I appreciate the effort you take into your videos but Alves never played for Hoffenheim, I’m guessing you meant Heerenveen as the photo overlaid was him in their kit 😃
Jonathan Soriano could have been a good shout, swear he scored about 40 goals one season then was never heard of again lol. Also Steffan Kiessling comes to mind
16-17 could have went to Federico Bernadeschi. He bursted out that year scoring 11 goals which got him transferred to my Juventus. He scored only 4 goals the next season and 2-1-0-1 the following 4 seasons before going to MLS

Day whatever of asking for an XI of players from Euro and World Cup winning teams. From a quick calculation I believe that's an 11 with 3 subs. Or do the same but Copa América instead of Euros, which would be an 11 with 2 subs (or manager...) (What I mean is, for example, there have been 14 unique winners of both the Euros and World Cup, draft an 11 with subs/manager from those 14 countries, only 1 from each). The beauty of this if you did the Copa América suggestion is you'd have to pick a player from the 1963 Bolivia squad... take the challenge Alfie
2018/19 I'd argue that Luka Jovic was even more of a one-season wonder than Piatek, given his performances at Eintracht Frankfurt that directly lead to him being bought for an insane amount by Real Madrid, where he pretty quickly disappeared into a black hole.
I remember being enthusiast for Michu's singing for Napoli, only for him to miss the key goal for our UCL qualifier match against Athletic Bilbao, and then do nothing during the rest of the season.
Day 4: A detailed look at the state of Crotone would be nice, going from Serie A in 20/21 with a 20 goal a season striker (Simy) to Serie C by 22/23. Two relegations in a row, something surely has to be wrong at that club.
@Stephen C they may not be the most relevant club but considering the type of videos that Alfie makes, it would make sense for him to make a "What On Earth Is Going On At..." style video on Crotone
@@Alex-xn2pj He won't, because he doesn't care. He had "wonderful" chances to create context of that sort with many Italian clubs which have played in Serie A and now they are either gone (Carpi, for example), only active at youth level (like Chievo Verona) or reformed as phoenix clubs (Palermo, Catania, Cesena, Bari, Foggia, Livorno, Ancona, among many others). But any time he's been suggested to make content of that sort with (former) Serie A sides in decline, Alfie just (deliberately) omits them.
@@WERTYUIO821 Really. It was a story to be seen because of our mentality not being ready for clubs who go down two levels in two seasons even though it's technically possible. And Crotone, with Junior Messias (now at AC Milan) were quite entertaining for their record. Messias seems to have adapted decently well. But I think it's also easier to recognize many, many more players than you think are genuine journeymen. It also makes you appreciate the few who can keep up the numbers at such high levels across systems, roles, clubs and cultures.
@Stephen C Crotone is an Italian club with Greek origins. Currently playing in Seria C/C, recently being in Seria A. Founded in 1910, they went through the persecutions that Mussolini did to anything associated with Greece in early 1930s(how much he hated Greece, how poetic that Greece made him be written in history as an idiot world wide 10 years later). In ancient times their city, Kroton, was quite successful in Olympics. Their nickname is "The Pythagoreans" and it is a nice underdog story to follow and hope for the best. There are not many clubs from south Italy in Seria A, only Napoli being a regular so a hopeful Croton was nice to have. Basically the most unique out of the clubs all around based on everything. I recently won the Champions League with them in FM so I may have some bias.
Sturridge shouldn't have been anywhere near this list! He was excellent for Bolton in 2011, scoring nearly a goal a game, was a great squad player at Chelsea (good enough to make several England appearances and score a great backheel against Man United), and then scored 11 in 16 for Liverpool the season before his "one season wonder" season - including a hattrick against Fulham at Craven Cottage. Even after his best season, he was a key man in Liverpool's Europa League run under Klopp and even scored a fantastic goal in the final. He managed a quietly excellent 13 goals in 25 apps in 15-16 as well. He obviously had a terrific year in 13-14 but that's because he was clearly a terrific player.
@@joaquin17171717 Aritz Aduriz's 15-16 season shows even a quite prolific goal scorer could have a one season wonder type aberration if certain things happen right (Aduriz had a career peak in production in both goals and assists per game at the same time Athletic Bilbao had solid cup and Europe runs resulting in 36 goals and 10 assists in a minute heavy 55 games). The issue is Sturridge actually had an injury shortened season with a goal contribution a game before the 22 goal, 9 assist in 29 game season.
Literally one of the worst takes this channel has ever had, I have always said if it wasn't for the injuries he would have been England's best striker. His numbers were always decent even after the 13/14 season it was only the injuries keeping him out for long periods of time until Klopp had already found his system.
He only scored 16 goals in all competitions for Malaga, 14 in La Liga, which isn't bad at all, but it's not 20+. And while it was a fairly good season for him, I don't remember him getting too much attention around Europe as a "future star". Keita Balde (who got the spot for that 16-17 season) was far more widely viewed as a serious talent. He also scored 16 goals, but those were all in Serie A, and he was playing as a Winger, not a central striker. I remember there were many teams looking to sign him, and there were even rumors about interest from Spain to call him up, as he was born in Spain (in fact, in one Fifa game edition he had spanish nationality). Sandro could had been a good shout if his "wonder season" had come maybe one year before, but I think it's fair to give the 16-17 spot to Balde.
@@TheNormalJuan Oh my mistake. I thought he scored more. Athletico Madrid wanted him but he chose Everton cos they had new money and would pay massive wages
Grafite was absolutely crazy that season. Didn't just score goals but did it in style. Crazy how he dropped off so soon because it didn't seem like a season where he got lucky like some other players
Cryptocurrency and Nft will outsmart the banking system in the nearest future serving as a global fiat. Already making 85% from my current investment with Mrs Amelia James
I can confirm that everyone in Poland was obsessed with Piątek when he sign for Milan and everyone was calling him the next Lewandowski. People still knows him but he's irrelevant nowadays
Calling Grafite a "one season wonder" is one of the major INSANITYS Alfie has ever proposed. And OBVIOUSLY Dzeko had better years after 2009 when compared to Grafite, Grafite was already THIRTY at 2009, at his peak, and Dzeko was barely 23/24.
Oh man Guiza, I would like to provide some context for his misfortunate saga as a Fenerbahçe fan. He signed for Fener in the summer of 2008 with a club record transfer fee (still to this day) as the top scorer of La Liga in the previous season. We've also brought in Euro 2008 winning coach Luis Aragones and in the previous campaign Fenerbahçe almost made it to the semi finals of UCL putting a really good display against Chelsea so the expectations from Guiza and the team were sky high. However the things didn't go quite well in 08/09 season and we finished the league in 4th place while being knocked out of the group stage in UCL and with the club record fee weighing on his shoulders Guiza also failed to meet the expectations. Well , that should not have been a problem, after all Fenerbahçe is kind of known for its underwhelming strikers and it's kind of a banter in Turkey but the criticism this guy received was nothing like I'd seen before and I doubt I will ever see anything like that again. He became a nationwide laughing stock, it's like every sports pundit on any type of media was making fun of him, even the most popular TV shows at that time was making Guiza jokes and kids would call each other Guiza if they missed a sitter during a football match. I remember around that time he broke up with his wife and was paying alimony and his personal life also started to have a huge coverage on Spanish and Turkish media which only damaged his self-esteem even more. So the topscorer of La Liga, the man who helped Spain win the Euros and challenged the likes of David Villa and Fernando Torres became a shadow of his former self, constantly missing easy opportunities and dramatically hugging the woodwork (as shown in the pic in the video) while looking like he is at the verge of crying. That being said, the guy had class. He was silky with the ball and had good movement and he always showed up in the big matches. He showed glimpses of his skills from time to time, oddly he would always score in Beşiktaş derby. In the 09/10 campaign he managed to score against Trabzonspor as well but the match ended as a draw and we bottled the championship on last day... However his most iconic moment during his time was Fener came in 2010/2011 season and after that moment, a lot of Fener fans well at least me started to see Guiza differently. He only made one appearance that season coming off the bench against Bucaspor away and boy did he make it count... Fenerbahce came back from a 3-1 deficit and Guiza scored the goal that put us up front 3-4, it was one of the craziest moment of my life and one of our fans fell off from the bleachers after Guiza scored (he's ok). We won the match 3-5 and it was one of the most pivotal matches of Fenerbahçe's most iconic title win when interviewed after the match Dani Guiza couldn't hold his tears back and as a result of non-stop media bashing and pressure he delivered an emotional speech and cried during the interview. And in that moment, he redeemed himself in my eyes. So this was the story of Guiza, it's a shame he never reached up to the heights he could have but I still believe if it weren't for that club record transfer fee he would've left a better impression on Turkish football fans. His performance was not utterly terrible, certainly better than any of our strikers' we had in last 10 years! Thank you Guiza for the memories.
2013-14 My respects for Paloschi, but I think Josip Drmic is an even more notorious one-season wonder case. During those months, Drmic scored an impressive 17 Bundesliga goals for Nürnberg, almost a half of the 37 goals Nürnberg scored that season as they were relegated as second from bottom. Drmic was then transferred to Leverkusen, where his six goals in a single season didn't convince the club to keep him for longer, eventually selling Drmic to Borussia Mönchengladbach. Things got even worse for Drmic at Gladbach, where a mix of bad attitude and a string of injuries, an unimpressive loan spell at Hamburger included, all of them affected his form over the years. After being released by Gladbach, Drmic joined Norwich City, where his lack of fitness and enthusiasm were still evident, and he only scored 1 goal in 2019-20, as Norwich were relegated from the Premier League as dead last. Drmic only managed to find a good run of form in a 18-month loan period at Rijeka. In June 2022, he was allowed to leave Norwich City in order to join Dinamo Zagreb on a free transfer.
It doesnt feel right that Hakan Yakin is there. He was still very good when he returned to Switzerland with Young Boys and in the 07/08 season he scored 24 goals and made 15 assists in 32 league games.
You talked about Dani Guiza being the greatest one season wonder, and didn't even mention that the tail end of that was winning Euro 2008 with Spain contributing with 3 goals.
@@petesmart1983 scotlands had three european finalists in the last 18 years the most of any country outside the top five or six countries so its no that bad
Didn't Collins John also play in that Fulham side with John Collins? That must be a first if they did play, and are there any other examples of players with first and surnames the same but swapped?
If you, for whatever reason, decide to make an updated version of this. I would replace Simy with Patrick Bamford for the 2020-21 season because of how God awful he was back then and is now.
I will never ever not laugh when a foreigner says "Grafite". One of many brazilian players that made it in Europe with a nickname making fun of his skin color and nobody noticed lol.
I was hoping you could make a video about South African football and why South Africa hasn't progressed as a national team to reach the levels of West African Nations despite having the best league in Africa and having considerably good amount of funding
How did Berahino not make this list? 18 goals in his breakout season, Spurs wanted to pay £20m for him, he made the England squad, and then since then I don't think he's scored 18 goals in the rest of his career. Last season he was let go from Sheffield Wednesday for not being good enough.
It was an incredible run of goalscoring performance by Cisse. That period of football alongside Cheick Tiote, Gutierrez, Demba Ba etc. so good to watch
Cisse was good at Freiburg in the previous 1.5 years so he had at least two great seasons. A real half season wonder was Ebi Smolarek. 2005/2006 first half. Scored 11 goals, was leading the table as a top scorer... and scored two more goals in the next half season.
Day 56: Considering that the last player who played in the miracle of Bern died about 7 months ago, I would really like to see a video about the whole story between Germany and Hungary, especially because it meant so much to at least the German population
man some of these names really take me back... for years I wondered where the likes of guiza, nocerino, grafite or sisto ended up. I've got another name that was lost in the shuffle: patrick cutrone! whatever happened to him
One season wonders tend to be extremely Premier League centered because you British people are giving a lot of attention to them and worldwide British media has more tranction than German or Italian media, due to the language.
The inclusion of Michu on these lists is ridiculous and massively PL-centric. He was La Liga's top scoring midfielder the season before joining Swansea. He was a late bloomer and injuries cruelly cut short his career but he was no one season wonder.
If looking for non PL players, would have included Sulejmani in 2006 at Heerenveen. This caused Ajax to sign him for record fee and he never ever returned to the Heerenveen form since. Now playing at Young Boys in Zwitserland.
I loved transfer rumours when I was like 13 years old. Then I just got indifferent because I've learned they were just a pile of crap. Now I hate them and I ignore them completely. I almost fully switch off from football during summer because I don't want to hear or see the rumours.
@@LeeMonHussain95 not exactly like that. But a one season wonder should also be determined by a lack of any other succesful seasons. Janko had other good spells.
@@balanceinmidfield1843 I understand he had other good spells but they were in not very competitive leagues After Salzburg he didn’t do well at Porto which was the biggest club he played for Only did well at Basel and Sydney after leaving Salzburg
Martin Terrier a one season wonder? This is a lie. He was still just as good this season, he just got injured. He absolutely can't be considered as a one season wonder.
Not going to lie mate John lundstram isn’t a one season wonder anymore after his performances last year for rangers. He’s shown he’s a serious player bossing games against some top European teams.

Hey Alfie, will you release your documentaries on Turkey's Big Three (Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, Beşiktaş)? I remember you teased them back in your Süper Lig video.
Kinda surprised that the 15/16 one wasn't someone like Danny Drinkwater or Marc Albrighton. Like that entire leicester side was a one season wonder, but while Kante, Schmeichel, Mahrez and Vardy have all gone on to have top careers, it was technically Huths third title and Morgan also won the FA cup, Albrighton has kinda been just a steady backup since behind a succession of attempted Mahrez replacements on the right and Barnes on the left, and Drinkwaters career fell apart after moving to Chelsea.
He was a steady and fairly good midfielder for Leicester before 15-16. He actually received a nomination for Championship Player of the Year in 13-14, his most prolific season, as he played an important role for their promotion. And after the 15-16 season he was still decent for them. Chelsea didn't sign him inmediatly after Leicester's PL winning season, he played one more season at Leicester and did ok (maybe not brilliant, but he was ok). It's not like they bought him JUST for that amazing season. For at least 4 years he was a decent and at times very good midfielder. Not really "one season wonder" material.
As a Bulgarian, I can assure you that everything Alfie said is true. Bojinov would have most likely had the same career path without the injuries. He is still one of the most relevant footballers in Bulgaria today, however it’s not for what he does on the pitch. His attitude is sky-high and he is a bit of a meme character. It just seems like he cared more to be a showman than a footballer.
I was certain I would hear Danny Drinkwater get mentioned in this video for his 2015/16 season. I know he's been present in other seasons, but nothing like that season.
Alfie, I am STILL playing FM 2010, it's somehow still my favourite iteration of the game. In fact, I'm playing it right now! I love how it never actually crashes unless you do something despicable in the editor, unlike pretty much all of the more recent versions.
Best German players in the premier league of all time. (Day 352) I will not give up until the video is made or Alfie himself tells me to stop. Everyone else telling me that will be ignored. If you don't believe my number, just go back to the previous videos. I'm at the bottom most of the time, but I'm there.
It’s just not that interesting a video- isn’t an obscure nation and it’s not like it would even be a surprisingly good team either. Alfie’s never gonna tell you to stop- all comments help the channel- but maybe take the hint that he’s definitely read your comment many times by now and done nothing
I wouldn't call Michu a one season wonder. I think he was very promising thorughout his career in Spain and definitely delivered in last season before his move to England. It was his injury that destroyed his career.
Ailton for Werder Bremen in 03-04 would be my pick for that year. At 30, never been capped for Brazil single handedly won the league and cup. Never had anything remotely close to that season before or after.
Fun fact #12:Sebastián Abreu is the player who has been in the most clubs during his professional carrer(32).(Couldn’t think of something associated with the video).
Oh, man, Nocerino, you just remembered me a player I really liked in my childhood for some reason and was hidden very deep in my memory... I'm almost crying from nostalgia 😂😭
Michael Ricketts was a Sub in my Easbourne Borough FM10 squad who took me from league 2 to league 1 with a 120th minute play off goal. We won the Prem 6 years after that but that goal was the most important goal of the save as I invested a lot when we reached League 2 and without promotion we could have gone bankrupt. So yeah. Michael Ricketts is one player I absolutelly love to remember
Piątek's fall from grace was quite depressing to watch. He was such a promising prospect for Poland and he cannot even reproduce what Milik does. It's a real shame, I'm afraid the way he is he'll end up back in the Polish league.
Had really high hopes for Milik and Piatek. They had great talent and a pretty good all around package for the striker position much like Lewandowski. I can't get my head around why they haven't fulfilled their full potential yet. Maybe it has to something to do with their club choice. I don't know.
@@davinnicode Milik had problems with injuries and couldn't find himself in Napoli after that. He's settled well in Marsille like 16 goals in 36 apps. so not bad. Piątek on the other hand is just falling off a cliff and can't find his footing. He is a good footballer but can't produce.
I miss michu man, those days , i was 14 at that time, and i am a liverpool fan but michu, cause of him i watch almost 80% of swansea match that season, just rooting for him God bless u michu, u give much joy with my friends watching u play
As an Albion fan I definitely spied Jahanbaksh there in the honourable mentions - he was truly atrocious for us and cost a decent chunk of change to bring in too.
@@janwillemdewaard354 his ‘one season wonder’ was the season before we bought him (17/18) - 21 Goals - when his previous best in the Eredivisie was 10. Since then he utterly failed in the Prem and only scored 4 last season back in the Netherlands with Feyenoord - so absolutely 100% a one season wonder. Not saying he’s not a decent player or person - just that he has had one very good season above all others.
Day 28 - The Fall and Rise of FK Velež Mostar From a Club that has beaten Borussia Dortmund, Twente, Derby County and many others to a club that was forced from their own stadium, reduced to nothing during the Bosnian War, becoming a mediocre top-level team in the 00s to nearly being forced into folding in 2016 to its amazing comeback to European competitions in 2021 seeing the early exit of Greek giants AEK Athens in a sensational win in Athens!
Day 1: Best XI with only trophy-less players. (Similar idea to "7 best players without trophies" but that was outdated and a XI would definitely be more intriguing.)
Calling Sturridge a one season wonder shouldn't be controversial at all, in fact, numbers-wise he is one of the clearest one season bangers on the list
