Why won't you play War Thunder?
▪️ I raged at getting sniped by tanks that I could never see. Also nonsense like turning bushes off that helps you perform better. That seems like a terrible design to me. War Thunder also had drama several years ago about the CEO calling the fanbase to help strike down channels or using copyright strikes to eliminate channels entirely. That is such abuse of power and dictatorial nonsense that I refuse to play a game created by such a company.

Cliffhanger has me excited. It seems like most of the time your armor lets you tank a lot of damage, but instead of focusing on enemy BB/BCs, you might want to focus on killing light and armored cruisers as you can sink them quickly and reduce the number of guns the enemy are shooting at you, especially when you know their big guns aren't the biggest threat. In this situation the biggest threat is all of the HE the lighter ships can throw.

Idea for when you get the modern CA hull. The Scharnhorst class would be a heavy cruiser with large main guns in the somewhat boring, but practical A,B,X triple configuration. These guns would be backed up by a large amount of secondary guns of many different calibers. Although this is not completely in doctrine, with a lot of armour and secondaries it will also fill the roll of a light cruiser with more survivability.

Well, it’s simple: Once in battle a general decided to wear a red shirt such that his men might not see his blood if he fell. Instead of a red shirt, you ask a nearby sailor for a pair of brown pants. For the Fatherland, even if fear is coming out your rear!

This patch armour calculation is wonky as hell. The whole fleet has 16.9 and 8.9 inch guns and yet a group of CL's is able to consistently block that. At close Range a 16.9" APCBC shell should go through a CL at any angle. Not only that, but it's also incredibly inconsistent. You see the mainbelt block a 16.9" one second and then get over penned by a 8.9"

I think the incosistency comes from the angle of the shot, as a couple of inches quickly becomes a couple of feet of armour when hit lengthwise, now how the game calculates where the shell hits seems a bit wierd as we've seen shells hit the decks of ships that should simply not be possible

@@-tn-kitten8067 The deck hit thing was supposedly fixed in a recent hotfix-patch. Not sure how the game calculates overmatching armour though, if at all?

@@-tn-kitten8067 I could see that. But we're not talking about battleships with double digit amour thickness. We saw CL's and even DD's blocking those shells. What's even more odd is when you look at the percentage of shells blocked. In the early stages of the engagement most hits were blocked when he was exclusively firing at DD's and CL's What's more interesting is that the same was not true for Stealth. His highly armoured, Krupp IV Battleships were blocking a lower percentage of shells than the enemies DD's None of this makes any sense

Jutland all over again. And oddly it’s quite similar to Jutland-the British lose some BCs, the Germans take some damage to the heavy assets and decide it might be best to run. In this game though, I’ve learned one thing-spamming ships to spam shells in battle makes even the strongest BB see a bunch of ships as daunting.

Spam only 1 type/class of ships I usually use the BC for this upkeep cost cause is more expensive have BB's than BC and both can carry a lot of firepower

Excellent micro, I noticed that when late on you made the improvised "Bismark" division, because of the "follow the leader" mechanics of the division, the third ship had a projected course WAY off where you wanted them to go. Basically going the opposite way to get to the back of the line. The projected course lines are green. I suspect if you don't see them, you don't spot the stupid manuver the ship is planning until it is already too late and it has wandered miles from where you want it.

As for that one CL with the gaping side wound that refused to sink, the lack of an exit hole tells me that it hit a magazine and it exploded out the entry point, which is what created that gaping hole, and the list of the ship prevented it from flooding outright.

if this was a real battle it would be a case on the battleship as a concept, to be able to battle any ship and survive with or without support. this was uh... quickly determined to not be the case in ww2 with both the bismark and the prince of whales + repulse, but we'll see in part 2

I just engaged a german fleet as the french. Enemy fleet was 75 ships strong! I meanwhile only had 17. My Modern fleet managed to send 45 of the german ships to the bottom, only losing 10 of my own before retreating due to excess ammunition expenditure.

Wonderful video, as always! I ended up buying the game because your videos made it look so fun! And while I think Cruisers, especially light cruisers, sink far too easily, I also feel like this battle illustrates why you *need* them. Perhaps a Cruiser with the minimum amount of main guns the game requires, and MAXIMUM secondaries? just a thought.

I would've split all out individually and turned tail - let them chase you in order to get into torpedo range and then punish each for getting into range. That is what I do constantly in ambush situations. and for most part it works since the torps are a big ships worst enemy

That only works well when you have comparable spotting range. And the enemy has a large advantage here. He tried doing that TWICE here in this video and had to go back and close the range again just to spot where the shells were coming from.

I've been seeing big task forces in my last few plays. French and UK have been sending out fleets of 10 battleships 20 cruisers, 20-30 light cruisers, 20-30 destroyers, and another 20-30 TP boats if i were to try and play battles that large my computer would just lag out.

I'm by no means an expert, but it seems to me if the enemy has an advantage with faster ships, I'd prioritize targeting their fastest ships. They're the ones doing the spotting for their more distant ships, after all.

In my recent German campaign, I didn’t ally anyone because of the annoying peace deal bugs. Italy imploded first after I took Sardinia, took Corsica from France next, but somehow they are still a thing even with an economy of $500 million. And England, somehow losing 10-20 transports a month still has over $200 billion gdp. But they can’t touch my 72k ton bbs with their 35k bbs. New campaign idea, max armor, or near max with reasonable guns still. I wanna see 12” superstructure armor!

When the enemy has a huge destroyer and cruiser screen, I make contact then retreat all battleship divisions and put the rest on screen. I just don't retreat faster than they can chase. If I don't get all the battleships, it's no big deal. I'll wreck their navy in one fight then mop up later by stringing them out across a lot of water.

How did that CL stay afloat with that gaping hole? Let me turn your attention to the USS Samuel B. Roberts. She was literally blown in half by an Iraqi mine, during Desert Storm. The crew held her together with duct tape, baling wire, zip ties, and whatever rope or string like material they could find.

Why do BBs Baden and Zähringen have to go around Jutland? It's 1923 and the Kiel Kanal was completed in 1895. They should be able to cut right through from Kiel to Cuxhaven.

I wonder if he could actually streighten this taskforce with the ships he had in the English channel, or with the one at the north see, or with one of the two that were between Denmak and Norway, so the battleship wouldn't been unescorted. Because like this there is a very limited amount of things he could do. So could it have benn done?

@@bimbkin2830 I asked because on the video he didn't tried to move them. H talked abaut repairing the ships of the Battle ship group in the North see bu nothing else. Well from what I saw from this encounter so far I believe the enemy battle ships and BC's gonna go dry on ammo so he should target the small ships to reduce the number of incoming shels and maximalize the lost of ships by the enemy. However I don't know what happens when the clock on the top reach 0...

Time to take notes, as I'm facing a similar situation in my Germany campaign. Methinks the AI's capabilities to produce ships should be reduced, considering I'm on Normal and they still managed to build over 100 ships in a few years while at peace. Edit: alright, I've come up with an amazing plan to deal with the British "task force" consisting of 12 BBs, 6 BCs, 23 CAs, 40 CLs, and 103 DDs: when they approach, I run away... While trying to take as many British ships down as possible. In the first engagement, I'm aiming to take out as many fast-movers as possible (DDs and CLs) so then their ability to keep my BBs spotted is diminished. Then, in subsequent engagements, knock out more of their fast-movers while taking out any CAs, BCs, and BBs that appear without taking too much damage myself. Rinse and repeat until I can take their fleet on in a head-on engagement. Edit 2: Fortunately for me, I don't have to enact that plan yet, as the giga-fleet is in the Mediterranean right now.

You are going to need a better range finder. Your battleships should be able to engage them from further out.

Range finder is not the problem: I need a spotter. I need taller/better towers and ideally radar.

@@Stealth17Gaming Oops, sorry. I forgot that range finders are more for gun accuracy than spotting. But yeah, you need better spotting capabilities like radar which I am not sure you can get in the 1920's. However, better towers would work. A change of research priorities might be needed.
