There's a new OctoPrint plugin that can utilize these types of Wi-Fi devices for faster upload to SD, at least for MKS ones. I suspect they are similar.

Its so funny how the chips that are on the FPV flight controllers are the same, we have F4 boards, older now, F7 boards modern and fast, and H7 bleeding edge, so neat !

Great tutorial, simple and straight to the point! Would it work for mks nano v3 since it uses the same chip and WiFi module?

Thanks! I did some looking, it looks like the Nano v3 only supports Marlin, so you would only be able to connect to the serial with the Wifi connection.

So an esp-12 module is about £1-£1.50 (about $1.2-$1.8 at the time of posting), btt are making one hell of a markup for a carrier board and some header pins! I mean I get the move from using an esp-01 for spi over serial but that's still a lot for some header pins and a carrier :p

I would say yes, but only on RRF firmware.

Great video man! Im still runnin the good ol SKR 1.4 Turbos, is it worth upgrading the board but keeping the TMC2209s that I got already?

Hey Paul, depending on what you want to do, I wouldn't upgrade. You can reuse the drivers if you want, but if you are sticking with Marlin, 1.4 is still a fine board.

Thanks! I think you can stream gcode over USB to RRF, but I've never had much experience with it.

Hi Chris , Any thoughts on wifi ESP32 settings for SKR3EZ ? Manual show firmware can be flash with microsd from the SKR3EZ . I have the ESP32U but I am not able to connect on UI page , not able to update the firmware on Marlin 2 motherboard firmware. Thank you

Yes, the ESP32 is really only for REPRAP wifi access. It doesn't seem to allow you to connect to the board with Marlin. About the only thing you could do it would be to flash something like esd3d to it, but BTT doesn't make that easy. I still can't figure out how to do it.

This works the first time the second time after canbailising a printer and redoing it i made the mistake of formatting the old firmware and now i cant bastard yoke to flash

Chris, this is by far the best explanation of setting up a SKR board with RepRap and a WIFI module that I have seen. Great job. However, I have a problem. I followed your instructions to the letter and everything worked perfectly until I got an IP address. The IP address given from the M552 command times out in my browser and throws an error. That IP address does not show up in my IP scanner nor in my network client list. There were no errors or warnings during the process you showed. How did I mess up?😕

Thank you! Hmmm, maybe it joined some sort of rouge wifi network? Use M587 to list the networks and M588 to forget one.

What are your thoughts on using PuTTY or MobaXterm to communicate with printers?

Both work in serial mode, I just think it's easier to use Pronterface or YAT.

Chris, thanks for the how-to. I've tried every possible way of getting the wifi module working and had given up until seeing your video pop up! Unfortunately, I still get an error with failure to connect to the module. I'm running reprap on multiple Fly CDY boards and never have an issue. Any ideas out there?

@@ChrisRiley I’ve got two different modules, the second is an ESP-07s and it seems to completely block the com port on the board, so no connection at all with that one. Maybe the board has an issue?

At this point that is correct. It's hard to use any of the other options on the BTT boards at this time.

@@ChrisRiley There's 2 alternative options if one prefers / wants to stick to marlin, the wifi module can run esp3D and make for a wireless monitoring device (but upload speeds sucks because it only uses UART). Or, one could get an espcam module, wire it to the wireless port and use esp3d on it, espcam modules have an sdcard port to which you can upload gcodes to at descent speeds, and then esp3d just reads/send gcode commands to (marlin) like any serial host (over usb, tft screens, octoprint, etc..) But RRF is better :p

I bought my WiFi module when I purchased my SKR 1.4. I never was able to get it working. I also have the TFT7.0 V3 which also has a WiFi connection, but I was also unable to set things up with that. Would your process here work with Marlin on a an SKR 1.4? And since I'm asking dumb questions, why RepRap over Marlin?

Marlin can only use wifi as a connection into serial. So wifi isn't very useful with Marlin. That's one of the biggest advantage to using REPRAP, it has a ready made interface to enable the wifi frontend.

The mini v2 doesn't support RRF or wifi.

Any chance you plan on doing a video for the eeprom upgrade for the SKR 1.4? There's not much online and what is, is outdated. I keep getting a mismatch error and have tried everything. Thanks

So how do you set this wifi module up if youre running something like Klipper? Not entirely clear on the firmware side of setting up boards .

On these boards, the wifi only supports REPRAP. For klipper all the wifi would have to be done on a different computer, like the raspberry pi.

@@ChrisRiley that's too bad....just got the skr 2 and wanted to take advantage of all the features but I'm also wanting to dive in to Klipper....been a Marlin fanboy for years but I was out of the scene for a while. Come back and there's this shiny new controller with some slick features and groovin dance moves. Oh well...I have a pi4. I'll be using it for Klipper anyway. Just be nice to have the board option there.

@@samuelp1227 I've used reprap before...like back before 32bit boards were even a thing. I started using Marlin (obviously also before this newfangled 32bit board craze took over and the subsequent VScode compiling) and I never looked back. Now I hear all these wild rumors about Klipper and its apparent balls of cast iron and the incredible 3d gymnastics it's capable of and I just HAVE to experience it....I mean, I've already got an accelerometer wired up to rock that input shaping mumbo jumbo I've been reading so much about. I have got some serious wood to see how this thing works.

I send a M115 command to my SKR 3 EZ using several different terminal emulators. They all are successfully connect to the board. I'm sure that the firmware loaded successfully as firmware.bin file changes to frimware.CUR on the SD card. I get a "Locked $" response to the command. What am I doing wrong?

That's strange, did you try another baud rate? Not sure what else would cause it.

Hey chris having some trouble it says my wifi module is timing out whike trying to connect to the wifi network what could this be?

It could be a lot of different things, but the wifi network name and password are usually the cause. Make sure they are correct, they are case sensitive.

@Chris Riley ill give it a go tonight i went through the whole process of sending commands after uploading the firmware probably 4 times and thought forsure it was correct, could it be just too much load on the network at the time i was trying to connect? I should also mention i couldnt get my skr 3 to respond to YAT so i attempted this through pronterface! Maybe i got YAT from a bad source? Thanks so much for the reply dude your videos rock! So helpfull!
