@@TurtleTurtlez lol same and the Lee Evans not pulling the ball in and letting the defender swipe it out at the last second. Then Billy Cundiff misses terribly, (which wasn’t that surprising to me cuz Billy Cundiff wasn’t great, but considering the circumstances like bro at least get us to overtime!) We went from a probable win, to an almost certain tie, to a loss in one fell swoop!
All mentions are valid. I’ll still never forget when the ravens almost ruined the Pats perfect season with Kyle Boller playing the best game of his life lol. That game meant so much Bc of how bad we were at the time, offensively
I'm actually surprised he didn't go with the AFC Divisional when we gave up 28 points to Andrew Luck after being up 35-7 and lost 45-44. That one stung.... #ChiefsKingdom
I’d say the Bengals’ biggest choke was the 2016 wildcard. Never have I seen a team self destruct harder. Also I’d say the Saints choked harder in 2019. I know the missed PI was abysmal but they only scored 13 on 3 early red zone opportunities, blew that lead, let the Rams drive down the field to tie the game, and Brees being picked off in OT.
Yeah I really have to disagree with Barry on this one, and I say that as a completely objective viewer. The bangles overachieve to get to the Super Bowl I would not call it a choke whatsoever especially with the involvement of the refs and the fact that everyone expected the Rams to steam roll over them
You weren’t kidding about the “Game Where Jake Delhomme’s Career Died.” He had been a pretty solid starter for years at that point. He had rough games occasionally, but was very consistent. That Cardinals game did something to him and he just completely imploded. It was astonishing and agonizing to watch.
As a young Chiefs fan, I feel a little conflicted about your selection. The first game that came to mind when I saw the title was the blown 38-10 lead against the Colts in the 2013 Wild Card game -- a collapse that seemed unmatched. However, when comparing the circumstances of that game to the 2021 AFCCG, I see the argument Barry is making. The 2013 team was by no means an offensive juggernaut, and was led by an only above average QB in Alex Smith. Meanwhile, the 2021 team would never have been expected to blow even an 18-point lead when led by an all-time great QB in Mahomes and an overall lethal offense. What makes it worse is how other-worldly Mahomes was in the first half. The game felt out of reach for the Bengals, and suddenly Mahomes looked like the worst QB in the NFL.
I agree, the Colts game was the biggest blown lead by any in Playoffs history and that will not be forgotten. Tbh I didn't even remember that we blew an 18 point lead to the Bengals, I guess that's because with how good both offenses were a lead like that isn't really that big. The Bengals game was definitely more frustrating, but I really don't think it was the bigger choke.
As a longtime Chiefs fan it did honestly look like it was going to be a blowout in the First half. How strange was it that not getting any points right before halftime seemed like an Oman, even in real time.
I think in context, the Chiefs and Colts were much more closely matched and the Chiefs were lucky to be up that much, and if they had won it still wouldn’t have meant much because they’re not beating those Broncos. But the Bengals this year were the biggest frauds in NFL history, it took the Chiefs worst half of the season for the Bengals to barely squeak one out in OT. The Bengals were terrible and a SB trip was at stake, it was a massive choke.
@Fries in case you’re not an NBA fan, back in 1997, Sprewell choked then-Warriors coach P.J. Carlesimo in practice for telling Sprewell to make better passes. The rest is history
for Jacksonville i wouldve personally gone with the 2017 AFC Championship game, as they had a mind bogglingly good defense leading them to a 14-3 and 20-10 lead against the Patriots. Sure, they didn't have high expectations, but its still a choke nonetheless.
2017 AFC Champ game was more of a fix-job than a choke. 1999 AFC Champ game was a choke in every imaginable way. Jags forced 4 turnovers, had a halftime lead, and still lost by 19.
Refs helped get Brady back to the SuperBowl too. Myles Jack had a fumble recovery and (while remaining untouched) a clear lane to the end zone, but the play was blown dead. Jacksonville would have up 27-10 and as a lifelong Jaguars fan, I genuinely believe we would have held them off with that extra momentum boost. I even think we might have won the Super Bowl if we made it, looking back, the Eagles and the Jags were very similar teams that season. With Foles leading Philly, both teams had serviceable offenses with game managing quarterbacks and were lead by stout defensive units that made huge plays and were the heart of the 2 teams success. It probably would’ve been a low scoring, defensive slug fest of a Super Bowl. If only the Jags won that game… (and if only they managed not to completely fuck up the roster. That front office overpaid Bortles while also running off just about every defensive anchor to turn “Sacksonville” to “Sad-sonville” or if you want 2 even worse jokes, “need to go Backsonville” and “went off Tracksonville” 😭 anyway that’s my rant about the 2017 AFCCG, AKA: the only relevant year for Jax since 1999. All I can hope is that Doug Pederson manages to pull another miraculous season from out his ass and this time continue to succeed as a HC, only time will tell and I wish him luck.
@@WriterBrandonMcNulty I’m with you 100% seems like every now and then the Jags have a great season and manage to advance all the way to the AFCCG, but then, while on the doorstep of our first SB appearance just manage to let it slip out of their hands. Shit is depressing
@@davidthompson7703 as a birds fan myself, i was more scared of playing the Jaguars than the Pats after what i saw them do to Pittsburgh, and i do think that at least back then they would've had the upper hand. same scenario with the Vikings and Saints game, i was more scared of playing the saints because before his decline in production, Drew Brees (god rest his soul) was an excellent game manager.
I’m still amazed that the Jaguars lost 3 consecutive games to the same team in one season. For some reason, those Jags just always fell apart after the second half. Or the Titans simply had their number.
The Titans were the best team the Jags had to face all year, being a 13-3 wildcard team. Statistically speaking they had one of the easiest schedules ever when you ignore Tennessee being there, if I remember correctly.
@@TaintedNimbus That’s true. They didn’t play a team over .500 (except the Titans) until the divisional round against the Dolphins. I was amazed though that a team that kicked so much ass in their first playoff game could lose all of that momentum the following week in the biggest game of the year. I don’t think Coughlin knew how to game plan or motivate very well.
As a Saints fan, it's easily the Beastmode Game against the Seahawks, the year after we won the Super Bowl. We needed just one person, ONE. PERSON. To tackle him and he ran straight through our defense.
Oh yeah. 7-9 team against an 11-5 one (granted the Saints were on the road) with the Seahawks being a below average offense at best going against an arguable top 5 defense in the Saints. The Saints defense imploded against them, giving up 41 points and wasting a 400 yard game by Brees.
I would actually go with the blowout loss to the packers in 2017 instead. I know they didn't blow a lead as big as the SF game, but there were still several things that the Giants did wrong. First was the obvious boat trip and OBJ having a bad game. There was also giving up the touchdown right before halftime, and in general one of the NFL's best defenses that year getting destroyed by Rodgers. But I would say what makes this playoff loss the worst in Giants history was what happened afterwards. The following year the team completely fell apart and hasn't recovered since. The OBJ/Landon Collins era Giants should've lasted longer, but that loss destroyed it all before it really got off the ground.
SB 39 wasn't the Philadelphia Eagles' worst choke in history. It wasn't even close. New England was the favored team. SB 15 against the Raiders (a team they beat handily in the regular season) was worse especially considering how hyped up everyone was after beating the evil Dallas in the 1980 NFC Championship Game. But the worst worst WORST Eagles choke EVER was the 2002 NFC Championship Game. That game was absolutely theirs for the taking and the Eagles would have destroyed the 2002 Raiders in the Super Bowl had they got there. But they didn't because they choke choke choked. PS: The 2008 Giants divisional playoff game was not a choke on part of the Giants. The Eagles just played hard and whooped their butts all day.
Yeah I wouldn’t even consider the Bucs game a top 3 choke considering Brees was a walking medical disaster at that point. No Hill or Murray which would’ve helped considering Kamara was averaging around 4.5 YPC on the ground. Harris went out early after killing the Bucs on special teams. MT was playing on one ankle. That loss is more explainable and less of a choke (really isn’t one imo) than 2017, 2010, or 2011.
There’s no way you can have the Super Bowl over the 1st round of the playoffs when Pac-Man, Vontezz, and the rest of the Bengals cost that team their only playoff win in the Marvin Lewis era.
as a bengals fan, in a vacuum that was the biggest choke but given that was a wild card game and not the Bengals first Superbowl appearance in 30 years it's hard not to say the super bowl was the biggest choke
@@bt-a4622 see I maintain that the Bengals this year made it that far in an insane run that was so unexpected I was making bets in triple figures in favor of KC. But that 2016 run (I believe that was the year correct me if I’m wrong) was the last real year the Bengals had in the Marvin Lewis era to get somewhere in the playoffs beyond the first round. I hear what you’re saying but I’ve maintained the position that Cincinnati went on the most Cinderella run I’ve seen in a while and I couldn’t believe they made it that far.
For the panthers I would’ve done Super Bowl 50. They were one of the greatest all around teams of the whole 2010s that seasons and they let Peyton Manning score more points than them when he couldn’t throw the ball any further than 30 yards. And I’ll never forget when Can Newton jumped away from the fumbled ball.
Panthers should be that year they played Patriots in the super bowl, considering that the kicker botched the kickoff to put patriots at the 50, to get the game winning field goal.
@@kevinbond8966 all Manning had to do was not turn it over alot. Panthers were 15-1 and in the super bowl because their defense got an insane amount of turnovers putting their offense in or near field goal range. The game was basically which qb is going to not screw over their defense.
Arizona Cardinals, it's the "Crown their ass" game vs. the Chicago Bears in 2006, hands down. They blew a 20 point 2nd half lead with the Bears getting 0 offensive touchdowns!
As a Jets fan I just knew they would choke that game away. Most Jets thing ever to beat the Pats; but then lose to some garbage basement team the next week to miss the playoffs
@@LoboFan1000 I believed in that team. It was also the most Ryan Fitzpatrick thing to have an amazing season just to throw 4 picks and do nothing against the dogshit Bills lol.
Happy Easter Barry. Your humor and commentary are off the rails yet hilarious (like in a good way off the rails) but on a wholesome note, your videos make the world less dark 🎸🤘
Absolutely no way that the Bengals' biggest choke wasn't what happened in the 2015 AFC wild card game against Pittsburgh. Getting the game-sealing INT in your own territory then fumbling it away is already pretty bad - add to that some defensive incompetence and a bunch of horrific self-destructive penalties, and you've got the single greatest heartbreak I've ever felt as a bengals fan. We were underdogs against the Rams with a terrible line, and we still put up a damn good fight; don't think I'd call that a choke
Superbowl 48 for the Broncos. One of, if not the best, offensive seasons in NFL history, and they got their asses handed to them by the Legion of Boom, 43-8.
Being at that chiefs Texans game was incredible. It was freezing cold and people were leaving after the first quarter thinking we didn't have a chance with how blatantly we were throwing the game. My dad and I stayed since we don't usually get to do stuff like that but my boss gave us free tickets and we watched the most incredible comeback we've ever seen. Honestly such a cool experience.
what makes the chiefs’ loss to the bengals so much more devastating is that not only did mahomes have one of the greatest first halves of football in recent memory just to be juxtaposed against that terrible second half, but the chiefs played and won the greatest game of football of all time against the bills in the divisional round just before. If the chiefs avoid such an epic implosion, then that postseason run is remembered as a legendary stretch in professional football’s history.
14:12 "arguably no team was hurt more from the patriots dynasty than the steelers" this is so true...the steelers could never beat new england in the playoffs, even their 2 SB runs didn't have to go through brady, thing ravens fans particularly mocked...specially after 2012
For the Detroit Lions I would have went with the 1995 Playoff Game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Started the game as 3 point favorites but somehow in the middle of the 3rd were down 51-3(!) to the Eagles backup QB (and former Lion) Rodney Peete.
That was the beginning of the end of Wayne Fontes and the brief era of decent Lions football. They went 36-44 over the next five seasons and then Millen showed up ☢️
The 2015 Wild Card game for the Bengals was the most infuriating moment in my Bengals fandom. Broke my phone throwing it at a wall at work that night. I'll give that the nod over this year's Super Bowl loss.
I believe the Eagles vs Tampa in 2002 should be on the list. The Eagles beat them in the playoffs the previous 2 years, plus Tampa hadn't won a road playoff game or a game in the cold before that.
Bengals biggest choke should be the 2015 playoffs when they blew the lead to the Steelers when all they had to do is run the ball out, but Hill fumbled and Burfict tried to kill Antonio Brown.
The Ravens 2011 conference loss by the Ravens was waaay worse. The Titans were underrated at that point in time and the Ravens offense was still too one dimensional to make a deep playoff run without a great defense. It's only a choke if you think records are an absolute truth.
Honestly, I gotta add my Raven's AFC championship performance to this as well. Another year of high regular season hype followed by a Lamar Jackson letdown lol.
As a Colts fan I'd have to go with the 2005 Divisional Round. The 2005 Colts steamrolled the NFL starting 13-0 until Tony Dungy's son tragically committed suicide. The Colts limped into the Playoffs but were still the 1 seed playing 6-seeded Pittsburgh at home. Up 21-18, Jerome Bettis was about to score the dagger TD when all of a sudden he fumbles and the ball is recovered by Nick Harper of the Colts. Legendary Woman Respecter Ben Roethlisberger miraculously grabs Harper's shoelace to trip him up. The Colts wind up attempting a game-tying field goal when Liquored Kicker Mike Vanderjagt shanks the attempt
I definitely disagree with the Chiefs, Bengals, Giants and Jaguars. Chiefs: 2013 wildcard vs Colts Bengals: 2015 wildcard vs Steelers Giants: 2002 wildcard vs 49ers Jaguar: 2017 AFC championship vs Pats
Good list but I'd say the Chiefs biggest choke was the blown lead against the Colts in the playoffs. And the Eagles biggest choke was getting blown out by a wildcard Raider team in the Super Bowl.
I've been a Rams fan since the mid-80's. Undoubtedly, their biggest choke job occured on MNF, Dec. 11, 1989, against the 49ers. I should know cause I was there. LA was up 27-10 in the 4th qtr, threatening to seize control of the division. After John Taylor's 2nd 90+ yard TD of the game and a Rams fumble, SF came back and won the game, basically winning the division that night. To this day, I still consider that loss the worst in Rams history.
Before this one even starts I think I got a good idea of which game you picked for my chiefs probably the the Andrew luck comeback on my Alex Smith led team
Mike McCarthy blew that game against Seattle. Kicking FGs in their own territory in 4th and short when you have Aaron Rodgers. Should have been a blowout.
when i was a kid, my life revolved around football. knew all the teams and all the best players. i haven't watch a game in over 20 years, all games have become about the money. now they fix games to make more money. baseball, basketball. even fighting sports like the UFC. WWE UFC, same thing really.
