I wonder if the old hitboxes were pill shaped because it was easier and quicker to do? With this being a free-to-play game, they were probably looking for ways to streamline the process of making characters. And putting a simple pill shaped hitbox on a character was easier than fitting several smaller hitboxes on the characters' bodies.
I believe it's because prior to the game's release, they just assumed the capsule process would be enough, as it's already a standard in the gaming industry
@@benjamingesinski9170 they’ve been releasing characters at a fairly quick pace, which makes me think that they’ve probably already got a backlist of characters that are finished, or nearly finished. Maybe it’ll take more time as they begin to create brand new characters but I think we’ll still see a consistent release timeline for a lil bit longer
As a Steven I absolutely bullied iron giants the only thing I ever found annoying about him was when he was seemingly completely out of bounds but some how still alive but I would never expect he'd get nerfed
Me too, I play Steven and Iron Giant is definitely his best match up. The only thing I agree with is the 2 up shield max. Used to be able to sit on either tops of the map and afk/heal
@@faded.177 Assassins used to take 15% more damage than every other character. That got changed to 5% last patch and now it's completely gone so the percentage gain should be same as every other class..
A lot of hitboxes in fighting games are actually just squares around the characters so I'm not surprised that the old hurtboxes looked like that. It's a welcome change, though.
That change wasn't intended as a nerf for Steven, it was to stop people from using up special in the corner off stage, standing on the shield, and then repeating that all match. People were just trolling, timing out matches.
Morty is my main and I’m glad he got buffed I’m not gonna lie when I was playing him the bomb would throw me off a lot because I forget that there’s the passive lol
This patch has been great! Bugs rightfully got nerfs, there were some great UI changes and gizmo is so dang cute! The only part I don’t like is iron giant got nerfed again…
@@isiahcollington8550 yeah! Lot of nice buffs and nerfs, but some were just unnecessary, like the Arya's nerf. Her up special was the only good thing to start combos and kill vertically at low damage lol
As a Giant main since he launched, it makes me really sad that he keeps getting nerf after nerf, and that also makes me worry for future big characters and how they'll likely suffer the same thing. Yes, Giant deserved some nerfs, but when he's only been nerfed in the patches since his release, and everyone else has gotten at least one buff, that's saying a lot.
@@DeeMulaah keep in mind, you can still succeed in higher levels of play with giant after 4 patches of straight nerfs. It should speak to how overtuned he was.
Okay I'm so disappointed that bugs bunny is actually getting Nerf!! And that's the third time In a row!! As a looney tunes and bugs bunny fan love them very much and I was part of my childhood. and he was the best character ever! If he get removed from the roster or getting another nerf, I will stop and quit playing multiversus and that's it!!!! Man I wish I had Nickelodeon all Star brawl or cartoon network punchtime explosion.
Why would he get removed? And he needed to be nerfed. Having fun with a character isn’t an argument for them remaining unreasonably strong. Yes please quit playing the game and go play those 2 other terrible games instead. Nobody wants you in this game’s community
Eh, he's easily punishable when he doesn't have his ball and his killpower isn't too amazing. Also his moves just don't really combo into eachother very nicely. He needed em tbh
I actually hate how they just keep nerfing Velma. First they make the down air into up special combo harder to land and now even if I do land it I know longer get to debuff with weaken? Then they nerf ice to beat you and ill take that, along with making Velma slower and lighter. Like honestly it does not feel good to have one of your favorite characters to play consistently nerfed over and over again. I understand that Velma is strong but its still annoying to know that every patch they're always coming for her in major ways.
Consider yourself lucky. Down air into up air just doesn’t work anymore with Tom and Jerry. T & J lost all of his bread and butter combos and dynamite and Jerry got nerfed. Tom and Jerry’s play style is night and day this patch. So much that I stopped playing him because he’s a campy zoner now and that is just not my play style.
@@Tristan02539 i feel you im not sure why they went after Tom so hard when he really isn't all that prevalent. I've also been noticing with Velma that it seems like her ice vial just doesn't work now. I'm not sure if its because I'm using ice to beat you and its counting the 1 projectile stack limit on that move as well or if the move is just bugged entirely but either way I'm hoping for some positive Velma changes next patch.
@@LuciusFox24 man it must be frustrating to see your character get nerfed patch after patch. I don’t personally think she needs the nerfs, people just don’t know how to play against Velma and just complain to the devs. This was the first patch that Tom and Jerry got nerfs but he got nerfed extremely hard. Hopefully we both get some good changes next patch. All I’m asking for Tom and Jerry is to revert his down air to how it used to be. All the other nerfs can stay.
I'm a Bugs main that loves to be aggressive. The only issue is that he's gonna become a character that's gonna have to rely on being aggressive. Which is okay for me because that's my playstyle, but he's a mage. I really do hope they keep him like this with soft buffs. That way you aren't getting spammed by rockets but still have to actually keep your distance from Bugs.
We do t wanna make a character unplayable. Just a character that is fair and have at least some counter play. The only time I loose against a bugs is if they really are just terrible at the game
I don't think the static cooldown on bolts is something to be encouraged. As a guy who has played games like MTG, I know synergy when I see it. There are two kinds of synergy, the synergy you enjoy and the synergy you don't. A lot of this is personal preference. My favourite MTG deck revolves around generating creatures, giving one an ability that prevents me from losing and then making that creature unkillable. Then there's a lot of synergy I dislike. People will make decks that revolve around taking away your opponent's ability to play any cards. Sometimes, synergy sucks, but even then, there is a beauty to it. I feel like that is to be respected. Perks are made for synergy. They enhance one specific slice of a character's abilities. People should be able to choose their own preferred perks to suit their playstyle. Then people find synergies like Giant and Velma working together. It's a clever synergy. Now, I could write a novel series about creative solutions to fixing the balance, as it was problematically strong... But PFG just decided to remove any concept of synergy from the game. They break the rules of game design by making exceptions to basic rules just because they can't find a better solution. At this point, why do we even have perks anymore? Now, I'm not gonna whine about my character loyalists' main being nerfed for the millionth time in a row as if at release he automatically won matches by pressing B once, because I still do work with him... but that doesn't excuse the poor game design philosophy. Saying "Here, have a selection of interesting options" and then going "Oh, but not that one... or that one... That one is... uhh... stupid. Here, let me take all that away from you. Have these basic-ass meta perks everyone is using instead" is just BS. Wouldn't care if they changed the cooldown to 10 seconds, it just doesn't sit right.
I strongly disagree that Tom and Jerry is still gonna be top 3 best character in the game. T & J took the biggest L this patch. He lost ALL of his bread and butter combos. Down air to upair doesn’t even work anymore. He is a campy zoner now and that is just not my play style so I had to drop him. I’m convinced his down air is bugged due to the amount of lag it has after using it. Change my mind but Tom and Jerry got the biggest nerf in multiversus history. Brought an S tier character all the way down to C tier maybe he’s even D tier now but I might just be exaggerating.
So an interesting thing to note is, most games use the capsule hitbox for their characters, because in the long run it doesn't matter if you hit their arm or above their shoulder. In the case of multiversus, player first games had never made a platform fighter before and just assumed it would be ok to use that
I have to be honest, the hitbox change is definitely a great change and I'm glad they did it, but part of me definitely suffers now because of it. Something about the old style definitely was easier for me, and I'm sure for a lot of other players too, to dish out a lot of damage and hit certain attacks more. Just means I need to actually train a bit more and put a bit more thought into playing. Great video though Nosy! Thanks for explaining it all in Fortnite terms for me!!
@llama_lover I actually think he’s solid, but I do think the character guide they released for him wasn’t great. Arrowing popcorn is not easy to set up or reliable. I’ve been doing much better with down special in air.
