I have a few questions about the Thule seat because i want to purchase one for my son. 1. Did you have problems with the footrests hitting the frame when turning the handlebar? 2. Did you have to make any modifications to make it fit to the bike? 3. Do you have enough space to paddle without hitting the seat with your knees or chest etc? 4. What size bike do you ride?
1. It does limit how far you can turn your bars. I haven’t experienced any issue with this on the trails riding mostly in DuPont State forest. 2. No modifications. There is a clamp bracket that bolts on around the spacers under your stem. I would check seat specs before purchase to make sure you have enough stack height between your headset and stem for the bracket to fit. 3. On my Rocky Mountain instinct and Kona honzo I have enough room to comfortably ride. Every once in a while I notice my knee hitting the seat but with the geo of my bikes it works out and I typically have ample space. 4. I’m an XL frame. If possible check FB marketplace for one of the seats and take your bike. It takes literally 30-60sec to install the bracket and pop the seat on and then test ride to see if you can comfortably ride your bike with the seat on. Or order new and have the possibility of return if it doesn’t work.
It is mounted on a Carbon Rocky Mountain Instinct. It does not touch the frame at all. The attachment point is a bracket included that fits around the spacers under your stem. I would check seat specs to make sure you have enough stack height between your headset and stem before purchasing. But on my frame there is absolutely no contact. With the geometry on my bike the foot stirrups do sit and make a little contact sometimes on the crown of my fork. But nothing a little tape wouldn’t protect it from.
As I re think that there maybe a little contact on the frame if making a tight turn, because the seat does limit how far you can turn your bars. I haven’t experienced any issues in the trails, and I don’t have any paint rub or scratches on my frame from it.
