Good review! For an e-ink tablet that can function as a laptop replacement, I think the Boox Tab Ultra (either color or B&W version) is a much better choice. At $600 for the color version, it's still expensive, but a bit cheaper. You can also probably find the discontinued B&W version for a lot cheaper. The big selling point for me though is the keyboard case which connects via contact pins, so no messing around with bluetooth. In fact, there's even a Tab Ultra C Pro now (Device names are not this company's strong suit) which includes a trackpad in the keyboard case. Super cool, although I haven't tried that one. and that one is $650 without the keyboard/trackpad or $740 if you get it bundled together.
I always feel so torn about color e-ink devices. Don't get me wrong, adding color to e-ink is a huge quality of life improvement and whether it's for working or as a companion device, I understand that the color comes in handy. But one of the main reasons that I like e-ink is for the crispness of the images and text, without the LED screen - and color e-ink devices, at 150ppi, just don't have that same crispness. I've yet to see a color e-ink device that made me go "wow!" Thanks for reviewing this (and for mentioning the Thinkpad - I was wondering if/when you would be doing a review for that!).
@@JoseBriones That makes total sense! It's a bit of a shame as I know folks in the e-ink community would love to have a high quality e-ink laptop and the poor execution on the Thinkpad may put that idea to rest.
The Inky Impression 7-color displays have been pretty impressive to look at from the demos I've seen, but they're pretty small and I don't know of any finished products that are using them, probably because the big tradeoff is they can take about a full minute to update.
@@tparadox88 Neat, I hadn't seen those displays before. It's the best looking color e-ink display I've seen, that's for sure, but that's certainly a big tradeoff on the refresh time.
"Oh no, I would never buy this professional camera, my phone can already take pictures and does a million of other stuff too, like videogames and social media" Same logic: you're comparing two totally different items 😂 Eink devices are not to be compared with tablets or ipads.
Does a iPad have a week battery life? Is an iPad muted and inconspicuous in classroom environment? Does an iPad give you focus or is it a ADHD time suck?
Jose, what are you doing man? This is not a dumb phone. This device would simplify my life's distractions if I were to buy it at which point I wouldn't be able to afford life's little distractions anyway. Stay focused man.
Sometimes I review adjacent tech haha. Especially during the slow season of dumbphones releases. Don’t worry, as soon as the full releases start this summer, it’ll be dumbphones pretty much 24/7
