Bondi Rescue follows the work of the elite professional Lifeguards who patrol Australia’s busiest beach. This is Australia’s real life Baywatch! Taking the viewers on their journey through mass rescues, drownings, resuscitations, shark sightings, and all number of the weird and wonderful experiences Bondi Beach dishes up.
In #BondiRescue the audience sees the action through the eyes of real characters and #lifeguards like Hoppo, Deano, Reidy, Jesse, Maxi, Whippet and Harries, as they catch thieves, perform CPR, make drug busts, break up fights, and even handle a navy bomb that washes ashore one afternoon. 800m in 13 mins is actually quite fast, that's not an easy target at all. That's 32 lengths of the pool, and you'd have to do each length between 20 and 23 seconds. To be off by 9 seconds would be heartbreaking.

It surprising to me... I'm 42, a little bit over 1 year ago, I've never done 25meter swim, and I couldn't do 25meter non stop. And now, I can do 400m in 8m56sec. And that is with me stopping because I haven't practice flipping at the wall yet. I'm overweight a little bit, I, never really did sport, rarely go to the gym, and my work is sitting in front of my computer all day and night. When I see things like this, I realized how much potential I wasted by not doing more sport when younger and take better care of my body. But I try (and fail often), now ! I've actually started the local lifeguard course (for pool, nothing extreme like Bondi beach). There is 3 level of training, the first level is you need to do 12min for 400m, second level 11min for 400m, and the last level is 10min for 400m (so easier than Bondi requirements). I'm 2 class before finishing level 2 now, which will allow me to work as an assistant lifeguard ! I won't be working as a lifeguard except voluntary work at the local pool, but I find these training really interesting, and great way to test one self.

I do not understand why so many people are so careless about ocean water safety. The coastline near me is a wild tangle of lava rock, thick forest, remote access points and beaches. Even along the inhabitated zones there are no lifeguards. You understand if you are on the beach let along go into the water you are going to have to get yourself out. Professional rescue help is at best 10-15 minutes away and will likely be by boat or dingy not from the shore. Along most of the coast it will be a much, much longer wait to get help. And that assumes the rescue crew can get close enough with all the underwater and semi underwater rock formation. Sadly people die every year because they underestimate the danger. Never turn your back fully to the water for long and respect the ocean because it is a dangerous place. Stop before you hit your physical limits because it is unforgiving of mistakes.

@@BondiRescue Oregon coast. I spent much of my life going there every few months. I love it and I feel wonderfully alive there and to stay alive you find the rhythm of nature and follow it. Edit: I forgot to mention almost no reliable cell service. Depending on location a rescue might use a helicopter but the wind and fog can quickly make that type of rescue impossible.

When the product is swimming... You cant discourage the product. So lifesaving as best you can is the best we can do... When i went to Florida, i was tempted by my outodoor hotel unguarded pool everytime I walked by. Until i spotted the 6' gator in the bottom. I will never swim outdoors in Florida again. (I did as a kid. My Dad and older brother spotted some barracuda. They went over to them. I got out of the water. I was 9.)

that was my first impression, she didnt bring in many people but when you think about it what she did is very important, because there were so many swimmers asking for help, what if someone was going under and goes unnoticed? if someone had drown there, then we would be saying that they didnt pay enough attention wouldnt we

Some times that beach looks a little chaotic. If it was up t me, I'd divide the beach by quadrants or lanes. Each section would be manned by a lifeguard. Then, I would issue numbers or letter for people who want to go in the water with an hour to two hour limit per group so that everyone has a chance to get in the water. You can tell people over PA system when they can go in the water and when they need to leave in order to allow the following group to enjoy the water. I think it would be more humane for the lifeguards to manage the crowds and it would be safer for beach goers. But, what do I know?
