards have a partially textured card back which is kinda nice, rebirth for you is another anime collabing tcg, union arena is getting an English release which is kind of annoying because the price of Japanese booster boxes have gone up -.- at least in my experience, also i live in the uk an there aren't many places that stock Japanese stuff in the first place, but sometimes it's nice to but these other games the cards are pretty nice and the boxes are quite cheap.

I don't think Snake-Eyes will need hits because we have a lot of busted decks and if you thought that Snake-Eyes was bad then your definitely not going to like when Yubel(with Phantom of Yubel), White Woods Runick, White Woods Spright, Centurion(post Infinite Forbidden), and Magical Musketeer Fiendsmith steal Snake-Eyes thunder. There will be more than 1 good deck post Infinite Forbidden and Snake-Eyes as they are now might be the fifth best deck when it comes out because decks like Unchained that started having consistency issues will be fixed by the Fiendsmith support. You are about to see Caesar and board breakers everywhere. The only restriction they placed on Sanctus was that you can only attack with fiend monsters. With all the space Yubel has you can easily fit the Fiendsmith package in as a 8 card engine and run 15 non-engine with Super Polymerization at 3 copies as one of them and Caesar + Phantom of Yubel + Valdrath is 4 negates. It keeps going with Rage into S:P and board breaker/hand trap/Yubel The Loving Defender Forever. Konami genuinely screwed up when they didn't ban Caesar. They may have even screwed up by not making the Fiendsmirh archetype exclusive to light fiends. I'm excited and terrified at the same time. Especially since Yubel will be using Yama to take the 3 extra deck monsters that makes Unchained good and use them better than Unchained.

But pokemon does the league decks. They’re 30$ but the new gardevoir one is super competitive full of staples

I agree that staples should be hard to get and cost more and the archetypes can be cheap and easy to get and to make the high rarity chasers and people who wants to max rarity there decks They can have a separate set come out similar to the 25th anniversary and instead of reprinting everything they'll rarity bump the archetype cards

Here’s a thought; new archetypes core cards introduced should all start low rarity and the next set following the introduction of said archetype should all get rarity bumped this could also be done in reverse but the latter makes it accessible to new players being budget

My town sucks because I can only get cards at Walmart or online. The card shop in my town is sport card focused they have a little Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon but I've tried lots of times to just bring cards to trade or get cash I always get the run around. Even told to go to elsewhere.

Yeah I know this is a hot take: I way prefer this set. AGOV was nice, IF you pulled the expensive meta card. If you pulled all the TGs your box was worthless because the commons and super were fluf. They managed to make get it right for Power of the Elements and Darkwing Blast where there was good cards at all rarity but it hasn't really happened since. Edit: Yeah I like Paul's take.

Hey guys, weekly viewer here on the channel, just thought I’d drop in and say I stopped playing yugioh in 2008 and it was speed duel that got me back into it, I’m now a daily player and have spent hundreds since getting back into it, but I’m having a blast! 😅

Wixoss gives you playsets of playable cards in their starter decks! Should be the way Yugioh does it as well. Gives you a false sense of what the Yugioh game is when you pick up a precon deck from the store and you get one copy of each card.

I actually like playing Skill Drain decks.
