Oh yeah! You know I've got all the ingredients! Even down to the green apple. lol Right now, I've got five meat chickens in the pressure canner with curry spices. I wonder what it's all going to smell like together... Indian-Russian all up in here!
Ohhhh that cabbage is a beauty! I had to buy mine as my rabbits got in the garden and ate mine all up. That's okay! I'm eating the rabbits. Circle of life! HA.
AND I'VE GOT HOMEMADE KRAUT TOO! Well, mine's called Curtido cause I add onions, carrots, and oregano, but same difference! I do have "traditional" flavored kraut too, though it's not quite ready!
In my Polish version, I also add dried mushrooms, prunes, and red wine (plus caraway, paprika, thyme, allspice, etc), but this version looks excellent too! I will have to try this. Cabbagge, kraut, smoked meats... what's not to love?

Hi Luli! I remember my momma making a very similar dish with smoked sausages, onions, potatoes and sauerkraut at the end of the dish, but seasoned with dill and caraway seeds. Oh my goodness, I haven’t had that delicious dish in years and to be honest I haven’t made it since my kids where home. Such a delicious meal that feeds many and so filling. Your dish looked so good. I guess people use what they have or grow. Thank you for reminding me of this delicious dish and the cherished memories of my grandmother’s gardening time with her. Have a blessed day!!

Its so good with mushrooms and prunes! I've learned to alter my recipes based on the ingredients we have on hand. We grew up in the soviet regime. Мама had to adapt to the ingredients available in the pantry, I follow her methods. Next time I will make with mushrooms and prunes!
It cooked on low heat for about 2 hours. If I was making it in the old fashioned wood stove, it would take 3-4 hours, even longer. Women used to place all ingredients in a clay vessel and place in the wood oven for hours
Taste best with toasted light rye bread and a shot of vodka, especially the one made mostly from sourcraut that is why is called hunters meal, enjoy! 👍

The pretty little sow will be on my farm for many happy years to come, making lots more happy little piggies, but the two boys are going in the freezer and smoker for ham, bacon and all the yummy things. I eat meat, but I raise it and love it and make sure it has the best life it possibly can before I do! Pigs are so much fun, though! I have Berkshires. What kind do you have?
