Wow, this kind of service...back breaking, mind numbing, fatiguing slog bring tears to my eyes. Necessary work that was long delayed shows what is required to rectify. And after all that....the job is not finished and when you return for the stumps, there will be more residual cleanup and clearing. I sure hope the remuneration was worth the agony. Having followed you for years, I still appreciate your up-front honesty and integrity. In fact...its is your integrity that makes all your videos worth the watch.

I am a Private Stormwater Code Inspector for a municipality south of you. This is impressive amount of hand work. Great explanation of stormwater management. Just remember if it has a outfall structure it's a detention pond or basin. No structure its retention. I would.make you remove those stumps so glad to.hear you are coming back later or all that work would have been for.nothing. keep it up.

Brad, I can concur with your statement that most people will tolerate a lot more if you communicate with them. I know this is a different context, but when I used to deliver pizzas and it was going to be late, I ALWAYS called the customer when I left the store to do 3 things: 1. Apologize for it taking so long. 2. Let them know I was on the way. 3. Give them an estimate of when I would be there. And it worked like a charm 99 times out of 100. They just appreciated knowing their food was on its way and it gave them some idea of how much longer they would be waiting. Again, a different context, but your point is very valid.

Thanks so much! Unfortunately if I bring anyone out it needs to be all above board. They need to be a real employee, I can't mess around with under the table stuff. Not only am I not willing to do that in general, but if I DID and the contractor found out I would immediately lose this and any future revenue from them as they would likely cease to offer me contracts.

Brad, that was awesome!!! I don't care what anyone says, you did the right thing taking the breaks, and if they don't get it that's on them and they just need to move on and shut up!!! Heat in Florida aor anywhere for that fact can be a killer!!! We live in Jacksonville and a lot of the retention ponds at businesses look just like what you started with: no one wants to do the job they were hired and are being paid for!!!

I am watching in honor of your "graduation test" after seven years of experiences. So, to start, you are tackling something where the maintenance hasn't been done for 10 years. I like this. You are challenging yourself, you are learning a whole bunch more stuff, you are going to recover this area so it is able to do its designed job (which could be really important) and you can teach others about it meanwhile. (How are various seasons going to affect this work?) Absolutely impressed. Your video skills and explanations really worked well. Thank you and for learning something vital to the function of our nation.

Brad, hands down i think this is your best video to date. Not just the video of the work in progress but the explanation of both the process of what your were doing and the shortcomings you encountered along the way. We've all been there. Even to the point of the falling down into the muck. As bad as this was, the next phase is going to be a real nightmare. Thanks again for sharing the content and, don't feel badly about underestimating certain aspects of the job. I'm in a similar situation with a project that I've never done before

Incredible difference Brad. I have no interest whatsoever with business but find that it is something I can listen through because you have such an eloquent voice. I am getting older and listening to your voice is so relaxing and I enjoy the honesty of your mistakes. There is definitely a great deal to take into consideration running a specialist business. Definity a $20,000 job. First time I saw that I thought it would take at least a week. I'd assume to get it working properly all the dirt and muck will have to be removed and replaced also. I know you're just doing the clean up and its an auto parts store but having it turned in to a functional rain garden would be a huge benefit.

I'm 66 years old and have found that I can't work as hard and long as I used to. The heat makes me take more breaks than I think that I should need. But I made three adjustments that help. 1 - Do the most strenuous work in the early morning before the sun gets too bad. 2 - Use the shade of trees and buildings to work longer as you get out of the heat. 3 - Stagger strenuous activity with mundane work. Sort of like interval training when exercising. Combine these three and it should give you more productivity. Going in and out of A/C doesn't help as much as you think.

Incredibly daunting. For my lazy self, I would start with an array of grenades I could drop from your drone. Then find the biggest, long-reach excavator I could find (with grappling bucket), and then tear out what's left. Then one more round of "cleansing dynamite" to finish clearing, followed by a handheld leaf blower. Shake the dirt off your hands, and then tip your cap for the challenge. PS: Awesome video!

That was one hell of a job!! My body hurts just WATCHING this video, I can't imagine how hard it was on you! Add in that I can't handle heat and humidity, I wouldn't have lasted five minutes, let alone hours a day for 8 days! This clean up is almost on par with Blade Mate's astonishing clean ups!

You definitely knows how to run a business! Great that you are so aware of how much you shall charge for your job. Awesome that you keep your customers updated and very clever that you listen so carefully to your body and take the breaks that you need. Even when you get a meltdown you know how to handle it the right way. I also understand why you don't want to hire anyone. All the extra costs and administration you get from hiring one ekstra person isn't worth it. A small advice: Why don't you leave from your home way earlier in the morning so you can begin to work at dawn? That will give you a few extra hours a day and it's cooler in the morning.

Hear me out a rental on a dump trailer factor the cost into the job leave dump trailer locked up on the job site fill dump trailer up over multiple days. Dump at the end of the job. Just my thoughts

Wow. WOW. Outstanding job! Does all the soil need to come out of there too, eventually? Is it supposed to be like a pool, with the concrete walls? I've never seen any like that where I live (Buffalo, NY), so I'm curious. Ours all just look like, well, ponds. It seems like the designer tries to make them look more aesthetic, while still being functional. But most of the detention/retention ponds (and thanks for that clarification, btw) are part of office park builds and new(ish) builds, so everything is getting done at the same time. There's no putting in a pond after-the-fact or trying to squeeze one in, which is what that one looks like.

I appreciate you watching! I am not, because to be honest there weren't that many new mowers. The little grandstand I made a short on is new, but I wouldn't have much to add in a full video. Much of the battery equipment cuts worse than the gas counterparts so I don't want to cover any of them since they can't do the main thing you buy them for (cut grass cleanly), and the big gas stuff they had was launched at last year's event and are just now becoming available (so they aren't really NEW, they are just finally in production). They do have a ton of homeowner units that are truly new but compared to their commercial stuff felt so flimsy it was laughable (and again, made me not want to cover them). All that not as an excuse why there won't be videos on it, just an explanation why

So not being familiar with this (hence I watch your channel) is the excavator supposed to clean up everything that is in that pit so it's supposed to be like an empty pool when it's try and then fill with water depending on the season? So all the remaining soil and muck really needs to be maintained and regularly cleaned, right? This has been neglected way too long with the size of those trees that were popping up. Great job getting this all cut down!

I hate people that tell you how you could have done jobs better but wouldn't a small chipper/shredder that you could lift over the fence made the waste much easier to handle/haul off? I realize it would have added some cost for purchase/rental but it seems the saved labor on dragging waste to the trailer and reduced trips to the landfill woulda more than made up for it.

Appreciate the feedback! Any chipper that would have handled this brush probably wouldn't have been something I could lift. Once I chipped everything at the bottom, I still would have had to lift it out. Not sure there would have been any appreciable efficiency all things considered. The weight would have been the same, it just would have been in a different shape.

Just curious on a potential employee... Not sure how it is in Florida, but in Oklahoma you can hire them 1099 and not have to carry workers comp per my understanding. Didn't know if that was an option for you or not??

Good question! 1099 is a subcontractor. I couldn't tell them when to work, or how to do the work. Just what needs to be done. I couldn't provide tools. If I am picking them up, they are riding with me, I am directing their work, etc. then they would be an employee and paying them via 1099 is illegal.

Never really stunk, surprisingly. The worst was a sickly sweet decaying smell from the brush as I was processing it, especially the stuff that was in the water for a while.

You are absolutely correct to stop and take a break when you "hit that wall" as you're working. For me, the most important reason is that when I'm exhausted and/or overheated, accidents are much more likely to occur. I've been working in my own yard trying to cut back two large forsythia bushes (each 10'-15' in diameter) that were intertwined, each of which had a ton of "baby forsythias" around the circumference (where ever the branches touch the ground, they root and form new plants), and the whole area was overgrown with English ivy and Virginia creeper vines. At one point I "hit that wall" and thought to myself "you should go inside and rest/rehydrate before you hurt yourself." Unfortunately, there were only 2 more branches to cut on the first plant, and I thought: "well, let me just finish this one plant and then I'll go inside!" I cut the first one, spun around and threw it on the pile. I cut the second one, spun around, got snagged in some of the vines, and went down. The vines cut across my ankle area and within 30 minutes the whole area was black-and-blue and swollen to double its normal size! **sigh** Yessir, you're doing the right thing by listening to your body and taking as many breaks as you need to be on your top game!
